Dance Workshop with Rambert
Judy Adams shares her experience of taking part in a dance workshop with Rambert on 15 October at the Studio, Festival Theatre in Edinbrugh.
“This morning was wonderful! Marie from Rambert's education department gave us a superb warm up, bringing in movements that we later incorporated into the rep we learned. We also worked in pairs enjoying stretching exercises before dancing across the room and developing the movement by adding half turns and arm and head positions.
Then we began "Ruby Tuesday" from Christopher Bruce's fabulous Rooster ballet. At the beginning of the workshop I met a lady who had traveled from Newcastle because she was a Rambert fan and could not resist the chance to dance this piece. She was not disappointed! The room was full of smiling faces and people loving tackling the choreography and relishing dancing together.
After we had "mastered" the opening section of the piece we formed small groups of four people with the task of making up our own introduction. In addition we were asked to make up an end position with one or more dancers being supported by the remaining members of the group. Each group produced marvelously inventive ideas, and we performed our individual versions to great applause!
Marie then led us in a cool down, and we ended the workshop feeling exhilarated. We could not believe that we had been dancing for two hours! Where had the time gone?
Thank you, Marie, Rambert and Luminate for a delightful and inspiring morning.”
