Kinda related to my last post but also, everyone sees Maya as this bad girl that is “wasting her potential” and everyone always wants her to be better, be more like Riley (because she of course is the best example), and I’m just sitting here like WHY
She is already so kind and so sweet and trying so fucking hard with the hand she was dealt. And then when she starts to grow as a person no one believes that could really be her and of course she is just imitating Riley and not really being herself because how could she ever actually be anything other than the bad girl.
God this girl deserves so much better
Guess who didn’t want to change her, but, just wanted good things for her.
Also Shawn, but he’s her Dad, so that’s a given.

Kinda related to my last post but also, everyone sees Maya as this bad girl that is “wasting her potential” and everyone always wants her to be better, be more like Riley (because she of course is the best example), and I’m just sitting here like WHY

Riley & Maya are kinda bad for each other
I hate this whole good influence / bad influence thing Riley and Maya got going on, which sucks for me because that’s basically the whole show.
It has just always felt like the two had this weird toxic view of each other. Maya idolizing Riley(’s life) and never disagreeing with her, never acknowledging the areas in which she might be lacking and also shielding her from the real world which prevents her growth. And then Riley only seeing Maya as this bad girl and not letting her grow out of that persona in season 3 with that terrible “you turned into me” arc.
It’s just really weird and such a missed opportunity for a show which tagline is “people change people” to have their two main characters prevent each other from actually growing up
Sometimes I’m glad I didn’t really date during middle/high school because boy does it look awkward

Riarkle Lucaya parallel
So I’ve been rewatching Girl Meets World and in S01e05 they play Romeo & Juliet and there is this whole thing about Farkle thinking he is the greatest actor ever and Riley not wanting to tell him the truth and then at the end of the episode Riley tells Farkle “ I'm sorry I could never hurt you”
Where have we heared that before? Oh yeah, ski lodge part 2 (S03e09) with Lucas telling Maya basically the exact same thing. (”You can't hurt me, can you?” “I can never hurt you.”)
What does this mean? I don’t really know tbh, but I just kinda liked it and wanted to share
