flight rising 2014 moodboard
A guide to this thing:
Flight Rising Legacy Challenge: A mostly tumblr-based activity where you hatched an Unhatched Egg as a starting point and then had 10 generations to breed a dragon with nice colors and genes. There were rules, like only using a mate of the same element, which could be very difficult in the original auction house (no fancy search filters). You were only supposed to use the “first born” of each generation and there was a scoring system for what genes you acquired. This often led very naturally to the lineage having a lot of Lore and IC interactions with other lineages, which was a lot of fun.
Tomo and Scribbles: This feature was added in 2014, and this shows their original art! (Art was updated to its current form in 2021)
Bears Repeating: Bears were the theme of the second year of festival familiars (chosen by a poll for the next years theme which included other options like salamanders). Their “phony” versions as well as the normal bears were one of the only things you were able to acquire in the first Night of the Nocturne chests, and they returned in the next years’, which led to everyone having so, so many bears. They remained in the notn pool until being moved to Joxars Spare Inventory in 2018 after a public poll by admins showed we were tired of them lol
Color Wheel 2014: This is what the complete color wheel looked like in 2014! There were only 67 colors and we just lived like that! That was increased to 177 for the 2016 anniversary update, an anniversary update that will go down in history as the best ever.
Night of the Nocturne 2014: you had to be there
No, ok so this was the very first notn, an event which introduced Nocturnes, the third ever new breed. The hype was immense and even if the event mechanics itself hadn’t been a strain on the website, the amount of people would have been. As it is, the chest drop system was very different from modern times, with people easily having to open more than a thousand boxes on a very slow website (having to watch that little loading circle for collective hours and hours lol). The chance for something good to drop was minuscule, with all the “fodder” drops being present in the pool (the food and trinket items that enemies just drop now). You also had to catch swipp at a good time to trade in those items for more boxes. This is where the bear trauma really started lol. I’m sure there’s a more thorough write up of the history of this event somewhere. It was a real formative event for the community.
IriShimCircuit: back in 2014 we didn’t have any fancy shmancy color changing genes. We didn’t even have Glimmer yet. We only had 67 colors to work with. This was The Eyeburner dragon. It was basically as bright and colorful as you could get, and it was EVERYWHERE.
Swipp 2014: this was his old art! Used to just be ol Swipp and his cart. Pipp and Tripp (and their two additional trades) were added October 2015 (in time for notn 2015)
Scrying Workshop: This feature was added in April 2014! It was kind of a surprise, since there had been a mention by one of the admins at some point that they liked that things were more mysterious (like offspring color/gene chances). Before the scrying workshop, there used to be people who would buy all of the available gene scrolls and offer their services for gene previews, where the person had to actually send over their dragon to have them previewed. And we had to walk uphill to school both ways.
Words on the Wind: this was the devlog! At one point it was monthly! That’s pretty much it, eventually it got replaced by Dev Updates, which happen a few times a year. Here’s an example of one.
this is what I was expecting btw. I am completely and irreversibly chicken brained.

I wish in Flight Rising we could queue a few hours worth of items to brew/spin and a few hours worth of digging tasks. Doesn't even have to be like a lot but I've got work, I can't check FR every 15-20 minutes to reset everything.
Hell for brewing/spinnning I would be happy enough if I could have it take a stack of the same item even if it still did them one at a time.
Bone Collectors
While clans all over Sorneith are beginning to accept the little creatures already living among them, more and more is beginning to be found out about these tiny beasts.
Thorntails are well known for hoarding, this is true, but some Thorntails have shown preferences for what they hoard. Most simply hoard treasure, the sparkles every dragon desires, but some had more particular tastes. Thorntails hoarding exclusively gems, clay tablets, bandanas, comic books! Among those was recorded a specific group, hailing from the Boneyard. Thorntails who had a particular interest in bones! Whether sun-bleached, yellowed, or ash-stained, these little gremlins collect bones and even wear them!
Will these tiny collectors find a home in your lair?
