into the mountain
“J.R.R. Tolkien has become a sort of mountain, appearing in all subsequent fantasy in the way that Mt Fuji appears so often in Japanese prints. Sometimes it’s big and up close. Sometimes it’s a shape on the horizon. Sometimes it’s not there at all, which means that the artist either has made a deliberate decision against the mountain, which is interesting in itself, or is in fact standing on Mt Fuji.”
— “Magic Kingdoms” (1999), Terry Pratchett.

me, quietly whispering to the ao3 page of an author who doesn’t even know I exist: I am obsessed with you
me, whispering to the ao3 page of an author who hasn’t updated anything in four years: I think about you often and I hope you’re alright
me, whispering to the ao3 page of an author who wrote one life altering banger and nothing else: I hope your pillow is cool and your skin is clear and you find money in a forgotten jeans pocket
me, whispering to every single person on this post: please leave one singular comment saying literally any of that

Sometimes Im reminded about the difference in how Thranduil and Oropher started their Kingships and suddeny im sobbing on the floor

My take on our fav elf, Legolas!
Baby 🥺🥺🥺
hi i absolutely adore your fics!! i was wondering if you have any fic recs, particularly ones about thranduil or thranduil and legolas? i am fairly new to the fandom and i struggle to navigate ffnet, but recs from any platform would be so so appreciated!! tysm <3
YES!! I'm so glad you asked! I am what you would consider a Legolas' expert (muses mustache in an intellectual way).
First, thank you SO much for reaching out and letting me know you like my stories. It means the world to me. Now, as for your request:
For the Brother Dynamic
If you like Legolas with brothers, you should check out dawtheminstrel on FF.net. I don't usually enjoy that trope, but this author does it beautifully. It is true that, sometimes, Legolas' brothers get a liiiiittle too much "screen time" at the expense of our dear elf, but the OCs are excellent.

The "Absolute Must-Reads"
The following authors are, in my opinion, mandatory reading:
Mirrordance: This author writes in a way I can't even begin to describe. They use words so poetically and create such tender moments while exploring the psychological aspects of Legolas and Thranduil. You just can’t stop reading. I haven’t read their AUs because I don't like that genre, but the rest? Absolute masterpieces, especially "The Halls of My Home."

CheveronChick: Another absolutely incredible author. The relationships between Legolas, Thranduil, and Galion (among other OCs) are spectacular. This author balances tenderness with dark moments with such ease that it feels as if you were right there. They are also quite active here on Tumblr and are extremely kind! I highly recommend their headcanons.

JediSapphire: The original author through whom I first discovered fanfiction. They have a series of related stories that are absolutely magnificent. They are incredibly well-thought-out, though I recommend reading them in chronological order. The author always includes a warning at the beginning of the fic, so you'll know which ones belong to the series and which can be read independently.

These three authors (plus dawtheminstrel) are the best at writing Legolas and Thranduil. You will not be disappointed! I 100% recommend every and each story they have published.
Also, If I am any kind of humble author today, it is thanks to them.
If you want more recs, you can check out my "Favorite Stories" on FF.net. But trust me, these will keep you busy for a couple of weeks at the very least!
You have Elf-level PTSD about all things war and Sauron, you have seen the horror of Mordor and cannot forget it, if ever you look to the South, that memory dims the light of the Sun, you just want to stay in your forest, avoid the drama of the world, and keep your people safe, you happen to like gems and shiny things, and yet people have the audacity to call you arrogant and greedy just because some 21st century mortals misrepresented you in a movie.
And suddenly you get a message from your son: You're not going to believe where I am or with whom
Little Prince of the forest, whom does not yet know the sorrow this world may bring, May you forever be cradled by the heart of a vigorous spring. Though there is no dimming the shadow beyond, there is hope that you might find joy within these woodland walls. You are loved more than you know, for a green leaf is a proud reflection of the tree from which it falls
Legolas meaning "Green Leaf"
Thranduil meaning "Vigorous Spring"
Oh how I love incorporating the etymology of names into character art, it brings me much joy. I was also motivated to draw some Thranduil and a Little Legolas with some forest imagery. Really brought out the illustrator in me composition-wise.
We really need some more soft family content from these two, I genuinely believe that after all Thranduil experienced in his early life, and the loss of his own father, that he would vow to care for and make sure his son had a good life.
