I am back
It has been years, but I am back and I will remake my account, see you when I will work on it!
Seeing him like this, talking to an old, familiar friend relieved her immensely, as it proved behind the sometimes crumbling fear, Sullan was still himself. Slowly but surely, Shay began to shake off the worry and the thoughts about the time spent without him. Instead, she focused on the good and positive - a future ahead of them, together. While he spoke with Alma, she had distanced herself some and had begun to wander through the low-built isles of shelves, gaze wandering the various plants basking under the warm light of the sunshine seeping through the windows.
Only his familiar voice ripped her out of the near trance-like state, and Shay straightened herself again after taking a closer look at a nice little tomato plant.
The smile on Sullan’s face was worth a hundred of sun rays for her. “We won’t need that much, just the basics for everything, nothing special,” she responded to his question and picked a few packs of seeds too, swiftly tossing them over for him to either catch, or land in the basket he carried right away.
The smile on her lips widened a little as he seemed to take up the given task. Shay did not mind the fact he was a little unnerved, but she hid her worry in favor of allowing him some normality in this situation. Glancing around, she attempted to spot someone who’d sell what she was looking for, but it was indeed relatively crowded, making it a little difficult. Just as she wanted to lead him into a different direction, Sullan had luckily spotted the shop she searched. Actually, Shay used to know where it was, but she sometimes got a little lost in town, even after all this time.
Following his lead, she assured to remain close, and keep the grasp upon his hand comfortably firm. Entering the shop, her eyes roamed the shelves immediately, looked over the plants, and then it hit her. She forgot to tell him the person who had opened this shop was actually an old friend of his, the woman Shay had encountered two years ago when he first took her to town.
“Sullan?” The elderly, white-haired woman asked in shock as she had seen both of them enter. Shay smiled widely, and released his hand so they could greet each other.
He would have to get used to it again, Shay thought to herself as a brief shimmer of uncertainty seemed to hit Sullan while the two of them moved through the crowd in front of them. Two years could really change the whole situation, the town had flourished, and that might be a little intimidating, had he been living around the area for longer than her.
The list of items they needed to restock their pantry was in her mind, she would buy some new seeds too, for the garden she established, and see what she could do with those. But to answer his question, she shrugged a little. “A little of both, I guess. I broke some bowls the other day and we probably need new ones, as I’ve also experimented some with alchemy lately,” the redhead stated, keeping a tight hold on her lover’s hand.
Shay guided him over the place, taking a look left and right, deciding it might be best to give him some kind of purpose for their visit, give him a task to keep his mind busy. “Can you look for a place that sells herbal seeds maybe?” she asked, eyes wandering back from the crowd and over to him, searching for signs of discomfort. In a reflex, her thumb gently rubbed over the back of his hand, a slight smile showing up on her lips while she looked at him with adoration reflecting in her clear, emerald eyes.
Over the past years, she had indeed adapted most of Sullan’s skills, especially when it came to the spellbook and the usage of the written words on the pages. Shay had practiced a lot, and sometimes it had gone wrong, but nothing ever went as wrong as it did the day he disappeared. Not even the locals could help her back then, but now she was an expert regarding the whole book and every single useful spell in it.
Once both of them had entered the city, her attention was on Sullan. Was he doing fine after traveling through a portal again, after what happened last time? It seemed like it at least, and that soothed her former worry. Her eyes wandered down the alley they had just appeared in, and her grasp around his hand then guided her towards the main road, noisier than he remembered.
“Yeah, the town changed a lot while you were gone, but it has a few benefits. As example, there are some new shops and stores I saw, seems interesting, but at first we need some groceries,” Shay commented, and gestured for him to move on. She figured that he was remembering the way, despite his absence. On her list were various items, they needed food, but they also had to visit the herbalist living on the outskirts a little later.
// Imma kms why does my blog not function.
also hi yes I am alive, just busy with college, part-time job, internship and all that fun
They made their way back to the cabin and entered, no fear of something following, lurking in the shadows, and she was glad about it. After the defeat of the creature which had latched onto her for a while, Shay did not have to turn and observe, she could take every single step with confidence and without any worries.
Once inside, she made for the bedroom and changed into fresh clothing, tossed the slightly dirt-stained pants and jeans into the corner of dirty clothing and dust. Slipping into a simple pair of jeans and a green shirt, she gathered her red curls and tied them together in a ponytail. Sullan would take a little longer, he was busy cleaning himself in the shower, so she could check the fridge and take a mental note on what they needed to get from the town.
Resting on the sofa after checking the kitchen and pantry for what was needed, the redhead closed her eyes for a few moments, and she smiled. Everything would go fine from now on, no one would be able to part Sullan and her ever again, she promised this, and now that they were both recovering, normal activities would start to come naturally again. She already knew what spell they had to use to create a portal to town, and this time, she was going to clutch onto Sullan for dear life, assure that they wouldn’t be parted like this once more.
