People often talk about how Ena's dad and Mafuyu's mom (the Problem Parents) were likely affected by sociatal gender roles, and how they became sexust as a result. But what about Kanade's dad?
Though I imagine it would be incredibly frustrating for a middle schooler with little music education (let alone your own daughter) to outperform you at your job, can we attribute his collapse solely to professional frustration? How much failure as a man, as a breadwinner, must he feel, after giving himself fully to his passion, staking his family's survival on his choice, only to realize he lacks the skill to succeed? After all, surely the more reasonable option would be to simply accept Kanade's help...unless he has some other, complicating emotion.
There is a theory that Kanade's dad didn't simply collapse, but was hospitalized after choosing to disappear. What sort of thought process would he need to have in order to abandon his only child, rather than acknowledge her talent?
