Under a Haunted Shadow
Shortly after the events of the Siege of Lordareon
The sun blazed high above in an orange and purple sky, what meager clouds dared travel these sky ways did so at the peril of burning up like whispered words. Whispered words floated among these stones and sand, speaking in an ancient tongue few remembered or wished to ever repeat. But he knew. And as Zexx Candell began to hear those burning tones and ludicrous guttural voices he snapped out of the black blanket that had clouded him and realized he was now on a bed of black sand.
“Of course this would be hell,” he muttered, his voice echoing about him mingling and losing strength to the cacophony of whispers. Groaning, his aching form would slowly turn over from his back to his hands and knees, the black sand itching and falling out of the small places in what was left of his armor. Releasing a wheezing cough he would slowly sit back onto his haunches and lift his head back as he felt a familiar horrific burn in his chest and throat.
“Good morning, lover.”

Make Haste
Lumen slowly made her way to the door as she heard the rapid and urgent knocking upon it. Her body still ached and was still healing from her near fatal wounds in Lordaeron. But most of all, it was her heart that seemed to be slowest to heal. There wasn’t a day that went by that she didn’t think of her wayward father figured Zexx Candell; there was not a day she didn’t pray for his return and if not his return, then his salvation upon his death. Tears ran over her cheeks, and she felt like she had never, and could never stop crying. Though gingerly, her left hand reached the door knob, turning it.
She had no time to think and no time to breathe as a familiar face entered her home and took her in their arms. Laikin stared behind Lumen, his eyes falling upon Emily and Lydia quietly playing within the living quarters, such a sight near tearing his heart from his chest. “Lumen..” he breathed. “I am so so sorry. I had to leave you there.” he whispered at her ear as he continued to hold the small frame of the frail woman.
Finally he released her and she was able to stare into his eyes. “L-Laikin..” she stammered out, not really knowing why he came, but she felt down into her soul it was nothing good. The look in his eyes said it all, then his words confirmed it.
“Lumen, they are coming for you. The Kirin Tor will hunt you down and they will not stop until you are dead. You were not suppose to be in Lordaeron. This was not our war. As much as I know, we want that Banshee bitch to die, my darling friend… It was against our way. But.. you knew this.” He ran his hands down his worry lined face, tears spouting from his eyes. She didn’t respond and simply looked at him in the eyes, feeling a hard sting of betrayal. “It.. It wasn’t me, Lumen. I did not tell them. I was -with- you, remember that. There was a rat among us, a mole. You do not know what I had to tell them so that I would have the ability to come find you; to warn you. I had to tell them I went after you, to stop you, but I also told them it looked as if you died upon the battle field.” He paused, swallowing hard. “I thought.. you died. But then another confirmed a soldier of the Alliance, some.. some militia man found you and took you to safety. Somehow, they have confirmed that you are alive. You have to leave, Lumen. Take your girls and leave, it is NOT safe here.” His steel grey gaze bore down into hers as he lightly gripped her arms.

Everafter.
Rays of sun peaked through the canopy of green above Vexxis’ head, the druidess making her usual daily rounds about the Vineyards. Everything was still going quite smoothly, and nearly four houses were near completion and then after that another four would be started on. She couldn’t help but smile as everything seemed to be falling completely into place and the horrors of the world that had just transpired seemed to hurt just a little less and seem a little farther away.
She took a moment’s reprieve, settling herself upon a tree stump that immediately erupted in flowers and colorful fungi alike as she sat upon it. She was quite happy, if not elated at the moment, and her magic always moved so with her moods.
Golden eyes peered all about the beautiful day around her, taking in a deep breath of the lively scents of nature, though soon they fell upon her left hand and her smile softened. Upon it rested the ring that Cendelorn had given her only two nights prior, asking for her hand in marriage and to be his life mate. It was something she longed for, truly, since the day she had first put her eyes on his handsomely rugged visage. Whether she knew it or not, there had always been that tugging at her heart that wanted more with the marksman. All she knew in that moment, when their eyes first met was that he was going to have a grand impact on her life, one way or the other, and always be a part of it.
Now? Here she was ready to spend the rest of her living days with him and beyond. For she was sure that when Elune decided to call her beloved home, she would only want to go with him. How she loved and adored him, and how something so sweet and simple, yet so pivotal and monumental was needed in their lives right now. How much the both of them had lost, but yet all they had gained at the same time was almost overwhelming.
She felt a few tears drip from her eyes onto her hand as she continued to watch that glistening diamond in the sunlight, smiling at how intricately the gold and silver leaves weaved around the expert cut gem.
Her eyes soon lifted, peering out over the bustling land before her, thriving and full of life. She began to reflect softly on how quickly Cendelorn had nearly lost his life in Darkshore, how his parents fell to the battle in front of him. It was with great determination in her heart, fingertips gently moving over that ring, that she decided from this day forth, no matter the cost he would never face another battle alone; not without her. Come what may, she would be beside of him, here and everafter.