As he seemed ready, she stood from the sofa and smiled towards him. “ready to go?” Shay asked interested, still a hint of worry in her warm voice however as she spotted how worn he truly looked, even after cleaning himself up.
The comfort of having his arms so naturally wrap around her once again warmed her from the inside out, and her smile widened further with the following gentleness of her lover, the sweet kiss to her forehead, the very light tug she felt in her hair as he toyed with a few strands. Sullan had agreed to leave their forest for a while and head into town, Shay really welcomed the change of scenery, and they could use the stop to retrieve some important things, maybe even get a job, though she had put Sullan under quarantine for a few weeks.
“Very well,” Shay responded to him with a nod too, holding the contact between them a little longer before she slowly, and very carefully, wound herself out of his grasp.
“We are done here I believe, that should have been all traps. I did not put up many, just these few,” the redhaired explained, glancing around once more to make sure she did not miss a trap, well hidden beneath bushes or covered by different types of green. “Let’s head back, prepare for our little trip and maybe get some other things done,” she suggested and glanced back at Sullan, green eyes attentively looking him over before she smiled gently. “Whenever you are ready, that is.”
There was no need for her to ask twice, as they really did not have much to do around this corner in the woods, and they would waste a little daylight too. Shay would clean up her wound again, change the bandage, and then start preparing for their trip to town.
Shay noticed his peculiar tone, and her expression immediately softened. He did not deserve this torture, the after-effects of his hard time away from this forest, away from safety. She felt sorry for him, for the fact all of this had happened, and that she gave up searching. However, nothing would change the outcome, so the redhaired pushed her guilt away, and instead focused on Sullan. On the tiny scratches on his face, the expression, the way the sun reflected in his eyes.
“I love you too, Sullan,” she responded just as soft, leaning up some to press a tender kiss to the tip of his nose. “You are fine, yes? As long as you are here with me you will always be fine,” the female hunter promised, and she gave this promise not only to him but to herself.
While the two of them stood there, in an intimate embrace of warmth and love, she did not want to be the one to break the contact, solely for the reason that he had been gone so long, and that he seemed to be in need of this. His reaction proved it, and rose worries deep down in her, yet, she swallowed them, reassuring herself to emit nothing but positivity.
“Hey,” Shay began, her lips curling upwards into a smile, “What do you think about us going to town later? I bet it will get your mind off of things, we can get some food there too, and maybe stock up on other supplies as well, of course, only if you want to”. The suggestion would cause a change of scenery for both of them, they would be able to catch their breath.
The suspicion intensified as he did not complete his sentence. Silence was a weapon, it could work on someone’s mind just as torturing as loud noises, and she knew the human mind sometimes filled the silence with eerie voices and calls that would drive you insane. She wouldn’t want him to be bothered by something she did not want for Sullan. Perhaps it would fade with time, so for now, she brushed it off, figuring that he was going to be fine anyway.
However, she kept her eyes on him as he moved towards the next trap to disarm it, arms crossed over chest, head tilted to the side and one eyebrow raised. It was obvious she did not believe him, at least not the whole thing, and that was exactly the reason why she had refused to let him go alone into the woods.
“Sullan,” Shay began, giving a sigh and letting down her defensive posture. She approached him, reached one hand up to gently cup his cheek in the palm of her hand. “I can’t image what you have been through, but I want you to know that I will be here, that there is nothing here that might hurt you again, so please, just take it slow, alright?” Her green eyes shimmered hopefully as soft lips curled into an encouraging smile. It must be hard for him, to grow accustomed to this life once more. Shit, she still couldn't believe it had been two full years. He must have seen the worst of this world.
These times were over now. With her guidance, all the support she would be able to offer, he should be able to adjust, let his guard down, and return to his job. That was...if he still wanted to. Both of them did not speak about it yet, and Shay was unsure if he wished to return to his former occupation. Maybe later they would speak about this.
Little did she know what kinds of fear Sullan must have suffered through, along with the after effects, the damage that had been done permanently on him after such a mistake had happened. She was completely clueless, kneeling there to make sure the traps wouldn’t go off, taking them apart step by step. Perhaps, even though he was so close to her right now, he was further gone than she wanted him to. Shay slowly rose from the dirt floor and cleaned the knees of her pants, brushing off the dust that had settled. Her eyes flicked over to Sullan, checking how he was doing, but something seemed to be off.
A slight frown snuck onto her visage, and she seemed ever so confused, slowly approaching him. Was he searching for something? She could observe how frantically his eyes were scanning their surroundings, and it worried her. Did he possibly see or hear anything?
“Hey, Sullan? Is everything alright?” Shay had asked after taking a couple of steps towards him, letting him know of her presence so close, hoping she wouldn’t startle him in such a situation. The frown on her face remained as she stepped on over closer to him. Whatever the wrong here was, she would make sure to sort it out as quickly as she could, maybe he was just enjoying it to be back, but then again, he’d look different, not this...anxious.
