F2P (Steam) games I'd recommend (no spoilers)

Sheepy: A short adventure – a 2D pixel-art platformer with stunning visuals, amazing gameplay, flawless soundtrack and great challenges + achievements. The story itself is a bit dark, so I like to think about this game as old Kirby's indie emo cousin. I'd recommend playing on a controller bc pc controls are a bit scuffed imo (I played with a PS5 controller)

Reverse:1999 – a gacha game, yes, but one of the most f2p gacha games I've ever played. The story is complex but entirely understandable, and characters are interesting and diverse. It's more of a story-focused type of game, with a spin on turn-based gameplay. While many characters are female, this game has almost no unnecessary fanservice (looking at you, Hoyo games) and its character designs are beautiful. Characters have clear cultural backgrounds, with many wearing traditional clothes. There are also many "unconvential" designs. Overall amazing game, better than both genshin and hsr imo

Saihate Station – tw: this game is a psychological horror about unhealthy/obsessive relationships, with blood, gore and physical and mental violence. There aren't many jumpscares (coming from an absolute coward, loud/sudden jumpscares make me cry), but please beware.

That said, I finished this game multiple times and got every ending. Incredibly unsettling and creepy, and the setting hides the true horror of the story. Everything seems confusing and unrelated at first, but things get revealed bit by bit. Also an interactive game, and choices REALLY matter. Twilight Railway DLC is available on Steam for €6.89 (I have not played it yet), but the base game is free

Doki Doki Literature Club – an oldie but a goodie. Again, tw: this game is a psychological horror, and definitely contains jumpscares (one of which made me freeze irl). This game contains blood, gore and violence, as well as manipulation and obsessive characters, as well as depictions of mental health issues, self-harm, abuse and suicide. Please beware.

I love this game because it's such a good twist on the typical yandere genre. The story is incredibly well thought out, and it makes the visual novel genre more interesting and engaging. Its horror is incredibly focused on visual and sound cues, hence why the soundtrack is so important. Doki Doki Literature Club Plus is available (on Steam) for €14.99. As far as I'm aware, it expands on the characters and gives a new story (see this Game Theory video about it if you're curious, but beware of spoilers), although I have not played it myself

Artists/songs I'd recommend

Alexander Rybak – Famous for Fairytale, that won Eurovision 2009. His songs always feature a violin (he's mainly a violinist), so definitely check his music out if you're a fan of violins. The melodies are amazing and I find his voice to be incredibly charming and calming.

Specific songs I'd recommend: Fairytale, Europe's Skies, If You Were Gone

Faouzia – An amazing singer with an incredible voice and vocal range. Imo one of the best voices in music right now. Her songs are incredibly powerful, and, while she mostly sings in English, she also has songs in French and Arabic

Specific songs I'd recommend: Porcelain, Peace & Violence, Tears of Gold

Flavor Foley – A trio of Vocaloid/SynthV producers who have made some iconic songs. While their style changes every song, their lyrics are always genius, exploring many different topics wonderfully. Their tuning is always amazing and so are the mvs

Specific songs I'd recommend: Ego Renegade Boy, Human, Water the Roses

This specific cover/rearrangement of Magnet by Bagus Eleven (original by Minato) – Everything, from the tuning to the instrumental, is great. Gumi and Teto's SynthV versions work incredibly well together, and the instrumental has references too. Overall my favorite version of this Vocaloid classic

Lost Media by MonochroMenace ft. Gumi SynthV2 – a (depressing) alt rock banger that is based on the artist's own experiences and feelings. I relate to this song as well, too much sometimes, and this song is very cathartic to me

okay for all my fellow lords who are also mourning the eos termination, avillon_archive on twt and their team + many helpers and volunteers have gathered all the resources they could to create an archive website for the game !! (link to archive at the end of the post just so we can run through some things before you go into it blind ^^) this has been in the works since quite a while before the shut down, and they are still actively updating what they can after the termination, so there might be more things added !!

the page is in korean, but you can toggle it to english by clicking on the 3 lines at the top and scrolling to the bottom where it says ‘KO’, where you can switch between korean, english, and japanese. when entering the main story sections, there will be a text box labelled ‘닉네임’, which is where you can enter your name (or your loh account name for nostalgia) and it will change ‘Lord’ to whatever you typed in it !!

some content might still be in korean, but a large part is translated, including all of the main story and war of thrants from what i can tell, so you can use a translator for the remainder or wait and see if they will update it with the en translations !!

overall, a LOT of work has been put into this to keep an archive of the entire game by fellow fans, so let’s never forget their hard work and the journey this game has taken us on 🥹

hello !! i just wanted to address your tags and say that you /can/ change between the two lords !! there will be a lord icon in some sections that will have the default female lord, and if you click it you can calter the appearance (like how you could in game with the hairstyles, hair colours, and skin colours) and you can also change the gender !!

i’m not entirely sure if it will alter voice, but you can test and see if there are any alterations with this ^^

I've been playing Lord of Heroes since it launched globally. I literally pre-registered for it. I played for 6 years nearly every day, and now I won't be playing it at all anymore.

This game helped me through hard times in life. It might sound stupid, but it really did. If I had a bad epidose, I'd play LoH and that would calm me down. That game was so dear to me that some of my most drawn OCs are based on it.

It had its flaws, of course. The plot became too overcomplicated, and the arc with the Far East was underwhelming and ended up incomplete. Despite its promises of not becoming a gacha, it did (and it was pretty trash). Some features and mechanics were annoying at best, the Elemental Obelisk was dull and repetitive compared to the original one, some things were reworked for no reason and made worse. But, ultimately, I still loved it.

Its story, at its core, was interesting, and the characters were amazing. The dialogues were written well, the character interactions helped develop nearly every single one, and some of my favorite characters of all time are from this game.

When I got the notice that it would shut down, I immediately started archiving and taking as many notes and screenshots as I could, because I never want to forget this game. I never want to forget how it made me feel. I never want to forget its premise, its story, its characters.

I feel a bit hollow now. A part of me, no matter how small it might seem, is missing. Again, it sounds so stupid, but I actually do grieve the loss of this game.

I hope that I'll be able to overcome this hollow feeling without forgetting the game. I know I will, but right now it feels so far away.

I love this game, and I forever will. Thank you for 6 wonderful years.
