Reflect on the story of Tyr and Fenrir: how all the dwarves knew they were deceiving Fenrir and were not willing to risk injury to themselves, forcing Tyr to step up and uphold an oath he knew would result in injury to himself. This week, others may try to put you in such a position. Don't give in. Perhaps you feel like you'd be making the sacrifice for the greater good as Tyr did. However, it is not helpful to anyone if you risk injury to yourself. Binding Fenrir did not stop Ragnarök from coming. Your sacrifice will not stop others from doing whatever shady shit they're doing. You need to focus on being well and dealing with your own work and upholding your own oaths. Not the false oaths of others who refuse to accept the consequences of their actions. Make them deal with their own matters themselves. If you deal with it for them, you risk losing something significant to you for no real reason. Not all sacrifices need to be made by you or at your expense. Don't put yourself in a position of potentially major regret because no one was willing to take the fall for their own deceptions and lies.

My Witch First Of The Month Rituals

note: I like to do these things at the beginning of the month, also because a clear day helps me with consistency, but it doesn't mean that you can't do them any other day!

1: blowing cinnamon through the door

It's probably the only one that it's traditionally done on the first of the month (again, traditionalli, doesn't mean you can't do it on the 2nd if you forget!)

What is it for: to invite abundance

How you do it: you put a bit of cinnamon on your left hand (left hand to attract, right to release) and blow it though your front door from the outside (aka you are outside and looking to the inside)

If you don't have a private front door (ex. if you have non witch roommates), you can do this with your private room door!

2. salt wards

Since I am already working with my front door, I also take the chance to re-do my wards with salt!

What is it for: protection

How you do it: you sprinkle salt, with the intention of protection, right outside your front door and outside all the windows.

Again, if you have only a private room, you can do it outside of your room!

Tip for witches in the broom closet: if you have a doormat (or carpet outside your door) you can use it to hide the salt!

3. door, mirrors and windows rune/sigil

The second phase of the wards is to lock the mirrors and, optionally, windows (I like to do it especially with franch windows!) and add protection to the door

What is it for: protection again!

How you do it: dip your finger in moon water and write a sigil you made for protection or a protecting rune (I use Algiz) on your front door (or, again, your private room door), your mirrors and your windows

Note for witches in the broom closet: the rune/sigil can still be seen, with the right light, especially on the mirrors and curtains!

Note for everyone: this is my way to do this, but it doesn't mean that it's useless to do just one thing without the others! And of course you can totally customize the process!

Traditional English and German methods of cleansing bad energy from a home.

Sweep with a Witch's Broom. Take a broom and energetically "sweep" bad energy from the home. Start at the back and sweep towards the front door while visualizing negative energy leaving the house.

Burning Herbs. Commonly: rosemary, thyme, lavender, sage, juniper, or mugwort. Waft the smoke in every corner of the house, especially in winter months.

Bread and Salt. These items are symbols of abundance and protection. Place them in plain view in the kitchen. Sprinkle salt in the corners of rooms and along thresholds. After some time sweep the salt up and discard outside the home.

Bells and Chimes. Ring a bell in each room to disperse stagnant energy.

Iron Protection. Hang iron items around your home. Most commonly this is a horseshoe hung above your front door with the open end facing up to "catch" good energy and blessings.

Runic Protection. Runes like Algiz (left, for protection) and Sowilo (right, for cleansing) are drawn with chalk or carved into wooden charms and placed around the home.

Some little things I've learned over a decade of witchcraft:

If you are feel called to work but are tired/drained, sit outside. Take in all the energies around you. Nature can help charge you

Every witch does a little bit of a bunch of types of magic but sticks mainly to one or two in general. You usually won't be eclectic forever. You'll find what magics work best with you.

Never be lazy or cut corners with spirits. Always be respectful and always tell them to leave when you're done

When you see a plant or ingredient with a long list of properties, there are different things at play. Season of collection, the part of the plant, the health of the plant, etc all play a role in impacting which properties it will carry.

