Merlin 4x12 The Sword in the Stone: Part 1
Made a little cover art to commemorate the completion of my fic!
Wee superhero
With Mxy getting bored by Kara’s attempts at fixing her relationship with Lena, he decides to mix things up a bit. Much to Kara’s dismay.
Now finally getting the long attempt she wished for, Kara navigates the world of her past self in the body of a small child where she somehow needs to convince her past self to talk with Lena, make people take her seriously and avoid disrupting the past. Well, more than she already did.
Read the complete fic here!

trying to explain why i like horror to people who don’t: ok so you know how it’s fun to be deeply disturbed and unsettled
the fic you write doesn’t have to be a masterpiece, it just has to be the story you want to explore for yourself and your own enjoyment

Wasn't directly tagged but 100% inspired by @waytooinvested's recent post on it.
1. Where is your blog title from?
Nowhere in particular. I originally joined Tumblr just so I could check out some creators I saw, as well as friends who had accounts and would always send me links from other platforms, so I created my own account.
Eventually, I started actually following other blogs and joining spaces and fandoms that I was interested in. So, once I started reblogging and posting in the various spaces I was a part of, I realised that this is where I want to be - a place where I can share my appreciation over media, fanworks, and share in thoughts and opinions in healthy discussion and discourse.
So, eventually the name just came to me - it was 'my kind of fandom'.
2. Latest movie? What did you think?
Latest 'new' movie was a while ago - I had meant to see devil wears prada 2 in cinemas, but never got around to it, so I think the last movie I watched was Michael.
At the moment though, I'm doing a small Kaiju marathon, so the actual last movie I watched was "Gamera: Guardian of the Universe", which was really fun.
3. What are you looking forward to right now?
Right now? Lunch😋
In general, I'm looking forward to the next book on my read list, the next movie on my watchlist, the next time I play with my dog, play video games with my friends, go for a coffee date with more friends, showing my therapist how I'm progressing, going to my first ever concert this saturday, working on my fanfics and novels that I might or might not share with the public or friends, and continuing to study japanese.
4. If you could do anything at all today, what would it be?
Finish reading the book I'm on, and eat fried chicken during.
5. Drink of choice?
Alcoholic? A Burnsider - ounce of cointreau, half an ounce of lemon juice, over ice, topped with ginger ale, orange peel for garnish, served in a classic champagne glass or a highball.
Non-alcoholic? Maccas Sprite, pepsi max, coke zero sugar zero caffeine, kirks orange (at this point any soft drink🤷)
6. Hair routine?
I have severe dandruff so I use medicated shampoo (which has no effect btw so it's useless but I like to trick myself into thinking it's working) which is exacerbated by the weather and change of seasons, which means it's flaring up right now smh.
So my routine is just wash it, lather it, wait for it to absorb, rinse out, and repeat once, then blow-dry and if I'm going out later, spray and style.
7. Favourite way to travel? Is there another way you want to try?
I do enjoy a nice walk. That way I can go at my own pace, and potentially catch public transport if I want, which means reading time👌👌
Alternatively I like driving through the country, so I don't mind a good drive. Especially if it's to a friend's house, or the shops - places that have good, guaranteed parking really.
8. Favourite month and why?
Probably June. It's in the winter which is my fav season (I yearn for the cold weather), and also it's the end of the financial year, so we have sales, and I get to start thinking about my tax returns to see if I can write anything off.
9. Favourite time of day and why?
Either 10am or 2pm. Nothing's going on during that time, so that usually means I can do whatever I want. Those are my designated "responsibility-free" times, where I have no obligations, tasks, or errands to run. I can just chill and do whatever, before life smacks me in the back of the head to get back to it.
10. Do you play or follow any sports?
I've recently started following the Lynx in the WNBA. I'm not too invested in it, and I'm not used to following sports (this is my first time) so I don't really know how to do it(?).
This is all because of the various basketball supercorp fics that have convinced me to get myself invested btw.
I tried to follow the overwatch league back in the day - couldn't commit to it, so I stopped.
11. What kind of music has been stuck in your head lately?
Recently I've been in a bit of a rock mood. Been listening to a bit of Lynyrd Skynyrd lately. This came from from one of my numerous re-reads of "Run at the Cup" by TheHomelyBadger (check them out on ao3 and tumblr) - there were quite a few songs in that story and I started making a playlist out of them, which ended up including songs like Simple Man, Free Bird, and Don't Ask Me No Questions.
I'll probably be on a different kind of music by next week. I'm attending a Final Fantasy concert this weekend, so I might switch over to video game music. Who knows.
12. Dishes or laundry?
Dishes. I feel like I can actually see what I'm doing with those.
Also it takes me less time to wash dishes by hand than it does clothes - and I don't have to worry about mixing colours and materials. It all goes in the soapy water wash.
Plus I feel like my dishwasher is easier to use than my washing machine.
13. Something you learned recently?
That ancient greek traditions haven't actually changed much from modern greek cultural behaviours.
I've been reading Emily Wilson's translation of The Odyssey, and in her introduction, she speaks about the cultural context and societal rules and obligations that people have towards one another (mainly in regards to hospitality). In my own greek family, I can see that these expectations and behaviours of hospitality are still present to this day.
14. What could you talk about if you give a TED talk on anything?
Probably how the english butchered the greek language when they were translating it. Just because it looks like a "b" does not mean it is a "b". It's not: alpha beta gamma delta, it's alpha vita ghammah thelta. And it's not a U, it's an F. It's not a D, it's a TH. It's not Odysseus, it's Othyseffs.
Sorry, when I get to speaking about my heritage, all the greek blood runs through me and goes straight to my head.
15. Piece of advice you find yourself giving a lot?
Start now. If 5 years pass, that's 5 years of experience that I now have. Otherwise, it would have been 5 years of the same thing.
16. Piece of advice you would give yourself 5 years ago?
Start now😂😂
And also stop caring about what people think of you. The whims and opinions of others that don't share your convictions, morals and beliefs should have no bearing over what you enjoy in life. You don't owe them anything.
17. Do you believe in any luck or superstition? Do you carry any lucky items or follow any rules?
Somewhat. I believe that there are greater powers in this universe, but that it's my responsibility to shape and direct my own life.
18. Are you musical? (Play any instruments? Sing?) Would you perform for an audience?
I like to sing in my own time - but I'm not any good haha.
I play the violin - also not very good
I can sight-read sheet music though.
19. Write, type or speak?
I take public speaking lessons, which involve speaking in public (obv), writing pieces, and reading text. Mostly dialogue and persuasive pieces though.
In private, I write fanfics and novels.
20. What do you wish someone would ask you?
Can we grab a coffee and chat about our hobbies and interests?
Honestly, that would make my entire life.
Ok that was fun. I always like sharing things about myself (maybe another topic to bring up with my therapist haha). Feel free to do one yourself for anyone who sees this.