It was a very positive thing for her to see that Sullan still seemed to be interested in what was going on around the forest, wanted to get back into the matter, so she was eager to provide him the needed information for this. “Well, the traps are simple, to alert me. If something steps in I can hear it, as I have little bells attached to the wires. Most of them work like this but there are a few others I used to hold down the...thing with. They never seemed to work though, I am almost sure it avoided them, outsmarted me,” Shay explained to Sullan as the two continued their path through the forest.
Eventually, upon reaching the desired destination, trap number one, Shay signaled for her partner to hold, take a step towards the trap so she could neutralize it, make sure no bunny or squirrel was going to wake them in the middle of the night. “There are a few more scattered around the area,” she explained as her fingers fidgeted with the wire, “You can see if you find them, and deactivate them,” the redhead suggest so they would eventually find themselves in a much friendlier environment, not one riddled with traps and alerting systems.
Once done with the first trap, Shay straightened her posture again, letting her eyes scan the area for the next little traps, she kept her attention a little above, as the wires and bells hung would be easier to detect in such a way.
Finally, it seemed like he had regained some of his senses, and gave Shay a break. At least when it came to the worrying part. He was not in top-form, far from it, and he had to recover before they could do anything major, but he also had to get back on track, she gave him that. So, once he embraced her and she was comforted enough by these words, her worries soothed for the moment, she parted from the hug and nodded a little.
“Very well. We can go ahead then and check. Maybe we stop by the lake as well?” she suggested, remembering the first time Sullan ever showed her the lake with the small waterfall to it, and how comforting the scenery was, in the middle of the forest with this small heavenly place of escape. It was a spot she had returned to a couple of times after he had disappeared, and it would feel much better for her to actually go back there together with Sullan.
She gave him a slight nudge, letting him know he could lead the way through the thick green they housed in. As they moved, Shay let her eyes scan over the cabin once more. She had changed a couple of things with it, but definitely only to their advantages. With the garden she kept flourishing many spells became easier, the ingredients were always there. But all the work aside, she had managed to see it as her own home, and not only the cabin of a guy who was so kind to take her in after she had gone lost in the woods.
"I will be stubborn about this too," Shay was quick to respond because he couldn't expect her to actually let loose on this subject five minutes after they finished the last argument. She was about to head down a familiar path into the forest as she had to turn around again to face her beloved. "Sullan....I don't want you to run around alone here," she began to explain. Shay had a look of defeat on her face. "What if you go out there and just don't come back? What if something happens and I am not there?" Her voice clearly gave away her emotions.
He had only returned. No way he was going to disappear so easily again. Not if she could do something against it. Actually she did not mean to be like this, but what else was she supposed to do? Lean back and watch him run away? A heavy sigh dropped from her lips. "I...I can't ever afford to lose you again. I won't risk anything," she uttered softly, and looked up at him with with something similar to hope in her eyes. "I love you. And you can hate me for this but just over my gods-damned corpse will you go out there alone. That is my point...." And after that, she fell silent again. There was not much more left for her to say, but she had made it clear what she wanted. Sullan simply had to understand this, and respect it, as much as she truly disliked to do this.
This was acceptable for her. He saw the point she was making, and he seemed to be understanding enough for Shay to start relaxing again, a much-needed thing right now. After releasing the softest sigh, and loosening her arms, letting them fall down to her sides she finally nodded. “Alright,” the redhead began, and attempted to work up a weak smile. “I guess I can live with that”. He may not be used to sitting around, but he was smart enough to know about the possible consequences if he was pushing himself too hard now.
“But I still have to check something out in the woods, I put up some traps you know, now I guess I can take the material back with me, use it for something else that is needed. I also have to take care of the garden, did not have much time for that lately and I don’t want my precious and helpful little plants to start rotting,” she explained, and turned from Sullan to make her way to the door.
In his absence, she made much more use of the cabin and the immediate surroundings than he had, herbs, fruits and veggies had been planted, it spared her a few trips to the city, and the herbs had been especially useful back then, when she needed them as ingredients for the potions and spells, before she gave up searching him. There was still guilt left in her, despite his calming words, but she would never forgive herself for giving up while he had been still out there, trying to get back. It was the worst feeling, and she could take that out on the weed that grew in the garden later on.
Shay let him leave and take some distance from her, it seemed to be what he needed this moment, but she did take another few seconds before she finally responded to him. “And I am simply asking you to take a while longer to recover. I have no idea what you had to endure out there, so all I am asking from you is to take a step back. After last night I could need a while off as well...”
And it was true, despite the good work he had done on her arm, she felt still exhausted and in need of some rest. Maybe take the next week off, grow accustomed to having someone in her home again.
With a heavy sigh dropping from her lips, the redhead stood up and approached Sullan. “Listen...I just can’t afford anything shit to happen again. We can both need a while to recover,” she explained, and crossed both arms over her chest, as if she was trying to strengthen the point she had made by her taking this stance.
