life update #1
We. Got. An. APARTMENT. This is so scary and so cool all at the same time. I’ve been working two very promising jobs and my career in both has been persistently growing. I’ve been saving. I’ve been thriving. I’ve bought soooo many things for our new little nest. There are loads of other things I’m probably forgetting to buy, but I’ll get those when I think of them. The apartment is soooo cute. The floors are all real wood. They creak a bit if you walk on certain spots. I have my own studio/office for work. We have an itty bitty kitchen that I’m gonna fill with plants. We have a really nice dining room. We have a great living room. We have an enormous bedroom. We have a bathroom that’s triple the size of a normal one. We have an upstairs that’s all ours. There’s a laundry room up there, and a rather large terrace that I’m planning to put plants in and grow veggies. I wanna put my painting supplies up there and paint outside. We have a gorgeous view of the nearby mountain reserve. Our new home is so cozy and so perfect for us and for the next 3 years of our lives. This is our test-the-waters house. Our in-between house. The starter. I’m excited about buying a house further into the future but right now I’m just taking in all of these new feelings! ADULTHOOD. RESPONSIBILITIES. BILLS. I’m lucky to have 2 incredible jobs that I LOVE in a town where only half the population works. This is partly because I speak English, and so there are more opportunities for me, I’ll admit. I know I’m privileged when it comes to that. But I’m also really really young, and I’ve worked hard to get where I am. I have so many things going on, so many projects. It’s summer now so I’ve got 3 whole months of vacation. This is where I pour myself into my second job. Which is quickly becoming a big thing. If it isn’t on par with my first one, it’s definitely turning out to be much more rewarding. I must admit though, I do miss some of my students. I am excited about returning in October and starting fresh, with a whole year of experience under my belt. And a new apartment!!!!

HOLY CRAP it’s been a long ass time since I’ve posted anything on here. I feel like I’ve missed out on SOOOO much stuff. I’m so behind. I’m so lost. What’s been going on in the life of my mutuals?? So curious but also scared to ask!??! wtf SO MUCH has been going on with me but I feel like writing about it would jinx it, so I’m gonna avoid doing that until things are SET IN STONE. update me on your liiiiiveeeessss

In 1912 Alfred Wegener proposed a controversial theory about how the Earth’s land masses formed. He said the great continents had once formed a single landmass, which had broken up over time. The idea went against all conventional ideas, and was roundly dismissed.
It took the work of young cartographer Marie Tharp to prove him right.
In 1947, she worked on a team that were running expeditions around the world, mapping the ocean floors with echolocation. However, Marie wasn’t allowed on the missions because women were seen as ‘bad luck’…
But the work she did back at the university was invaluable. Converting endless data into detailed profiles, she realised that the ocean floor isn’t a flat, featureless plane, but a complex, varied landscape.
Most importantly, she spotted a long, V-shaped valley in each of her profiles: a rift valley that supported Wegener’s theory, formed by two land masses moving apart, splitting the ocean floor in two.
But even with this evidence, Tharp’s ideas were dismissed as ‘girl talk’.
She then realised that her profiles tied in with worldwide earthquake maps being developed by a colleague.
The mounting evidence started to convince some sceptics, but not all. Renowned explorer Jacques Cousteau was so unconvinced that he sent an expedition to film the ocean floor and clear things up once and for all. What did his footage show? Exactly what Tharp had predicted.
Tharp’s steadfast determination had paved the way for Wegener’s continental drift theory to gain traction. As the tide of opposition waned, it gave birth to our modern understanding of plate tectonics and secured Tharp’s position as one of the most outstanding cartographers of the 20th century.

Once again I am filled with awe for a brilliant woman and disgust that I’ve never heard her name before today.
Does anyone know why Animal Crossing is doing the thing where it tells you to update to the latest version but then you go to the App store and it’s all up to date so wtf are they talking about?
