Tell my muse "You're not a monster" and see how they react.
Alternately: Tell them “You’re a monster” and see how they react.
“I was quiet; but I was not blind.” Jane Austen
(via thepersonalwords)
how do you get your soft, italicized 'oh' moment?
the missed opportunity
this one comes with a pang. it is the wrinkled brow of something unpleasant sinking in. they've left to find some new adventure. or they've met someone else. and you have only just begun to understand their true importance to you. you watch them drift toward a future without you, and in that stark numbness of their absence, it hits you. Oh. oh, you want them close. you hopelessly, selfishly want them all to yourself. you'll support them no matter what, but you don't want them to want a future that doesn't involve you. you want them to read the near-invisible signs of your love and decide to take a chance on you. you never want to say that you *used* to know each other. so what are you going to do?

The new moon wasn’t among Tatsumi’s favorite nights. In lieu of the respite of having to acknowledge his father’s face in the night sky, his health and vitality dropped severely in exchange. Not only was he a solely human, but a weak and sickly one as well. Anyone who would observe Tatsumi wouldn’t see his usual luminescence. His ethereal nature. Just dry, straw-like, gray hair, sunken eyes, and translucent, paper skin, as this priestess seemed to do.
He greets her with a weary smile. “I’m quite alright, miss priestess. I just needed a moment’s rest ‘pon this fallen log. I’ve travelled far, so fatigue comes most natural.”
Be clearly aware of the stars and infinity on high. Then life seems almost enchanted after all.

The devil doesn’t come dressed in a red cape and pointy horns. He comes as everything you’ve ever wished for.

Like all hanyou, Tatsumi has a period where his youkai blood diminishes and turns him human for a period.
Predictably, his period is directly related to the phases of the moon, within his father’s realm. His vampiric abilities are strongest and more controllable during nights of the full moon, and during the new moon, he becomes human.
Tatsumi’s human nights are difficult in the sense that the energy he consumes in hanyou form doesn’t stay with him during this time either, and he becomes considerably weaker, even by human standards. His fatigue presents itself similar to a sort of anemia (Cold skin, irregular heartbeat, sleeping spells).
The only true change to his physical characteristics is the loss of his ethereal / enchanting aura. His skin appears a little thinner, and his hair loses its shine and dries out like straw.
During these nights, Tatsumi generally attempts to keep a low profile during these nights, looking to hide indoors or even seek help in villages. On nights where people host him, he leaves them with a small fortune the next morning as thanks for their generosity, and generally without staying long enough to say goodbye.
A Demon Slayer verse for Tatsumi would include him being a demon, but evolving into a strain or mutation that feeds from humans through barely coming into contact with him.
Ideally, his cells are able to produce microscopic parasites that would drain humans of blood and near-instantly produce spores that he can reabsorb back into his body through only proximity. The parasites die instantly, and only are able to consume so much blood, but across tens or hundreds of people, the effects would be unnoticeable.
It’d only be if Tatsumi spends too much time with the same humans or wilfully spawns more parasites that they could become a noticeable problem. The effects can be as noticeable as decreased immune function, anemia, or in the most severe cases, necrosis or disintegration.

