@lumos-your-day
let 8th year draco grow out his hair and watch harry l o s e i t
“Come on, you can do better than that!” he yelled, his voice echoing around the cavernous room.
— Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
Sirius Black - the Brightest Star
🚂 Returning to Hogwarts Hello again! I was feeling super nostalgic over the summer, so I decided to listen to the HP audiobooks once more and paint a little snippet from chapter 5, The Dementor, of Prisoner of Azkaban. If you’d like to see how I created this piece, there’s a step-by-step explanation + process images + painting tips and tricks available on patreon.com/kristyvalie.
harry: nice eyes, will probably ruin your entire life with sarcastic one liners, normally pretty chill but has a temper that could kill a man, really wants to see the best in everyone, hated by Petunia for no fault of his own, raised without magic, Snape says he cares about his wellbeing but treats him like shit, kinda oblivious half the time, harnesses the Power of Love™
ginny: pureblood gryffindor w a “blood traitor” family, star chaser, popular af and knows it, no chill, only cares what a very select group of people think, probably into bad puns, had a crush on Harry for years before it was reciprocated, secretly a giant nerd but will deny it to her death
in short: ginny is actually james and harry’s lily, tbh
see the reason hermione can’t be a ravenclaw is because she wants definite answers to everything, she wants to be right, she wants the world to be rational and explainable and solveable
whereas you look at luna lovegood, actual ravenclaw, and her response to the door’s ‘which came first, the phoenix or the flame?’ question - she answers 'i think the answer is a circle which has no beginning’, to which the door replies 'well reasoned’. not correct, not the right answer, not even the best answer maybe, but it’s a good answer, and it’s accepted. the way hermione thinks, she would spend ages trying to find the correct answer and sit outside the door for a week
Snap's worst memory couldn't be finding Lily dead because he was never there? Like the movies added him add the Potter's stepping over James and ignoring Harry cry yes but in the books that didn't actually happen so it couldn't be his worst memory
Yes I know Snape wasn’t in Godric’s Hollow in the books, but he still found out she died? For example, I wasn’t with my dad when he died but finding out he had died is my worst memory, if that makes sense?
Lily dying at such a young age, with such a happy life to look forward to, having found her soulmate, and leaving her one year old child all alone in the world is very sad if you’re empathising with Lily.
Losing your best friend because you call her a mudblood is very sad for Snape if you’re empathising with him, which he is doing, he’s feeling sad for himself, not for Lily. Because I feel that’s what this really shows. His worst memory is very self-focused. And I feel it highlights his narcissism. Sorry if that’s a bit harsh! I’m not a big Snape fan, at all, even though he is a morally grey character and certainly does have something positive characteristics (I even find that hard to admit, lol!)
Interested to see what others think! Thanks for the ask!!
Can we have a Harry Potter AU where Regulus Black is the Death Eater spy turned potions master instead of Snape?
I can’t believe I only JUST realized all the comedy potential that is Sirius showing up to kill Peter 3rd year and finding his supposedly evil brother working at Hogwarts and having civil conversations with Remus about Harry’s grades
Please let this be after a full year of awkwardness of Regulus working with his evil brother’s ex
Sirius and Regulus are both convinced they’re the good brother
the movies wanted a strong female character - they already had one. hermione without flaws is not hermione.
This is the best comic in the whole wide world. I’m crying at how perfect this is.
Reblogging this again because I LOVE book Hermione. Flaws and all.
A patronus, Harry tells Hermione, is acing a test and the warmth of a butterbeer between your hands. It is your friends holding you when you fall, and Ron’s sparkling eyes when you whisper hi. And there’s an otter, swimming, and Hermione is blushing.
A patronus, Harry tells Ron, is Ginny’s shaky smile lighting up the world at the end of second year. It is winning the Quidditch World Cup, unwrapping yet another knitted jumper, and your startled surprise at the sight of Hermione punching Draco in the face. And there’s a dog, chasing the otter, and Ron is laughing.
A patronus, Harry tells Luna, is the feeling of starlight on your skin and grass between your bare toes. It is snow melting through your fingers, the magic your mother used to make, something singing in your heart when you stare at the impossible. And there’s a hare, jumping, and Luna is shining.
