" Mama, I'll watch Socorro you can take a break." He would offer out his arms to take his little sister.
Thanks to having Miguel first, Luisa learned how to do many, many things while also holding a baby. To clean, cook, work in the workshop, etc. She just began to learn, since Miguel wouldn’t want to be in anyone’s arms as a baby besides his parents and Mama Coco, but he was still fussy, only fully calming when in his mother’s arms. Now, she had her little boy to help with his little sister while Enrique was in the workshop, working hard.
“Gracias, mijo.” A hand under his chin with a grateful smile on her face, as she didn’t have to move much as Socorro was already reaching for her big brother. The sight definitely made her smile, as she spread both arms and brought both of her children into a loving hug. “I love you both so much.” Giving a kiss to both of their heads, before rubbing her face into their’s as she giggled. Going to sit down and watch her son and daughter, watching them interact was a sight that made her heart soar. @sopocoloco
sopocoloco:
The NEXT day, —- after he had ran away from his familia & was gone for nearly a whole night — there was just THINGS he knew he wasn’t able to share with everyone that he wanted to. The next morning, the whole story of Mama Coco’s papa came to spot light and the truth of their family was soon revealed. However, the day went on and he hadn’t really EXPLAINED himself to his parents. Mainly — his mama who went back to normal after a few hours. Everyone was worn out and tired from being up all night LOOKING for him and being worried. While he already apologized to his papa, his aunts & uncles — the only one left to really talk to was Luisa. She, being the one that likely worried more than anything, right? Miguel plopped down on the end of his parents bed, she laid there reading one of her books, staying off her feet due to her pregnancy.
❝ Mama —– I’m sorry I ran away. I didn’t mean to worry you. —- I didn’t mean to stay away for so long ( THINGS happened, of course. He also cut his apology short, not knowing what else to really say. As the explanation was just a waste of breath. However, he never in his whole life meant to upset and worry his mama the way he did the night before. TRUTH be told, he loved his family a whole bunch. ) ❞ / @ luivcra
Luisa’s feet were aching from the night’s search, however, she didn’t regret it. The only thing she regretted was that she couldn’t find him before the night was over and have him in her arms, safe and sound. She expected to see Miguel walking in, as she looked at his guilt-stricken eyes. Hearing his apologies, she sighed softly, putting her book down on the bed side table. “Oh, Miguel.. Come here, bebe.” Gently, she took hold of his hand to get him to scoot closer so he sat next to her. She would sit him on her lap, but her stomach can barely let herself touch her mid thigh.
Hugging him close like she wanted to do since the whole thing happened, she ran her fingers through his black tresses. “I’m sorry, too, Miguel. I was worried sick, thinking something happened too, but I shouldn’t have let things get to that point. Pero, from now on, I’m not going to let this happen again.” She leaned back to look at her son and spoke, “Now, if you promise, not to run away like that again, I will pay for you to have music lessons. Don’t worry about your papa y abuelita; I will talk to them, and when you’re older, if you wish to continue to play music, work in workshop, or both. That will be your choice. No one else’s.”
As soon as Miguel came home and sang to Mama Coco, Luisa had a long discussion with her husband to put her foot down. She didn’t want Miguel to run off again; so whether they wanted her to or not, she got Enrique to agree to let Miguel enjoy his love for music and pay for music lessons for him to do after school, instead of the shoe shop. And when asked, she always says, “he will choose when he’s older”.
" Well ---- I just ----" He'd rub the back of his neck and looked to the ground. " no importa, olvídalo mama. I'll figure it out myself I guess." He'd sulk his shoulders. He didn't want to distract his mama from her work.
“Oh Miguel,” She brought a hand from his cheek to his chin, to lift his head to look at her. “You know, you can come and talk to me about anything.” Miguel used to talk to Mama Coco for so long, he deserved to still talk to someone, even when Mama Coco passed away. “I am never going to tell you that I don’t want to hear you. Okay, mijo.” @sopocoloco
Miguel’s Disappearance
DO NOT REBLOG // REPOST!!!
5:00 pm - 6:00 pm : Worried
“I don’t wanna be in this family!”