A Glittering Demise
The Day Lordaeron was Seiged…
A cacophony of screams and terror filled the air as the battle raged on around the gnome and those of her company, falling under the banner of the Grand Alliance. She had not been called to arms, but had volunteered for this. There was no time for her eyes to gather in the horrors around her. Mists were kept at a constant swirl about her person, erupting from her marked palm and outward into those that needed rejuvenation and healing. She had left all behind for this war: her home, her beloved Manuel, her family that was Ludlow Vineyards. She would not let her fears win and over take her now.

Touch of Pain.
Up and down the hammer went, striking with the small, hot piece of metal that was held still on the anvil by a pair of tongs. Thadwyl had been hard at work with his most recent project, having lost track of progress over the last couple of days, especially after he had gone to the pub with his comrades and came home feeling the effects of the mixed alcohol he had drunk. Once he finished shaping the piece to his liking, he set it off into the cauldron of water as steam rose up once it made contact. He fixed the apron around his form.

Father, Forgive me...
[[ Following All of Zexx’s stories found at 1, 2 , 3 , 4 , 5 , 6 , 7 ]]
Weak were the eyes of the mage as her shaking hand raised and ran down her face, smearing what dust was left of the hearthstone in her hand upon it. Tears mingled with the dust, grime, and blood as she looked at the female dwarf before her, trying to gather her thoughts and who these people were. There was nothing she could focus on besides the deep cutting ache in her chest that far overpowered her more physical wound. Zexx had sacrificed himself, at least she thought, to save her.
One hand now clutched the arrow in her stomach and the other her tabard and tattered armor over her heart. Choking sobs suddenly erupted from the woman, and all around her seem to spin as a few dwarves and humans began to try to urge her from her spot, feeling as if she were dying of her grief instead of the grievous wound in her belly. Luckily she was too weak to protest as they carried her to a bed. With mutterings of her sorrow upon her tongue and that of her ‘father’s’ name on her lips, all went black again.

Part 6 - Daughter
Zexx collapsed into the parapet of the siege tower, panting and sweating he lay down on the burned out wood and tried his best to calm his breathing. He just needed to catch his breath and then he could figure out what to do next.
Turning his face to look at the reclining Lumen, he began to truly see the extent of her wounds and the dark stain that was coating her tabard and his own as he touched his chest. Lifting his hand a moment to stare at the tacky red liquid, knowing this was much worse than he initially thought. Stomach wounds were bad and took forever, but there’s no way they could stay up here for very long and both walk out of here.

Part 5 - I Won’t Leave You
Zexx was glad he was tall, especially in the leg as he charged along among the fleeing living. The living, it’s what the aftermath of this siege had reduced them all to again. Now hardly being the time to worry about colors or race, now it was about breathing. Dodging around a slower pair of humans carrying a draenei man on a litter, he didn’t even give a second thought to helping his lagging comrades. He had to get Lumen out of here.

Part 4 - Wrong Place, Wrong Time
Minutes felt like hours as he wandered among the field, his one eye searching among the dead for any signs of life. Luckily in his first few groupings he had been able to pull out a young woman off a troll, her hands gripping tight to the axe she’d buried in his chest even with a javelin hanging broken out of her back. Soothing words, time, and a litter born by two dwarves the woman was taken off to the rear camp and the priests who waited as Zexx watched them pick their way across.

Bodies lay all about. Some in blue. Some in red. A lot in red to be truthful. Resting back on his haunches, Zexx would reach up to pull his helmet off and toss it aside as he look around at the carnage of the gate battle. So many dead, he thought, and yet here I am still. Unscathed is what he wanted to report, but a tauren’s totem blow had sent him head over heels before the final push into the city. His shield lost he’d been lucky when the flying Kul Tiran galleon had opened fire and blown apart everything. Definitely something you don’t see every day.

Part 2 - Blessed be the Son
“Zexx, ya cannae go. Yer naught well nuff for such a journay. Grum tell em!” Gwenna Firebrew looked between the packing human and the young dwarf Grumvald Brewham with an exasperated look on her middle aged face. The dwarf woman held a blue shirt in her hands as she wrung the fabric in her calloused hands, her expression a mix of frustration and worry at the sudden decision of the human. The swordsman before being a good friend of their family and even closer since he had first come north a year ago in need of a place to stay.

Part 1 - The Battle Begins
Gritting his teeth, Zexx would plant his spear end to the ground and hoist himself back up to his feet as the icy blue mist would slowly disperse the final remnants of the Blight attack the Forsaken had unleashed. The icy cold air he drew in huge lungfuls eased the suffering of his insides and outsides from the burning rot that the Forsaken had unleashed on the living, Alliance and Horde alike.

