I wish venting online was appropriate and that I didn’t have to be around snakes so much. Damn fucking damn. But vague is all I get.
Stephanie Devine was born prematurely at 29 weeks in 2010. As a result, she suffered of complications that resulted in a lack of oxygen to the brain and cerebral palsy. She underwent occupational therapy to improve her motor skills and had a daily dose of medication which would help prevent infections.
On the 13th of July, 2012, her mother, Brandy Devine put Stephanie in her crib and closed the door. Despite the fact that Stephanie needed constant attention, Brandy would later say she didn’t open the bedroom door again until three days later. She had spent the past three days smoking methamphetamine. When she checked on Stephanie, unsurprisingly, she was dead. She had been closed inside a bedroom with four cats, no medication and no food or water.
Brandy told police that when she put Stephanie to bed that she had a slight temperature. Moreover, she said she had expected her other 6-year-old daughter to take care of Stephanie and feed her. “I don’t think it would have caused her death,” said Brandy in relation to not giving Stephanie her medication for three days. A pathologist determined that she had died from dehydration and malnourishment; her skin was red from lack of water and her abdomen was so caved that her spine was visible. The pathologist also determined that she had been dead for a day or two when found on the 16th of July.
During her interrogation, Stephanie said she had $400 left on her Electronic Benefit Transfer card. Despite this, she hadn’t purchased any groceries that weekend and also told police she could only feed her children once a week because she didn’t have transportation. “You were able to find dope last night. Why couldn’t you get your kids some food?” said detective Justin Williamson.
Brandy Williams was found guilty and sentenced to 15 years to life in prison.
In 1966, 8-month old David Reimer was being circumcised at a Winnipeg hospital. During the procedure, a general practitioner filling in for the regular surgeon seared the boy’s penis with an electric cauterising machine. His penis was so badly burned that it eventually fell off.
David’s parents sought advice from Dr. John Money, a sex researcher at a Baltimore hospital. Money decided to use David as an experiment to prove that gender depends on how a child is raised.. Money claimed parental influences and society formed sexual identity. He suggested that the rest of David’s genitals be removed and that he be prescribed female hormones. David would live as a girl, it was determined. His name was changed to “Brenda” and his progress was compared with that of his identical twin, Brian. As they grew older, the differences between the two diminished. “I tried really hard to rear her as a gentle lady but it didn’t work,” said David’s mother.
Despite being dressed in girl’s clothing combined with years of counselling and therapy as well as hormone treatments, David insisted he was a boy. When David was 15-years-old, he learnt about the botched surgery from his father. From that point onward, he rejected further treatment, including an operation that was planned to create a vagina. David underwent surgery to remove his breasts and to construct a penis. He changed his name back to David and eventually went on to get married. He was never able to father children himself but became an outstanding stepfather.
His case created an upheaval in theories on sexual identity. Tragically, on the 4th of May, 2004, David committed suicide by shooting himself in the head.
Christmas of 2007 for the Anderson family would be like nothing they could have imagined in their worse nightmares. For it was this year that Joseph Thomas McEnroe and Michele Kristen Anderson had planned something sinister. On Christmas Eve, Joseph and Michele armed themselves with guns and drove to the home of Wayne and Judy Anderson, Michele’s parents.
Upon entering the family home, they found Judy wrapping Christmas gifts. Michele distracted her mother while Joseph confronted Wayne in the living room. Wayne was shot dead and then Judy was shot dead in the kitchen. Afterwards, Joseph and Michele dragged their bodies to a backyard shed before spending an hour cleaning up the blood. When Michele’s brother, Scott Anderson; his wife, Erica; and their two children, 5-year-old Olivia and 3-year-old Nathan, arrived at the home, they were all gunned down in the living room by both Michele and Joseph. While dying, Erica managed to call 911 but the line quickly went dead.
After murdering he entire family, Michele and Joseph left the home, locking the gate behind them, which effectively turned away the two deputies that would arrive to respond to the 911 call. It wouldn’t be until two days later that the bodies were all found after Judy’s co-worker became concerned when Judy didn’t show up for work or respond to her phone calls. Shortly after police arrived at the scene, Michele and Joseph returned to the property, claiming they had been going to Las Vegas but decided to come back when they got lost. Police became suspicious immediately; neither had enquired why police were at the home or asked about welfare of the family.
Michele eventually confessed to the murders in an attempt to avoid the death penalty. She stated that she was “tired of everybody stepping on” her. Moreover, she became infuriated when her parents had asked her to start paying rent; Michele and Joseph had been living rent free for a year in a mobile home on her parents’ rural land. Both Michelle Anderson and Joseph Thomas McEnroe were sentenced to life in prison.