Base used:
AO3 filtering for either of two (or more) tags
You might have noticed that when you include more than one item in your AO3 filters, the number of results drops drastically. When you include more than one item, you're telling the filter to find fics that have tag A as well as tag B, and the more items you include, the more things you're requiring a fic to have in order to show up in your results.
You're telling AO3 that you only want fics that have all of the things. You're not telling AO3 that you want fics that have any of the things.
This is because the filters use something called Boolean operators. The Boolean operators are: AND, OR, and NOT. You need to use caps for these terms in order for them to function as an operator and not just another word in a phrase.
AND (the one used by include filters) means you want both (or all) of the things
OR means you want any of them or any combination of them
NOT (the one used by exclude filters) means that you want none of them, either alone or in combination
So if Include = AND and Exclude = NOT, then how do you use OR? Use the Search Within Results box. It's near the bottom of the filter menu, right above where you can choose which language you want to read and below where you can choose word count range and completion status etc.
In this box, type the name of the first tag you're interested in, then the name of the second tag and put an OR in the middle. Keep adding OR in between them, and you can stack as many tags as you want - until you get to whatever the character limit is (character, in this case, meaning letter, number, or symbol).
If a tag is just one word, then your filter would look like this:
angst OR fluff
If a tag is more than one word, then your filter would look like this:
"no beta we die like men" OR "I wrote this instead of sleeping"
You need the quotation marks around multiple words to let the filter know that those words belong together, in that order
If you want to do an OR search for ships, it gets a bit more complicated because of the symbols used in ship tags. For ships, instead of using the name of the tag, it's better to use the tag ID number.
To find the tag ID, tap/click on the ship tag to go that tag's results page (I'm using Frodo/Sam in this example). On that results page, tap on the button labelled RSS feed. That will either open up a new page full of code or download a text file of code. Near the top of that code, you'll see something that looks like:
The tag ID number is the number that appears after /tags/
In this case, the tag ID number for Frodo/Sam is 13674. When I repeat the same process for Frodo & Sam, I get the tag ID number 716913. Then I just need to set up my OR statement and let it know that the tag number I'm providing is a relationship ID:
relationship_ids: 13674 OR relationship_ids:716913
Put that in the Search Within Results box, and I'll get fics with either one of those ships tagged, and I'll also get results with both ships tagged.
Oh! and if you don't know how to find the filters menu, just tap on any tag and then on the button labelled Filters. You won't see this menu on a search results page. However, you can use these same techniques in the search bar at the top of the page or in the Any Field box at the top of the Advanced search page.
Oh, I majored in this in varsity!
Instead of quotation marks you could also use brackets and instead of NOT you can you a dash. (Boolean Operators have alternative characters/symbols that can be used instead of typing the entire operator but this also depends on where you are typing them. If you type them on a site that doesn't recognize the character/symbol, you might not get the results for what you want.)
For example, if you're searching for Frodo & Sam OR Frodo/Sam but you don't even want a mention of Bilbo, you can write it like this:
(Frodo & Sam) OR (Frodo/Sam) -Bilbo
It will filter out every work that has Bilbo anywhere in the tags (and summary, title, series titles, and if the author's name contains it😅) while giving you the works that you want. It doesn't work for partial words however (I think you would have to use an asterisk (*) which is sometimes called a wildcard, but I haven't tried that yet, I'll update if I do), i.e. poly vs polyamory.
Note that when using the dash there mustn't be a space between it and what you want to filter out, or else you will get a page with zero results (I think it ends up filtering out every work with a space, and that's all works).
Dashes can also be used with brackets, for example: -(character death)
This will filter out Major Character Death, Minor Character Death, Temporary Character Death, Canon Character Death, and so on so forth.
I'm lazy to type to much while on my phone but if you need to know more I'm more than willing to help!
phm is decently popular in japan and i mostly see this when i check twitter and see accounts posting pictures of handmade rocky plushies that are so fucking round looking it brings a tear to my eye