Her eyes widened a fraction. Yes, of course. She’d heard murmurs amongst courtiers when they gossiped, but Serenity was never much for malicious rumors. She spent most of her time with her guardians rather than the denizens of the court, but she’d heard a thing or two here and there. A term had been used to describe him. Half-blood. Lunarians and Terrans were forbidden from one another, so his existence was scandalous in itself, but Serenity didn’t really understand why it was a bad thing. After all, he was still a person, like herself and everyone else.
And he’d even lived on Earth.
“I’m sorry that she wasn’t able to join you here… I don’t know what I’d do without my mother so I can’t imagine being without one.” She offered sincerely. She didn’t ask him to elaborate on what happened to his mother even though she sorely wanted to. Her etiquette training told her that it would be indelicate to do so though, especially since she didn’t know how sensitive he was about the topic. But there was one thing she did let her curiosity get the better of her on, so she asked, with some hesitation, “Do you remember what the festivals were like? Are they very different than the celebrations here?”
She’d felt the wind, smelled the salt of the ocean breeze (even if she wasn’t able to go to the shore itself, they would have been far too noticeable there even in the darkness of night) but she had not been to a festival on Earth yet. Her rendezvous on Earth were usually spent privately in carefully chosen locations. Even though she longed to experience more of Earth, with the paleness of her, well, everything, she would stand out like a sore thumb anywhere there. So being able to speak to someone when she was actually at home made her just a little excitable, “Oh! And do you remember snow? What is it really like? Are all the snowflakes really different from one another?”
Tatsumi smiled wryly again. “Ah, you don’t have to feel too badly over it. It wasn’t as though Yuriko was a paragon of virtue. She certainly wasn’t anything like the queen.” Well, what else could he say about a woman who attempted to seduce his father for a shot at immortality? She wasn’t a hateful mother to her son, but she wasn’t entirely warm to Tatsumi, either. The most she could say was she treated him like he was her voucher towards greater things.
“Well, I couldn’t say for other regions, but the festivals in the village back home were charming and rustic. Not as stiff as they are up here, with the raiments and the strict etiquette. Some went from the afternoons and well into the night, with pyres and grilled meats. Cake, if you were lucky.”
“The snow is dreadfully cold. Winter wasn’t my favorite season, but there was a beauty to be found. At a distance, it’s like thick blankets, but up close, they’re little unique crystals, all lying on top of one another.”

bonus if you add narrative, reason, scenarios, details, etc to give the receiver something more to work off of. ( can be anything from a hair ruffle, to fixing hairs that are out of place, to stroking their hair to comfort them, and anything in between. )
chxmpionofjustice:
At the mention of the Earth, Serenity’s gaze followed his and her nerves seemed to melt away. He was right. There were hardly any clouds to block the view of the beautiful blue and green that made of the colors of Earth. And one could in fact see most of the ocean. A deep, mesmerizing blue that she could fall into… Like the color of–
Redness suddenly bloomed on her cheeks, but she smiled, still admiring the beautiful planet in the sky. “You’re right… It looks beautiful…”
She noticed the tone in his voice and looked back him curiously before giving a cursory glance around (just in case, after all, the moon palace did have guards) before she leaned in just a smidge, lowering her voice, “Have you… Have you ever been there? To Earth?”
Nope. Serenity’s romance with Endymion was not in question. One would have to be either stupid or unobservant not to really sense that, and few people up here were, save perhaps to themselves.
At the question, Tatsumi looked at her, a wry smile playing his lips. “My mother was from earth, remember?” He said, amused she seemed to forget his status as a half-blood. It wasn’t something people seemed to fail to remind him of, whenever conversation with the rest of the courts came up. “She never made it up here, but I remember some of my childhood with her. I remember the sounds of wind in the trees, and the smell of the sea. I remember drums at the festival, the strong, deep beat. The music up here doesn’t hold a fraction of the same undercurrent of passion. Too delicate, and too precise.”
He watches the sky again. “It’s not perfect, but I’d consider that a part of the appeal.”
chxmpionofjustice:
“Me? O-oh, nothing! I just had trouble resting… I thought a walk around the gardens might help.” Such a terrible liar she was. She was out for a walk indeed, but to a place far beyond the gardens.
Tatsumi nods. He imagined the princess was up to her own clandestine rendezvous tonight. Not that it was a secret or anything. Half the kingdom had some scandal or another going on. Really, it was more the practice of pretending any of them had secrets worth protecting, more often than not. A game that was both tedious and shallow, like most of them here...
“It’s a beautiful night for it.” He looks back up at Earth, giant and aglow in the sky. “The skies are clear on earth. You can see most of the ocean there.” He points out wistfully.
chxmpionofjustice:
“You’re out late…”
“There’s less people out at night.” Tatsumi reasons. “Not by much, but there’s generally more breathing room.”
He glances towards her. “What brings yourself out this night, Princess?”
Send me a very scandalous rumor about my muse to see how they would react.
