International Buffet Night. —- Pancakes from.. Khm.. BY Latvians. With potatoes. With love. I really think me and Elina got lucky that we met another latvian girl Anna who made the best pancakes possible. She did all the cooking. Elina did most of the eating. And me the cleaning. Go team! —- At the dinner everything was sooo good: Swiss pasta with applesouce, Polish and Ukranian dumplings, pita bread from Srilanka and spicy Afgan meatballs, German salad reminded of our own meat salad recipe, there was pizza, brownies, pancakes, rise-balls and noodles and our beloved cold-beet-root-soup that was originally from Lithuania (didn’t know that). I may have forgotten to mention tons of other food i tried, i know that the french brought a lot of stuff. The only food I missed out on was one of the American’s due to him being late and me being already too full to eat another bite of anything. Was a good night. Good night, indeed.

A little insight! This is a “children’s book” set in the time of the Industrial Revolution.

A young girl has to go out and sell matches and is not allowed to come back until she does because her father is an abusive drunk to her and her siblings. Their mother is dead. On this particular day, she can NOT sell her matches so she retreats to a corner but it’s winter so it is dreadfully cold. With ever match she lights, she dreams of Christmas related things such as a well decorated tree or a Christmas dinner. But she can’t have them because she is too poor. With her last match, she dreams of spending time with her grandmother on Christmas but it fades too soon. That being her last one, she goes to sleep but her grand mother retrieves her.

If you couldn’t recognize it in the last gif, the girl has frozen to death.