Don't call on spirits unless you have confidence and control

Be careful with sea/water magic. Get into it gently and slowly until you have the energy figured out because it can get out of hand quickly.

Adding a little pinch of magic into your breakfast can make a major difference in your day.

Your personal emotions/feelings over something will impact a work

Planting some plants is good, not only to have a garden, but the dirt helps cleanse you too. Get all dirty and muddy. It's good for ya

Not all trees are nice

The more you listen to your intuition, the easier it will be to tell it apart from your anxieties and worries

Incense is very easy to make which is why it's usually cheap to buy. But you can find a million tutorials online on how to make your own personal incense which is great if you want a spell to take effect over a while but also want to infuse the fire energy in it.

The more you work with something the better feel you get for it. Cinnamon goes in almost everything i cook and most of my spells because me and cinnamon just get right along

Your path is yours and no one else's. It will look like yours and no one else's

Key Magick

Keys have very specific magickal symbology and are of great importance in many practices. Keys are representational of unlocking, road opening, wisdom, protection, higher consciousness, different realms/dimensions, and ancient knowledge.

To use a key in your magickal practice you must first assign it a purpose. This can be done through energy work, chanting, meditation, etc. Once this is complete you can keep the enchanted key on your person, your altar, hung over a doorway, use it in spellwork, etc.

Uses:

• Wear a key as jewelry to discover wisdom.

• A gold key wards against the evil eye.

• Three keys on a chain bring health, wealth, and love.

• A key will bring good luck as long as it does not fit any lock you own.

• Wear an old key to discover a secret or find a lost object.

• Keys as jewelry promote fertility.

• A door key placed upside down near the bed will banish nightmares and ensure a peaceful night's sleep.

• Touch a key to each door and window while willing away negative forces, then hang by a red string over the hearth.

• The clinking sound of keys may emulate the ringing of a bell and can be used to cleanse a space.

• Wear a key to earn the auspices of gatekeeper spirits.

• A key may also be buried at a crossroads with an offering, asking for the doors to fortune be unlocked.

• Keys can be used to remove mental blockages and aid meditation.

• If the key has a padlock, it can be used in binding rituals. To bind a lover, have them secretly walk over a padlock and then lock it out of their sight.

I’ve been seeing a lot of posts around social media talking about people hearing the call of Hekate, The Morrigan, and Lilith.

I’m not here to dissuade any of that, just want to remind my fellow pagans and witches that there are a plethora of other deities you can work with in regards to what we’re all currently going through and anticipated to go through.

As a Hellenic Polytheist here are some of my suggestions:

Aphrodite (especially her war side, yes Aphrodite has a war side)

Ares (THE feminist of the pantheon, I will die on that hill)

Artemis (protector of women and children, killer of dickheads, a witch, and a primal goddess. Don’t sleep on her!)

Athena (THE strategist. She’s going to lead you to the path of victory)

Dionysus (THE revolutionist. Dionysus is the destroyer of empires and harbinger of change. Especially in regard to women. Their maenads are lethal to men who try to oppress and suppress them)

Eris (MY GIRL! I mean this bitch started the Trojan War with an Apple. Do I need to say more??)

Demeter (Also a witch and single handedly brought two of the 3 kings to their knees and almost destroyed the entire world because she went against the patriarchy. This is the goddess you want to fight alongside of in this battle! Stop sleeping on her!)

Hera (Arguably the most terrifying deity in the entire pantheon. Even Zeus is terrified of her. She lead the Greeks to victory in the Trojan War using her rage, spite, and power. And she can do the same for us!)

There are of course other deities especially in other pantheons. And you can absolutely and should lean on the deities you already have relationships with. This is just a suggestion in case you would like to connect with a new deity for the collective work we are preparing to do.

Sweet Dreams (top left page)

This spell bag prevents nightmares and encourages a deep restful sleep. This spell also protects the user from attacks while they sleep.

