Headcanons
There are so many bad Remus headcanons in my opinion, but I've decided to combine two of my least favorite into one, if that makes sense. There are two schools of thought about Remus while he was at Hogwarts, and I really dislike both. The first is that he was this stick in the mud, goody-goody two shoes nerd who wouldn't ever do pranks and would threaten to tell on his friends and would just study all the time. The other is that Remus was this wild sort of punk who did a lot of drugs and was the ringleader of every single thing the Marauders did.
Both of these headcanons, frankly, suck because they reduce Remus down to his friends. In the first, it's Remus as a foil to James and Sirius (and it's always those two and Peter is never included). Remus is only there to be the voice of reason, to be boring and act like the mum of the group. In the latter headcanon, all of Remus's characterization is lost. He's a prankster, but he isn't some sort of crazy punk who is always high and has a ton of piercings but still is magically a prefect. In both these characterizations, Remus is defined by his friends, either as their caretaker or as an exact clone of them (never mind the fact that the "Sirius and James as wild troublemakers" headcanon is WRONG).
I think the easiest fix to this headcanon is to imagine teenage Remus in a different light. In a shocking turn of events, Remus can be studious and cautious while still enjoying pranking people. I headcanon Remus as being very torn about his own identity and persona while at Hogwarts. He is poor and a werewolf, and two of his friends are very wealthy. But I don't think Remus would utterly transform himself, or be the complete opposite of them, to fit in. After all, the Marauders really came around to help him, so he's the center, and I see the Marauders being defined in terms of Remus, not Remus in terms of the Marauders. So Remus can be goofy and silly (not wild and punk, because in canon we see them as goofy, not wild) sometimes, and he can go along with the pranks and the tricks and the fucking around, but he's also a bit more serious, due to his life circumstances, so there are times when he does take a step back.
Anyway, my Remus headcanon is that he's not on either end of the extreme but a happy medium, a teenager who likes a good laugh but is also worried about keeping his grades up.
Can someone practice dueling with me?