Letter to the Lady
The days seemed to be growing shorter and shorter as summer within the Eastern Kingdoms was coming to a close. While it was still warm outside, Vexxis could smell the crisp chill of fall moving inward, prompting her to take another sip of the hot tea in her hands as she snuggled herself tighter in the blanket that wrapped around her.
She was sitting upon the porch of her home, looking down at a letter in her free hand, scanning over it with a gentle smile. The words of Lady Ludlow put a deep and dwelling happiness in her heart, one that she was welcoming to this morning. Immediately after she was finished with her tea she went back inside in order to prepare her correspondence. She hadn’t been writing in the common language long, but her handwriting was still fluid and impeccable, truly capturing the work of the slender elven fingers that wrote it.
And so, with her wax, seal stamper and other items needed spread out on the table, she began to write….
“Dear Lady Ludlow,
First and foremost I wish to say that your letter has warmed my heart, and I was so very glad to receive it and hear from you. I wish for your heart and mind to feel not an ounce of worry. Everything is running well here. I make sure to check on the winery, distillery and do walk abouts upon the Vineyards every single day to make sure work is going according to your standards, and so far everything is smooth sailing.
The refugees are doing wonderful. There are some that are still healing from their wounds, and some of their wounds will never here. But, all in all they are acclimating well. Some are even helping build houses and others have joined up with the hunters and gatherers of the village and estate to aid in getting what we need to keep everyone fed. I will also start the planning for their dinner today and send those needed to gather what extra things we will need. I will also visit the gardens myself to aid in gathering fruit and vegetables, and make sure to get a few casks of wine to top it all off. It will be a beautiful affair, my lady. I will use the camera that one of the gnomes made for me to take pictures and mail them to you so that you may see the merriment.
I have also went over the payroll ledgers, along with your bookkeeper Sulien, and made sure everyone was paid accordingly. Quite a strange man he is, but likable in my opinion.
I can understand why the Ambassador does not wish for you and your children to be anywhere near the Eastern Kingdoms. The battle still rages to the north, but I fear it shant be long before it reaches Stormwind, though I hope I am wrong.
At any rate, my lady and friend, keep yourself well and stay your worries as best as possible. I will work tirelessly as I have been to ensure your Vineyards are doing well, this I promise you.
With love and care,
Vexxis Skybloom”
Softly her lips curled into a gentle smile as she folded the letter and placed it down into the envelope present. Humming, she lay it upon her table for now, moving just outside her door to gather, very carefully mind you, a handful of wild flowers she had growing with the hedges. Her druidic magic coursed through them a moment, making sure it would take much longer for them to wilt, if they ever even would. Laying the flowers down, she tied a lovely ribbon around the envelope, securing the flowers within it. To finish it off, heated wax was poured against the bow of the ribbon, using her stamper to place her seal upon it.
Bare feet now carried her towards Ludlow Manor, making it just in time to see the courier arriving as well. She handed him the letter with a smile and bow of her head, the young boy always seeming awestruck with the beautiful elf. She laughed quietly, and gave him a gold coin for his troubles, making doubly sure he knew it was to get to Elizebella Ludlow in Dalaran. Afterwards, she was off to begin the work she promised the Lady daily.
@elizebella
Vexxis stared out of tired but forever kind eyes at the work that had already began at Ludlow Village just at the break of dawn’s first rays. The cottages and houses were beyond their first permanent foundations thanks to the many hands on Lady Elizebella Ludlow’s lands that were willing to help. Even some of the lower ranked guards would use their breaks to put nails in boards or lay cobbled brick.
Such sights always made the Druid full with joy and pride to be part of such a big thing for her people, and for this House. Her children were still sleeping, as was her beloved Cendelorn as she began the first of her rounds today. As if she were floating on air, bare feet moved across the grass and earth, greeting those around her with a smile. She was more than happy to see that some of the refugees they had taken in were helping erect the houses as well. Things like this appeared to give them hope and purpose when most felt like they had lost it all to the fires of the World Tree. To her, the sight reinstated her faith that Elune had not abandoned her children of the stars; she only had greater plans for them.
Here, those displaced no longer had to suffer such a harsh sting of loss. It was swiftly blanketed and cushioned with healing, medicines, jobs, and brotherhood. She was on her way to check the food stores and soon after that, heading to the gardens that hosted all their growing fruits and vegetables, as to which, everyday she aided in growing and making them in great abundance. Soon after, she met with the hunters and gatherers upon the lands, sending them off to bring back meats, furs, herbs and wild plants.
By the end of her morning duties it was time for lunch, hardly having taken even the slightest break to think. A soft sigh erupted from her lips and a loving smile caressed them as her steps carried her back towards her own home in the village.
Her smile only grew as she was greeted by her beloved and her children. Cendelorn kissed her brow and spoke that he loved her, and she returned his words and sentiment. Soon he was off with their sons to spend time with them, and make up the weeks lost that battle had stolen from him.
Vexxis’ heart swelled with love and pride as she watched them walk away, her daughter Daryn cradled in her arms. With a sense of accomplishment and nearly overwhelming emotions of joy and hope she made her way back inside her home for a time. She had earned a short nap and she intended to take it.