Luisa gasped in shock, not only at her Mamá Elena’s harsh punishment; but her son being so broken and hurt that he would wish to not be a part of their family and ran off. She watched her husband try to stop him and it was probably the maternal instinct in her along with her pregnancy hormones; she immediately worried about her son at that moment. Not anyone else but him. “Miguel! Miguel!” She hurried to the gate, looking around the street.
She turned to her husband who was ready to go searching for him, “Mi amor, don’t worry, we’ll look for him.” Giving him a frown she spoke, “I’m coming too. I’m worried.” Enrique had instructed the rest of his family to search the other parts of town; he and Luisa were going to go down by the plaza and cemetery. It was best decided that they would be better to find him first.
“I can’t believe he was pushed to such a limit.” Enrique stopped her as he spoke, “Luisa, we’ll find him as soon as we can. Let’s find him and we’ll fix this.”
6:00 pm - 10:00 pm : Angry
“Enrique, we looked everywhere; we asked everybody. Something could have happened to him. If anything happens to him--” Luisa stopped her ranting worries when she felt her husband’s hands on her shoulders, trying to calm her down, “Luisa, go home and rest. Worrying like this will hurt the baby.” Luisa didn’t mean to get upset, she was worried, angry, scared, and guilty. All these moods were building up in her, she couldn’t stop herself, “No, I’m not going home until I have him back, Enrique. I knew one day this would happen.”
With a hand on her stomach, she continued walking, looking for her dear child. To give him the biggest lecture for scaring her, making her worry that something happened. And to give him a guilty, apologetic hug, for not stepping in and stopping Mama Elena. Just because Luisa agreed to the family’s ban, it wasn’t fair for Miguel, who was born into it.
11:00 pm - 1:00 am : Guilty
“Luisa, amor, por favor. Go home and rest, we’ll keep looking.” Luisa stopped in her tracks, the pregnancy making her feet swollen in her chancletas from the non-stop walking and the extra water weight. Feeling the tears build up, she kept going, not stopping to look for her sunshine. “Luisa.” Gently, his larger hand grabbed her own, and she turned to him with worry, guilty eyes, fear in her heart of what’s happening. “I’m a terrible mama, I didn’t do anything to help him, I just---” Enrique made quiet ‘shh’ to silence her guilt, pulling her to him in a hug, Luisa spoke into his ear, “What if something happened to him? I can’t go home, knowing he’s out there and not en la casa.”
“Mírame,” she did, staring up at him, “I promise, I will not stop looking for him. Papa, Gloria, Berto, Carmen and them will all stay out looking for him. But you have to take care of you and the baby. Go home and rest, I’ll make sure Miguel goes to you primero.” Luisa tried to calm herself, staring up into his eyes, she gave a tired nod. Happy that he made his wife finally agree, he pressed a kiss to her lips in a promise and she went home, while he continued his search.
1:15 am - 1:30 am : Sad
Luisa sat on the bed, staring out of their window, searching for her baby boy, to come in and she gives him hugs and kisses after a good stern talk. But nothing, she prayed to el Dios that he brought her son home, safe and sound. She just wanted her son here, reading to him stories, she didn’t sleep at all. Not when she hoped to catch him if he came home.
“Please, come home, Miguel.”

" Mama, I have a problem.."
Luisa had put down the lid over the pot of arroz and turned to her son as he came to her. He always knew he could come to her for anything; especially with everything that’s happened. “Sí, mijo. ¿Qué paso?” She will do whatever she can to make his problem go away and fix it. @sopocoloco

@luivcra liked for a one-liner starter.
“He is a lot like his Papá Héctor…which means he will play música, he will never learn how to sit still, he will trip over his own feet, but…..you will never have to worry about anything else. He’s a good boy, mija”
Luisa was proud to hear that the woman was just as proud of Miguel as she was. “Gracias, mama Imelda. I am very happy and proud of him. I am also happy to hear you think so too. Now that I’ve got to meet him, I am happy to see he took after his Papá Héctor.”
I’ll be writing a long headcanon of how I imagine Luisa was all night during the search of her son.
Quietly sneaks back in here since I have two days off. I am here to finish my theme, answer asks that the sweet @sopocoloco has left me, and the thread we have!!
