I’ve seen a few posts, and @oceanamethyst brought up a really good point about Rui’s insecurity. I think if he did try to speak up, Sakaki would invent a narrative and distort the truth to make it seem like it was Rui’s fault all along and he’ll fall for it, because he believes wholeheartedly what others say about him, so imagine this professional director saying so to his face. If Sakaki shifts the blame on him, Rui will blame himself and stop talking. He won’t impose himself out of the blue. He is still learning to be confident in what he thinks is right.

People honestly need to normalize just. Not arguing and cutting toxic and harmful bonds from your life. If WxS just cut him off and distanced themselves, or just gave him a solid “we don’t want your help anymore.”, it would just save them the mental energy. What I think they (and we) should prioritize is Rui talking to Tsukasa, in particular. Not only to tell him everything he couldn’t say and regrets it, but also to bring him out of this mindset that the role is more important than his own life. He could seriously injure himself (or others, like Nene in Kasa7) and I would argue is at risk of.

Plus, what if Tsukasa gets major trust issues with anyone who tries to approach him in the future, since Sakaki groomed him, and that gets him stuck from getting new opportunities to grow and achieve his dream? Since he would only trust Rui and that creates some bad emotional dependency? Idk I might be going mental

Honestly (and sorry if this is a derailment from your original post), if anyone DOES confront/call out Sakaki, i think it should be a fellow adult. Specifically, I think Tom is a great candidate for this- in Rui4 we see the heavy contrast between Sakaki’s criticisms of Rui’s show (destructive) versus Tom’s criticisms (constructive). Tom is more acclaimed, more experienced than Sakaki, and clearly has Sakaki’s respect, putting him in a position to call him out safely.

It would be amazing to see an adult actually advocate for the kids in WxS. I’m constantly concerned about how much alone time these kids have with Sakaki, who is a literal groomer… i 100% agree with you that the burden of confrontation should NOT be on their shoulders. They need to either cut him out, or an adult should confront him, showing clearly that Sakaki’s behavior is not okay and will not be tolerated.

And then, yes, Rui and Tsukasa are in dire need of a lengthy conversation about the whole ordeal 😭 not to mention Emu and Nene, who also definitely suffered (i was genuinely scared for Nene during Kasa7 ngl)

Rui is literally like The Interesting GuyTM. he’s so weird he has a reputation pretty much everywhere he goes for having unique and crazy shows. his whole backstory is about how no one wanted to hang out with him because the stuff he was doing was so far out of everyone else’s wheelhouse.

also… even if it WAS “insipid”… WHY WOULD YOU TELL A CHILD THAT. Im a grown woman and i cant imagine telling a teenager that their work is “insipid” oh my god 😭 even if it was the most boring show known to man there are constructive ways to say that!

In conclusion sakaki is an insecure asshole and i cant wait to see him have a complete mental breakdown when rui’s shows inevitably surpass his

Though I imagine it would be incredibly frustrating for a middle schooler with little music education (let alone your own daughter) to outperform you at your job, can we attribute his collapse solely to professional frustration? How much failure as a man, as a breadwinner, must he feel, after giving himself fully to his passion, staking his family's survival on his choice, only to realize he lacks the skill to succeed? After all, surely the more reasonable option would be to simply accept Kanade's help...unless he has some other, complicating emotion.

There is a theory that Kanade's dad didn't simply collapse, but was hospitalized after choosing to disappear. What sort of thought process would he need to have in order to abandon his only child, rather than acknowledge her talent?

really relating to honami in unsteady still steady step… it doesnt seem like a huge deal from the outside, but it actually is so demoralizing when there’s something you’re trying to change about yourself (in her case, trying to be more decisive) and you feel yourself staying in your old ways despite really trying to change.