Fill a small bag or pouch with the following herbs:

Lavender

Chamomille

Rosemary

Thyme

Valerian

Passion Flower

Add a lock of the user’s hair and then bind the bag closed with string. Tie two silver bells to the ends of the string and embroider the sigil below [meaning “I am protected while I sleep”] onto the spell bag. Place below the pillow of the user.

Refresh every month under the light of the new moon

With A Pinch Of Salt (top right page)

For those who have been hurt by love [and] do not wish to fall in love binded by sweet promises and lies. This spell will help you take everything with a pinch of salt and be a bit more savvy with choosing future romantic partners

Cut an apple from top to toe using a silver blade. Coat one side of the (inside of the) apple with salt and pepper. Coat the other half with honey. Then bind the two halves of the apple together using a red ribbon. Now bury the apple in the back left corner of your garden.

Location Spell (bottom left page)

To find that which has been lost. This spell is designed to locate both objects and people.

Draw a map of the area where you think the lost item may be. Place an “x” on the map where you remember having seen the person/item last. If you are looking over a large area, place four candles at cardinal points on the math (North, South, East and West). Once the candles are placed, light them in the following order: North, East, South, West [clockwise].

Let the pendelum swing over the map. As it circles the map, visualize the person or the item glowing in its hiding place. Look where the pendulum is focused. That is where the lost item/person is.

Prosperity Powder (bottom right page)

To draw wealth, prosperity, and success to the user. This powder can be sprinkled onto a burning candle, dusted around your home or workplace, or even added to a hot bath.

Grind and combine:

Eggshells (for protection, prosperity, and good fortune)

Sage (for helping you make wise decisions)

Bay Leaves (for prosperity and success)

Basil (for wealth and success)  &

Peppermint (for money, prosperity, and abundance)

I wear an obsidian bracelet on my right wrist to give cleansing and protection to my environment I’m in and I wear a hematite and pentacle ring on my left to receive the same back. It’s like a constant flow of protective and cleansing energy. I’m not sure if others do this but I do and it works. ☺️

Witch tip:

One of my favorite ways to cast a spell is to write my intentions on paper (bonus points if u add runes or sigils) and fold it up with corresponding herbs inside. Then, I burn the newly made "spell packet" in a metal cauldron or other fire safe dish while speaking my intentions out loud. It's a quick, easy way to cast spells: great for busy baddies on the go who don't always have time to sit watching over candles.

Tarot Cheat Sheet in Excel

Several people have requested Tarot Cheat Sheet posts from me and I’ve never really felt comfortable writing that kind of content. I really do think that Tarot needs to be built on your own understanding of the world, at least in part. I’ve been toying with the idea of doing posts on how I would go about compiling a cheat sheet if I were to but that felt like a lot of repetition with what I’ve already written about. 

However, someone - please let me know who you are so I can credit you - mentioned that they had a spreadsheet in Excel similar to the layout I feature in my Stop Reading Tarot Cards like Flash Cards post. It got me thinking because truthfully that would likely be the way I’d go about making a tarot cheat sheet - it’s visual, it’s searchable, and it’s flexible. 

So I took a little time to compile empty versions of the type of spreadsheet that I would use in case others wanted to use it as well. 

Keep in mind these are built with my framework. If they don’t work for you - change them! Upload your own version (though it’d be nice if you’d credit me if it’s built mostly on the one I set up) so others can learn from you too. 

I made these with the idea that you could plug in other people’s interpretation of a card in one row and write your own in another underneath it. That way you could compile various cheat sheets and sources and still write your own impressions. I think that last part is the most important. Part of doing intuitive work is learning to trust our own impressions as valid and worthwhile. 

With that in mind, I likely will be writing some posts with cheat sheet material you can plug into this. Not sure when precisely that will be but, soon hopefully. 

Use this one if you’re working with a deck that doesn’t use Rider-Waite titles for cards (you still might have to edit it, but there will be a lot less deleting and retyping this way).
