Griffith College Cork
One university that has caught my interest is Griffith College Cork which is at Mews House, 62 Wellington Rd, Montenotte, Cork, T23 P5PC, Eire. This is a university that is outside of the UK in Ireland. The entry requirements for the course is to have five 06/h7 grades as a minimum including English (or irish), this is equivalent to five GCSE's. The course is three years and the structure of it is: Year 1- Applied Photography, Digital Photography, History of Art & Photography, Photographic Techniques, Practical Photography, Research and Writing Skills, and Ways of Seeing; Year 2- Commercial Photography, Media Law and Ethics, Photography & Motion, Structured Photo Project, Large-Format Photography, Layout and Graphic Design, Photo Essay/Editorial Photography, and Visual Methodologies; and Year 3- The Business of Photography, Final Photographic Project, Professional Practice, The Politics of the Image, Advanced Commercial Photography, Video Production, and People Photography. This university interests me because it is abroad and as it is in Ireland there is a different scenery and way of life that I would like to explore.
North Kent College
Another option is to remain where I am at North Kent College to continue my studies. I would go to the Dartford Campus which is located at Oakfield Ln, Dartford DA1 2JT. The entry requirement for this course if you are under the age of 21 is 80 UCAS points, of which no more than 10 points should come from AS levels. They also accept equivalent qualifications, including: BTEC/National Diploma, International Baccalaureate, Advanced & Progression Diplomas and Access courses, plus: GCSE English language & Maths with a minimum. Thus two year course is split into two levels (level 4 and 5), level 4 consists of 4 units: Photographic Techniques, Materials and Processes, Contextual Studies, Concepts in Photography 1 and Work Based Learning 1. Level 5 consists of 4 units also which are: Photographic Practice for Media and Publication, Critical Studies, Concepts in Photography 2 and Work Based Learning 2. I am interested in this course because I am used to the location and what the study pattern is.
University of Huddersfield
The university of Huddersfield is situated at Queensgate, Huddersfield, HD1 3DH. To get onto the course you have to either get 120 Ucas tariff points from various Level 3 Qualifications, as well as getting a BBB (in A Level) or DMM (in a BTEC). This course is three years with an optional placement year in the third year resulting in a total of four years. The three years at the university consist of three units per year, Year One: Photography Process and Workflow (1), this module will focus on the relationship between photography, electronic imaging, digital manipulation and professional practice; Photographic Theory and Practice, this module introduces you to the fundamental concept of Genre as a ‘type’ of cultural product, you will be asked to respond to briefs to advance your own technical and conceptual skills; Digital Media Design Foundation Studio Practice, this studio module is 100% portfolio work and it enables you to explore themes that are pertinent to contemporary digital media design, using both analogue and digital processes. Year Two: Digital Media Design Intermediate Studio, delivered throughout your second year the Intermediate Studio requires you to produce works of increasing sophistication having successfully completed the Foundation Studio; Audiences and Contexts, this module promotes a critical approach to commercial, fine art and academic practices; Photography Process and Workflow (2), the focus of this module is on professional standards and diversity of image making, continuing on from year one. Year Three is the optional work experience period, in this time students would normally spend a total of 48 weeks at a placement where you would be monitored and assecesd. Year Four (final year): Reasearch and Development for Photography, the aim of this module is to establish and inform about you're major project; Theory for Photograph, this module is specifically designed to unfold throughout the final year reflecting theoretical, technical and professional issues appropriate to your practice; and finally the Major Project, this is a final look of everything you've done where you can build up everything you've learnt and test and research everything you can do. This course is interesting to me as it offers a placement year allowing me to go out and try something different and whilst still learning and getting experience.
