I’ve never posted my Yvette and Beau stuff!!! Let’s change that
Yvette sat down at the coffee table of her favorite restaurant, letting out a sigh of relief. It had been months since she received the news that the Opera Epiclese was willing to employ her after sending her to music studies in Sumeru, and that her days with the Fatui were over for good. There was an odd melancholy feeling after leaving, as if she had forgotten to say goodbye to someone, but the feeling had blown away with the wind.
She looked out to the scenery of Sumeru, listening to the melodies of the street. She’d missed the times when music felt like a home to her. She felt as if she was in a dream that she never wanted to wake up from.
Yvette’s splendid daydreaming came to a screeching halt as she got up from the table, only to run straight into someone, sending her to the ground.
“Oh dear! I’m so sorry! Is there anything I can-” Yvette looked up to meet a face so familiar she could have sworn she knew it all her life. She felt a connection with the man before her that she’d felt before, but couldn’t pinpoint where.
“Watch where you’re going.” He said, picking his hat back up from the ground, which had fallen off his head when Yvette bumped into him.
Yvette couldn’t stop staring at him. She adjusted her glasses in an attempt to chase away the familiar feeling, to dismiss it as a mistake, but she couldn’t. She had met this man. She absolutely had.
“I’m sorry, sir…” Her voice was barely above a whisper.
The man looked down at her. Yvette could have sworn there was that same recognition in his eyes that she had for him, but he turned away before she could utter another word.
Yvette took a second to catch her breath, getting herself back up on her feet, only to notice she’d spilled coffee onto her dress when she’d run into him. She couldn’t care less about it. All her cares washed away in that moment, as if the hollow feeling she’d felt ever since she left the Fatui was whole again.
Yvette walked back to the Akademiya in a daze, her thoughts swirling with the man that she’d run into. She hummed a tune to herself. She wasn’t sure where she had heard it before, or what the words were, but they felt familiar, like a friend she’d always known.
Yvette busted down the door to her shared dorm room, shocking her roommate, Beau, with the force of the door.
“Do I need to teach you the concept of knocking again?” Beau lifted their head from their textbook to look at Yvette’s frantic expression.
Yvette grabbed Beau’s shoulders, looking them straight in the eyes.
“Why are you weirder than usual?” They asked, trying and failing to pull themselves away from their hyper roommate.
“I’ve witnessed it! Just like in the movies!” She shook their shoulders in such a violent manner that Beau had to yell at them.
“What the Hell’s your problem today? What are you talking about?!” They shoved their hand into Yvette’s face, pushing her away.
Yvette backed away, twirling and giggling to herself.
“You won’t believe it, Beau! Love at first sight! It was love at first sight!”
Beau looked at her like she just told them the sky was green.
“And what makes you think a soul on this earth would want to pursue you romantically?”
“I was a famous performer in the Opera Epiclese since before you were even conceived! At least one person would want me!”
Beau rolled their eyes. “Yeah, before I was conceived. Like two hundred years ago,” They lifted their textbook back up to their face. “Let me know after they’ve shot you down.”
Yvette dramatically draped herself over the couch in mock despair.
“But you don’t understand! He was absolutely gorgeous! He had these… indigo eyes that could stare into your soul and reveal your deepest secrets, lips I could only imagine taste like sweet sakura on a spring morning…”
Beau took a sip of their pitch black coffee, unamused.
“Oh, and he had an absolutely wondrous taste in hats! And his hair… actually his hair was a little terrible looking-”
Beau slammed their textbook down, spitting out their sip of coffee while staring at their roommate in disbelief and horror.
“HAT GUY?! You fell in love with HAT GUY?!”
Yvette’s eyes sparkled. She shoved her face closer to Beau’s.
“You know him! How wonderful!” Yvette twirled once more like a doll in a music box. A music box that had stopped working a decade ago and played only a jumbled mess of sounds intolerable to the human ear. “So that’s his name… hat guy…”
“No, that’s not his actual name but-” Beau slapped their palm to their face. “Out of all the men in Teyvat…”
“It’s not? Well, what’s his name then?” Yvette leaned closer to Beau.
“I wouldn’t tell you! You’d probably go and stalk the poor guy or something!” Beau shoved Yvette’s face to the side for the umpteenth time.
“I would never do that…” Yvette turned around, pouting.
Having recovered from the shock, Beau sat back down at their chair with their textbook, now disgruntled by the lack of coffee in their cup and competence in their roommate.
“Prayres to the Archons for Hat Guy. He’ll need them.”
He just wants to be loveddd he just needs to be cared forrr picks him up and smooches him all over like thissss
Maysie Lore Incoming!!! :D
The girl’s gaze pointed toward the beach nearby. She knew being on land was forbidden, but she couldn’t help but enjoy a few rays of sun as she lay on a rock, her seal tail swishing back and forth in relaxation as she enjoyed her brief moment of peace.