" mama --- you're so wonderful. I bought you something for El Dia de la Madre -- well -- papa and I did. "
“Oh, mijo, you didn’t have to get me anything.” She put her basket of laundry down, as she took her son in her arms in a tight hug. “Just seeing you and your sister smile is enough for me.” She’ll thank her husband when she sees him in the workshop, of course. She had made sure to get him moving to the market to get his mother something and wish her a Happy Mother’s Day. Taking a seat on a chair to wait for her child to give whatever he had gotten for her.
Luisa loved when Miguel would bring home drawings, crafts, or a flower plucked straight from the garden outside. She loved them all, because he thought of her when he gave them to her. “I’ll love it no matter what, Miguel.” @sopocoloco
" Mama. I don't want to sleep "
Luisa looked down at the young boy who was jumping up and down on his bed, still so much adrenaline in his body. Soon corners of pink lips turned upwards in a smirk, hands on her hips as she stared at her little boy. “Oh, Miguel. You know, you have to be up early tomorrow, right?” She waited for when he jumped for her to catch him mid air and hold him close to her in a hug as she made roar noises like a monster that caught him, the cuco ready to get him; sitting on his bed with him in her lap. “Now, what should we do to get you to go to sleep, mijo? A story?”
Or a lullaby?
Looking up at the door, she made sure to check under the door to not see a shadow of anyone to hear. The one time Mama Elena caught her and oh, did she have an earful when she caught Luisa singing the toddler to sleep. Hugging him to her chest, she kept her voice quiet, for only her beloved child to hear. A lullaby her grandmother sang to her when her parents were busy with late work. @sopocoloco
" mama !! You're so pretty!!! " He'd laugh, continuing to play the guitar.
Luisa held some of her dress in her hands as she felt her feet move like it never has before; twirling about with the rhythm of the music. It’s been so long since she’s done any sort of dancing, having married Enrique as soon as they graduated; she had to stop. Of course, as a baby, she would hum and dance with Miguel in her arms in secret away from the family. Moving so her sandals made the smooth patting on the floor, she never thought it’d be in her lifetime that the Rivera’s would change such a long view on music.
But Miguel did it, with his passion, to make his abuelita open her eyes to the beauty and joy music can cause. Stopping her twirl, she placed a hand under his chin, like she would always do when he was down, but now they both were laughing and enjoying the melody. “And you are my handsome, little man.” She pressed a kiss to her son’s forehead, before she smiled and stood up straight again, “Did you know, Miguel; I used to dance in recitals when I was a little girl?” @sopocoloco

stringofsouls:
❝ —– Mama, I don’t think this WORK is meant for me. lo siento ❞ Glancing down toward the sewing machine, TODAY was his first day at the work shop. Although music WAS allowed back into his life, that his family lifted the centuries old ban, it didn’t get him out for working for his families shop. Besides, he wasn’t against it himself. ( In fact — he wanted to help the family business, help it grow and expand as it has been doing for YEARS. )
HONESTLY – from the rough day at school but he would NEVER admit up to that. ( — it didn’t matter anyway, he wouldn’t stop reaching toward his goals. He wouldn’t let the words of stranger’s change his passion. SOMETHING that made his family closer, saved a remembrance of his great great grandfather. Of course it did bug him and caused a distraction from this evenings work — ) ❝ M– maybe I can just continue to shine shoes and play my guitarra outside the shop? ❞ / @luivcra
Luisa had turned on the radio to play some music so Miguel felt comfortable in the shop. She was going to be the one to teach him the basics, to be there to show him what to do. His words however caught her ears and she looked to the side to see him staring down at the sewing machine. Putting down her chancleta that she was working on and turned a bit in her stool. Now this was not a face she wanted to see her son have, no, he should be living with a smile on his face and loving life...
“Oh Miguel,” she wished she had a bit more authority in the family, but she didn’t, “I know it’s not the ideal work. I definitely did not expect to be a shoemaker growing up. But it was important for tú papá y familía.” Taking her hand to rest under his chin to gesture for him to look up at her and she spoke, “But I don’t want to end up losing you for making you do something you don’t want to again...” Luisa remembered when she stayed up all night looking for her son, worried and fearful for his safety, Enrique tried to get her to go home and sleep because of the baby. But she couldn’t until he came home. “If that’s how you feel, mijo, I’ll talk to your papá and get him to talk to your abuelita. Okay?”
