you've been hurt. what you're doing is wrong. there is no doubt. but it's what you need to do. you were not going to roll over and let it just happen. so you did what you had to. and you will continue doing what you had to. when you die, its with fury in your eyes. your opponent says you're stubborn, having kept this up for this long. you laugh, and spit in their face. you curse them until your very last breath.
I played the entire Aether family event in PokeMas today and... my takeaways:
PokeMas says Redeemed!Lusamine RIGHTS gdi!!
Them learning to work together at a team? Lusamine trying to take the easy way out again and again but repeatedly being called out for it? STILL wanting to hover over Lillie? This is?? The best slow-burn development written for them ever and WHY IS IT IN A SIDE-ASS MOBILE GAME?!?
GUZAMINE LIVES, BITCHES!!! (I may have a phobia of water but damnit I am the captain of this ship and I will go down with it if I have to!!)
I didn’t think that a forgiving Gladion was possible but they did a good job of making it... kinda believable. He was more like: I’m putting in the effort because I WANT to have a family again so I will NOT tolerate you giving up or even your pessimism and I can kinda get down with that take!
Basically, this is the only Lusamine Redemption Arc that Pokemon has given us that I actually like, that’s what I’m saying.
Obviously, Lusamine is like -- the MOST awake, but I’m now just kinda like -VIBRATES- i wanna write ALL the Aether things. Lillie & Gladion are both on @writtenbykaichu but it felt most appropriate to write this here, lol.
I may deadass have to make a Pasio-vers for her now lol.
Lusamine and Mohn done in TOUCHFIVE Twin Markers on Hammermill 100lb Colour Copy Cover paper
I love Lusamine as a villain, her whole backstory with Mohn and the details revolving around his disappearance and amnesia. There’s hardly any work of these two together ahhh! ;o;
I haven’t seen any shipping names for them soooo I’m going to dub them as Ultraspaceshipping: Mohn disappeared into Ultra Space, and being the driving motivator for Lusamine, whom desperately wanted to go into Ultra Space because she believed she could find him again there. The name makes sense to me imo.
Feel free to see the below description for more reading about my alternative Copic marker + paper review (and the reasons why some of the colours are waaay off from my scan and such) – I saved a lot of money just from what I have. :’)
Drop my animation for a moment just to do this cause I need this out of my system or it’ll bug me for the whole night. All cause I kinda spoil myself with the game… My curiosity was strong so I click on the video and… this happens. Man, I wish I can draw these two more. Especially in happier and fluffier scenarios. But all I can think about is sad and pain…😭
Do you have any headcanons about why Lusamine named her kids after flowers? :3 just after seeing your Mother Gothel post I'm curious!
well, the short answer is: she really fucking likes flowers.
the long answer is all in the symbolism.
she was born and raised rich; she intended to stay this way and pass her wealth, and more importantly, class, down to her children. with this in mind, she wanted to give them names that were reflective of the people she expected them to become.
the gladiolus flower represents strength and integrity. gladion was going to be her heir, and the name reflects positive traits for a business leader without being too damning. (you might notice that it’s very appropriate anyway, given gladion’s later obsession with strength in a way she didn’t intend it to manifest.)
now, although there are many different lilies, and even a fair few native to germany, lily is almost definitely explicitly named with the lily of the valley in mind. after all, it’s a white flower, and its symbolism is all too spot-on for pokemon not to have chosen it: “also known as the may lily, it means ‘return to happiness’ and most often symbolizes chastity, purity, happiness, luck and humility.” (really? ‘return to happiness’??? i see you. i see you.) but aside from that, lusamine intending for her daughter to be the picture of christian chastity, purity, humility, and then still somehow happiness…?
yes, both of these play directly into how she raised her children. there are unsubtle sexism i mean retro values implicit in the names, and given the fact that she raised them both with the intent to be demure, dollike little leaders, it makes sense that she would take interest in the symbolism of something as delicate as flowers. her children were supposed to express a delicate strength. and in a sense… they eventually did. just not the way she had imagined it.
h.O1 :: a bulleted look at abuse in the aether household
oh i know you didn’t think my first blog canon would be anything but terrible. that said, although i don’t typically tag it on this blog, i am going to read-more this post just in case getting into the nitty-gritty is a bit too much.
specific trigger warnings include :: child neglect, emotional abuse, and grooming.
feel like you can handle that? then click the readmore and let’s talk about how fucked up this mom is. (i’ll be leaving how mohn comes into play for another headcanon.)
the short of it is that lusamine’s household was a house of unreasonably, and eventually unhealthily high expectations. she expected her children to behave as miniature lusamines, and it was for the purpose of succeeding her and being her literal image that lusamine imposed certain rules.
education: while lusamine very much saw the purpose of socialization and deemed it necessary for the proper rearing of her children, she chose only the best (most expensive) institutions in kalos and eventually alola. these schools were private and even catholic (although she is not strictly catholic herself). why? she saw value in their methodology and therefore deemed it the best place to cultivate her childrens’ minds.
religion: bouncing off of this, the children did attend church for a while. however, because their education was catholic, lusamine saw fit to shop them around to a few different denominations until they settled on a favorite. it is worth noting that lusamine did want her children to be some kind of religious (in the general line of her own beliefs of course)--it just wasn’t imperative that it was specifically catholic.
diet: sodas? of course not. candies? laughable. granted, lusamine wasn’t so strict about diet that the children had never so much as tasted ice cream until they escaped her, treats were exactly that: treats. (i’ll expand upon this soon.) lusamine imposed a mostly-vegan diet, allowing deviation for treats (and sometimes holidays) only. now, because they were of affluence, the meals made for them were still tasty and extravagant, but they were still kids. of course they wanted to have pizza. hell would rain down upon the children if they were caught sneaking food that lusamine didn’t specifically schedule for them, though, bringing us right along to:
discipline: lusamine would never think herself abusive because she’s of the false belief that abuse is purely physical. she was the mother who imposed time-outs for twice as long as one should be; she would put a stick down their backs if they didn’t stand straight enough, etc. treats were allowed exactly once monthly but even one mess-up could steal that away from the children in an instant. yeah. a+ mom of the year, right? to make matters more fun, the children didn’t exactly take a long time to learn that there was always a calm before lusamine’s loud-yelling storm. they knew well as soon as they heard her sing-songy voice that they had already stepped past the point of no return, and while the children were well-behaved, it seemed they could never please her enough to avoid being yelled at entirely.
extracurriculars: each child was expected to participate in one sport, study an instrument (of their choosing, within reason), sing chorally, study a language outside of the native languages (alolan/french/english don’t count), and still make time to study under her or mohn in preparation for inheriting the company.
the thing to take away here is that lusamine was the insidious kind of emotional abuser who would say ‘you would be so much better if you simply did x’ rather than outright saying she was disgusted with you. (that sort of straightforward talk didn’t really come until later in life; a headcanon for another day.)
since we’re on the subject of abuse, i’ll go ahead and lay down the few things i just don’t see lusamine doing:
hitting her children or allowing anyone else to.
intentionally starving her children.
straight-up homeschooling the kids.
massive list, i know. but hey, i never said she was a good person.