The selkie was alerted to the sound of a splash nearby. She spotted a group of intimidating lawchurls looking over a cliff into the sea. They had knocked a human into the water! She leaped from her rock, embracing her full seal form to swim towards the sinking human. Her eyes locked onto her target, a human man who couldn’t be much older than her, his cape flowing in the current, which had already taken his polearm past the point of recovery.Â
She swam beneath him, carrying him on her back to the surface. Transforming back into a half-human, she laid his body on the beach, safe and sound.
Now she could get a better look at him. She brushed his evergreen hair away from his face, gently placing a finger on the beauty mark beneath his eye.
Amazing… a human up close…
She had only seen humans from a distance, admiring the adventurers who came from the human city of Mondstadt.
The man’s eyes began to flutter open. The girl quickly darted back into the sea, avoiding being seen. Still, in her seal form, she gazed upon him once more.
“Maysie! Where have you been?! Your father’s been looking all over the sea for you!”Â
The selkie girl dropped her storybook, turning her attention to the seal in front of her.
“I’m sorry, ma’am… I went for a swim and…”
“That is no way for the princess of the kingdom of the selkies to behave, young lady!”
Maysie sighed. She was used to being scolded by now, but she grew tired of her family’s constant demands. What good is a kingdom if it’s confined to just one place in the sea anyway? She might as well stay in her room, reading her stories about princesses and knights. Maysie sighed as she left her room to go to yet another formal meeting, wishing a handsome knight would take her away from all the boredom.
“A mermaid pulled you out of the water?” Amber was quick to get excited from his little story, jumping to fantastical conclusions.
“I doubt that… It was just some weird lady. And I could swim out of the water myself, I mean, there was nothing stopping me!” Lohen insisted on the fact that he was a strong and capable knight who could never be harmed, even though he just got the life knocked out of him by a band of monsters just hours ago.
“I was enjoying that fight too! If only the stupid water wasn’t in the way…”
Lohen rolled his eyes as the excited knights around him.
“Mermaid mermaid!” Little Klee bounced around with joy. “We can go fish blasting together!”
“I wouldn't recommend going fish blasting with someone who’s part fish…” Albedo attempted to negotiate with the little spark knight.
“Well, I’m going back to fighting then!” Lohen announced, turning away from his fellow knights.
“Wait a minute! You almost drowned just now! Give it a rest!” Master Jean tried to persuade him, but he was already out the door.
—
Maysie had made up her mind. No longer would she stay inside these stifling ocean walls! She was going to set foot on human lands and explore the land of Mondstadt herself!
Maysie reached the shore, shedding her seal form and letting herself become fully human.
She immediately tripped and fell onto the ground.
“Real ground…” She thought, smiling as she balanced herself once more on the sand, adjusting her seal coat and preparing to set off.
Despite the occasional fall, Maysie became fairly well adjusted to the ground beneath her feat. Swimming was far easier, but the ground was much more exciting! Maysie marveled at the seemingly endless plains ahead of her. She felt the wind touch her hair and it blew past her. She giggled.
The road to the city was a long and winding one, but Maysie didn’t care. She adored every moment she spent on the land, being able to feel the ground beneath her own two flippers- er- feet.
She heard a yell from behind; startled, she attempted to hide behind a tree, only for her new legs to fail her as she fell.
“Well… what do we have here?” A scary man loomed over her. Treasure hoarders.
“Is that seal fur? That coat could buy us a fortune!” The treasure hoarders surrounded her, seeking her selkie coat. Maysie glared at them, holding the coat closer to her body.
“What makes you think you can have it, huh?!” She yelled.
“Well, I don’t see a weapon on ya. That coat’s ours for the taking!” The hoarder pulled out a dagger, aiming for Maysie.
He was promptly met with a polearm through the leg, knocking him to the ground.
“You want a fight, huh? Well then, let’s fight!”Â
The battle ended as quickly as it started. There was an icy blue flash, and then the treasure hoarders fled in fear and awe.
“Wait, come back! I’m not finished beating you to the ground yet!”
Maysie looked up at her rescuer. It was the man she’d saved only a few days ago! The manic look on his face was absolutely stunning, like a leopard seal striking its prey.
“It’s you!” Maysie gasped.
“The one and only!” The man replied. “Don’t be too surprised, one of my colleagues would have come for you too, I’m sure. I’m just killing time.”
Maysie dipped her head to one side. “Your colleagues? There’s more of you?” She asked.
The man stared at her. “Uh.. yeah? The knights of Favonius are known all around here. You recognized me too, didn’t ya?”
“You’re a knight…” Maysie said. A real knight, like in a storybook!
“I take it you’re not from around here then, huh?”
Maysie shook her head.
“I guess you could say that…”
The man helped her to her feet.
“I’m Lohen, vice captain of the fourth company of the knights of Favonius here in Mondstadt! Pleased to meetcha!” Lohen gave her a mock gentlemanly bow.
“Maysie. Call me Maysie.” She giggled, shaking his hand. She promptly wobbled on her feet.
Lohen caught her before she fell. “Woah there! If I didn’t know any better, I’d think you just learned to walk a few hours ago.” He joked.
“Ah, thank you so much!” Maysie looked toward the horizon. “Say… you wouldn’t know how to get to the city, would you?”
