Lunge & his family

Tbh the more I think about it, Lunge was probably at one point a very good husband and father. At least superficially. Emotionally he probably never had much of an impact, but his obsessive nature was probably at one point turned toward them and not work.

Earlier in his life, creating a family was probably at the top of Lunge’s priorities. Given the kind of person he is, he probably put absolutely all of his effort toward that - which in turn makes it entirely understandable why his wife would have fallen for him at the time. He would have been completely dedicated to her, so why not? Similarly for his daughter, he probably spent a lot of time making sure that she would be successful and get into a good school. I can even see him as the dad that helped her with homework and gave solid academic advice. We see from the photograph of his family that they seemed genuinely happy with him, so he probably was a devoted husband and father. However once he felt that his wife and daughter were living a comfortable life and would be successful, his priorities shifted to work, because he felt like his part of the job was done.

Post-series we see that his obsession with Tenma (and his work in general) has diminished thanks to the development of his character over time, which also allowed him to reconnect with his daughter. Moving forward he has a lot of potential to take things with a bit less of an extreme dedication, in a healthier manner. And maybe he’ll actually sleep.