A patronus, Harry tells Cho, is Marietta shouting the lyrics of her favourite song, dancing in the rain during a storm. It is the look on Cedric’s face when he saw you at the Yule Ball, his hand holding yours and never letting go. And there’s a swan, sliding, and Cho is crying.
A patronus, Harry tells Seamus, is Dean’s funny expression when he is about to burst into laughter and the sound of a explosion that turns out right. It is the fireworks, bright flowers blossoming in the night sky; and the fire burning in your lungs as you fly. And there’s a fox, running, and Seamus is smirking.
A patronus, Harry tells Ginny, is the world expanding underneath you and the wind playing with your hair. It is dancing and laughing until there are tears on your cheeks, Molly’s disapproving voice and Arthur’s amused eyes after one of the twins’ pranks. And there’s a horse, flying, and Ginny is grinning.
A patronus, Harry thinks, is that weird feeling that lives in his chest when the Room of Requirement glows silver, speaking of times when the world was golden.
Luna Lovegood
:] 🔥
Luna Lovegood doesn’t shave and Ginny Weasley thinks it’s hot. pass it on.
all offense meant, there is something deeply misogynistic in the way that snape apologists portray james potter and, by extension, lily evans.
by showing james as an eternal bully, as someone who didn’t change, as someone who never truly cared for lily as a human being but as a “prize” that he strived to win, disrupts the narrative that defines lily evans– choice.
dismissing james’ character growth implies that lily evans would change her morals and standards because of shallow reasons like james’ quidditch skill or popularity. snape apologists love to portray james as an eternal bully and as someone who never became anything more than his actions in snape’s worst memory. they ignore james’ role in the order of the phoenix and as lily’s final protector– they portray a james who is controlling and manipulative, a james who is two-faced in how he acts around lily and how he truly is around snape. in turn, they portray a snape who knows more and understands james potter better than lily ever would. they portray a lily who is duped by james, deceived by his charm and his skill.
you really think lily evans, who was only ever known to be kind and vivacious and loving and brave, would be that shallow?? you think lily “you make me SICK” evans would marry a james potter who didnt mature? you honestly want to argue that lily evans would know less about james than severus snape?
lily evans’ entire character can be defined by choice. lily “chose” magic over petunia, lily chose to stand by snape in their early friendship at hogwarts, lily chose to end that friendship. lily chose to love james potter. lily chose to fight. lily chose to die.
to disregard james potter’s characterization is to disregard lily’s agency as a character. to place severus snape in the role of victim is to disregard lily’s actual place in that seat, a victim of prejudice and violence and a victim of snape’s own betrayal. lily was not the one to turn her back on snape– he betrayed her the day he delved into the dark arts and the day he internalized the idea that muggleborns were inferior.
love and appreciate severus snape as much as you want, but do NOT do lily evans or james potter the disservice of blatantly ignoring canon. do not negate lily evans’ agency. do not place the blame on her, do not make snape a victim of either lily evans or james potter. deconstruct your snape narratives. better understand his motives. better understand who he was and what he really stood for. better understand what can be a beautifully complex dynamic between snape/lily/james if you just accept who each one of them truly is.
hogwarts houses as types of students
slytherin: all-nighters, procrastination, accidental a’s, black coffee and caffeine jitters, “can’t talk, sorry, have four essays, three projects, and a 30 minute presentation due tomorrow and i’m gonna finish them all tonight,” actually finishes them all in one night, secret perfectionists, overworking themselves, secret parties on the weekend
ravenclaw: color-coded pens and highlighters, pretty notes with flower doodles, hot tea and biscuits, study schedule, functions under stressed, starts studying for the two weeks before the exam, “why do anything if you aren’t going to give your all,” takes mental health days, has their shit together, always busy
hufflepuff: doodles instead of annotations, reading notes by the fireplace, breakfast study sessions, test anxiety, tries their best, talks to professors after class, tells everyone to drink water but is dehydrated, scented candles on their desk “you wanna have a picnic in my backyard and share notes after class?”
gryffindor: last minute studying, wings it, reads notes before class, impulse decisions, skips class to hang with friends, “grades aren’t everything you know, i’ve got looks and personality,” teacher’s pet, sugary coffee with tons of cream, gets shushed in the library, watches videos while “studying,” writes essays an hour before class