On Valentine’s Day of 1982, the body of a woman was discovered face down underneath a cedar tree off Interstate 40 near Williams, Arizona. She was white and between 16 to 23-years-old. She stood at 5 feet 4 inches tall and weighed around 120 pounds. She had shoulder-length blonde hair but due to decomposition, her eye colour could not be determined. Due to animal predation, fingerprinting was impossible. She wore a maroon and white striped pullover sweater and “Seasons” brand jeans.
It was determined that she had been strangled or suffocated to death. Since she was found on Valentine’s Day, she became known as “Valentine Sally.” As for identifying features, the woman had some well healed scars on the top of the left foot as well as a 2 inch diagonal scar on the back of her right thigh. She had moles on her chest just above the right breast and a lower right molar had been opened for a root canal.
Valentine Sally was possibly last seen alive at the Monte Carlo Truck Stop in Ashford, Arizona, in the early morning hours of the 4th of February, 1982. She came to the store and asked for aspirin because of a toothache. The cashier estimated her to be 16 or 17-years-old. She was in the company of an older man who appeared to be concerned over her toothache. The cashier didn’t think that anything was awry and assumed the young woman was in the company of a relative.
Valentine Sally was misidentified in 1984 as a young woman from Florida who had ran away from home in 1980. In 1986, however, the young woman returned home alive and well. The DNA of Valentine Sally was placed into a national database but came back negative for any matches. Valentine Sally still remains unidentified.

6-year-old Katherine Korzilius was the daughter of Paul Korzilius, the tour manager for Bon Jovi. She took ballet lessons as well as swimming and soccer lessons. At home, she liked to draw and build homes for bugs that she found in the garden.
On the 7th of August, 1996, Katherine, her mother, Nancy, and her brother, Chris, 9, had been running errands. They went to the math tutor, went to Subway for lunch, and then went to buy Paul some golf clubs for his birthday. On the way home, Nancy stopped at the cluster of post boxes at the top of the road near their house on Elder Circle, Austin, Texas. Maybe she was bored and fidgety from sitting in the car most of the day, but Katherine asked Nancy if she could walk back home from the post box. It was only several houses away so Nancy agreed.
When Katherine didn’t return, Nancy and Chris went searching for her. They discovered her face down on the asphalt around six houses down from their own in the opposite direction of where she was supposed to go. She was unconscious. Nancy scooped her up in her arms and drove 25 minutes to Seton Medical Center. It was discovered that Katherine had suffered a head injury that had fractured her skull. She passed away at the hospital seven hours later.
An autopsy initially ruled out a hit-and-run because Katherine suffered no other broken bones or internal injuries. He said that the small scrapes and bruises on her elbows, knees and hands suggested that she had fallen - perhaps from a car. A K-9 unit was able to pick up Katherine’s scent in an abandoned lot which was around thirty yards from the post boxes. Nancy has long believed that somebody abducted and murdered Katherine and then laid her out to be found.
Bon Jovi would later release a song titled “August 7, 4:15,” which is about the death of Katherine which still remains unsolved.

I remember when I was doing Rent and I was too thin, and I was doing that on purpose because I’m dying, I’m a HIV+ drug addict. I remember having to eat raw food and doing all this work to make sure I could stay thin…And I remember everyone asking when I was doing press for the movie, ‘What did you do to get so thin? You looked great’ and I’m like, ‘I look emaciated’…It’s a form of violence, in the way that we look at women and how we expect them to look and be– for what sake? Not health, not survival, not enjoyment of life, but just so you can look pretty. I’m constantly telling girls all the time everything is airbrushed, everything is retouched to the point it’s never even asked. None of us look like that. - Rosario Dawson
Bobby Äikiä was a 10-year-old boy from Sweden that was abused and murdered by his mother, Niina Äikiä and her boyfriend, Eddy Larson. Bobby was born with Fragile X syndrome. Shortly after Larson moved in with Niina, the systematic torture and abuse of Bobby began. He was beaten with sticks, burned with cigarettes and electricity, hit in the genitals with a wooden stick and a vacuum cleaner used on his genitals with such force that blood was found inside the hose. He would be tied to a chair while naked and placed outside in the snow and freezing cold temperatures.
On the 14th of January, 2006, Bobby was reported missing by his mother who claimed that he had disappeared after visiting a shopping center. Eventually she broke down and confessed to what had happened to Bobby. She said that Bobby had been found dead in his bed after one particularly brutal beating. Afterwards, they dumped his body in the woods before panicking that he would be found. They retrieved his body and instead, disposed of him in a nearby take.
An investigation revealed that Larson had a particular interest in sadomasochism and violent porn. He had been charged with rape twice. According to Bobby’s teacher, he had spoken frequently about sex and his mother being constantly drunk. Despite these alarming conversations from a boy at such a young age, nothing was ever followed up.
Neither Niina or Eddy were convicted of murder. Instead, they were charged with gross maltreatment and gross assault. They were both released in 2012. Bobby’s murder led to the introduction of the Lex Bobby Law which outlines responsibilities of people working with children to report suspected abuse.
