That conference or this conference?
True values entail suffering. Thatās the way we think. All in all, we tend to view melancholia as more true. We prefer music and art to contain a touch of melancholia. So melancholia in itself is a value. Unhappy and unrequited love is more romantic than happy love. For we donāt think thatās completely real, do we?ā¦Longing is true. It may be that thereās no truth at all to long for, but the longing itself is true. Just like pain is true. We feel it inside. Itās part of our reality.

Because of my age and when MTV came on the scene, I imprinted on Letās Dance-era New Romantic Bowie. These days I think Berlin Bowie is my favourite.
Soul Bowie and Berlin Bowie forever and ever.

I feel like Cassini! Whoosh, flying through the outer solar system!
Speaking of Cassini, that wonderful robotic planetary explorer recently captured this view of a 200 mph hexagonal hurricane on Saturnās pole, which may be hundreds of years old, each side of which is larger than the entire Earth:
As for why this massive hurricane is hexagonal? That remains somewhat of a mystery, although it is likely due to some strange standing wave fluid dynamics in Saturnās gaseous atmosphere.
More Cassini goodness can be found here.

Heisenburg and Schrodinger are in a car together, driving down a road. A police officer pulls them over and says, āDo you know how fast you were going?ā Heisenburg says, āNo, but I can tell you exactly where I was.ā The police officer decides that this is grounds for a search and finds a dead cat in the trunk. He walks up to the two and says, āDid you know thereās a dead cat in your trunk?ā Schrodinger says, āWell, I do now.ā

There are a number of good science reporters out there ⦠but this pretty much nails it. The problem with science journalism is that often, science journalists have nothing to do with it. Itās some beat reporter who hasnāt taken biology since 11th grade who has to drop off 800 words to the editor in three hours. So they re-write a press release and slap a flashy headline on it.
Or they post something from Science Daily, which is not a news site, but rather a press release posting site. If you need suggestions on where to get good science news, check out my links page.
Donāt miss PHD Comicsā take on the science news cycle, and my post about "how to read a science news article".
Love me tender.
