iâm someone who writes my emotions. iâm someone who has always turned to pen and paper, and later a keyboard and screen, to write how i feel. but no words in the english language will ever be able to describe the hurt that i feel. no words will ever be able to shine light on how much jonghyun has meant to me over the years. itâs hard to think about. itâs hard to face the pain thatâs always going to be there. on some days the hurt will barely be noticeable, on other itâll hurt like nothing else. a day like his solo debut anniversary, a day where his birthday comes and he doesnât age a year older, a day where shinee has their anniversary and he isnât there to celebrate with his members or us, the day where we reach a year, or two, or five that heâs been gone.
it hard to face the reality that someone youâve loved for so long isnât here anymore. itâs something i didnât want to face. itâs something i struggled with. i didnât want to say goodbye, just yet. i didnât want to make it real, just yet. but i knew i had to. and i knew i would. i didnât want to because if i said goodbye, it felt like i was letting go. just because i said my thanks jonghyun, it didnât mean that his spirit would not live on. but it was hard for it to not feel that way. itâs really hard when youâre used to someone being part of your life for nearly a decade.
itâs crazy to think back to 12 year old me who fell in love with shinee. i was bright eyed and so happy over this one song. this song that i played every single day before and after school. a song that drove my family insane because i wouldnât stop pulling up youtube and typing in âshinee - replayâ and i would listen to it over and over and over again. and when i thought i was done, i would click the replay button one more time.
jonghyun has given me so much comfort. and i know as days go on, heâll continue to be a form of comfort. i remember one day i was having a really hard time in school. it was cold outside, finals were coming up, and i really missed my friends and family. when iâm sad i go on drives so i decided to get on the highway and listen to story op1. and i sang my heart out. with my clumsy korean and my bad pronunciation i sang until my worries slid from my shoulders. itâs the same day that i came home to find out that blue night was going to come to an end. another place where i found comfort. i listened to blue night nearly every day and was constantly get online to see the translations of his words. or just listen to him laugh and his voice. i even aligned my classes so i could listen to it before i went to class or right after i got out. i remember one semester after HS it didnât work out that way for me and it upset me. for a whole semester i had to miss an hour of blue night two times a week. so then it hurt me like nothing else that something i loved was going to come to end. and knowing it was something jonghyun put his heart and soul into and was parting ways with also hurt. but he was doing to for health reason and he was doing it because he was putting himself first. and that sadness turned to happiness. because as much as i was going to miss his voice every morning, i was glad that he was going to take care of himself like he needed to.
words will truly never describe how wonderful jonghyun was as a person. he made this fair share of mistakes but he always tried to learn from them. he always wanted to become a better person. and accepted his flaws. itâs whatâs made me want to be a better person. itâs what made me love him more than i thought was humanly possible. he loved so much and he was honest about his feelings. itâs always been so rare to find someone that let you know how he was feeling and what he was thinking. and thatâs what always made the bond with him special. because he always told you how he felt and he never hid. and maybe thatâs why itâs hard to lose someone like him. because you always knew how he felt but you never know how much he felt it. itâs heartbreaking to know that someone who hurt so much spend his life comforting others. and i think thatâs the thing about people who feel so damaged inside, they donât want other to feel what they feel.
iâm going to love you forever, jonghyun. on my saddest of days, iâm still going to listen to your songs. iâm sorry that life didnât treat you like you deserved. iâm sorry that you didnât find what you searched for. and iâm sorry that i always wanted more from you because i didnât know how much you were hurting. i thank you for everything you given me over the past 9 years. in another life, just like this one, i would love you endlessly. i know youâre not suffering anymore. you did well, jonghyun. i hope you know that.

Jonghyun's always questioned how he could fall in love with his best friend. He always questioned how in a universe filled with 7 billion different faces, he ended up falling for the one person he probably shouldn't. Best friends are supposed to the person you're closest to. The person you share you secrets and your dreams with. They pick you up when you fall, and they wipe your tears away when you cry. They're not supposed to be the love of your life too. Or maybe they can be. But they shouldn't be.
But when Jonghyun looks to his right and sees his best friend slumped over a book, his eyelashes fluttering slowly as his eyes skim the page. Jonghyun can't question himself, the universe, or his heart. He watches quietly, a smile on his lips as he looks at his best friend or the love of his life. He doesn't know which word fits best yet. He throws them around in his mind often. What should he call him? In the end, he calls him his Jinki.
His Jinki.
Maybe not entirely his. He has to share him with others, but in a little section of his heart, buried under many feelings, there's a place dedicated to his love for him. Maybe one day it'll burst at the seams and they won't stay locked away. A day where he can actually say everything to the one person that's responsible for how he feels.
"Do I have something on his face?" he hears Jinki say and he's quickly shaken from his thoughts.
"No," Jonghyun tells him quickly.
Jinki squints his eyes. "Then why...?"
Jonghyun can't help but laugh at Jinki's adorable expression. Despite being a year older than him. Jinki has always been the cutest thing for Jonghyun. He still remembers when he was a new student at their school. Jonghyun loves new faces and new people so he was always the first to introduce himself to new students. He jumped at knowing there was someone new, and took him all around the school. He was ready to take him under his wing, but little did he know that Jinki was older than him. Its moment likes these that he's kind of glad he was an eager 12-year-old. Years later, even if he didn't take Jinki under his wing, he still has him by his side.
"Admiring your beauty," Jonghyun finally tells him with a smirk.
Jinki lets out a sigh but Jonghyun doesn't miss the slightly blush come across his face. The one that always tells him despite the annoyed playful huffs, Jinki likes his compliments. Maybe under it all, he seeks them.
After another hour of studying, they're both packing their bags. It's silent on the top floor of the library. The only things heard are the sounds coming from the zipper of their bags.
Once they're down the stairs and out of the front of the library Jonghyun finally lets out a loud yawn.
"Want some ramen?" Jinki asks him once they're across the street, heading towards their homes.
"Yeah, I'm kind of starving." Jonghyun rubs his belly.
"I'll make you some at my house, come on."
It's a short walk. They're silent almost the whole way. Its comfortable although. Neither of them ever feel the need to fill in awkward silences because there aren't any. Jonghyun read somewhere once that the best kind of relationship are the ones where even silence is comfortable. He doesn't know if that's true but he knows it feels liberating to be with someone where you don't feel the need to make sure they're okay being around you. It's best when you know they already are. Either way, even in a silent library the silence after a long session at the library is the best. Your brain can finally stop and relax.
Jonghyun and Jinki take their shoes off as they near his front door and make sure to tip toe into their kitchen. It's barely 10 at night but both of Jinki's parent have to get up at four in the morning during week days and as they once told Jonghyun, "We can't sleep like the teenagers anymore. We need to be in bed at the same time as the old folks." He remembers laughing along with Mr. Lee as he told him that, but he's right in a way. He could get a three hour rest and still function. Maybe not like he should but he'd be alright.
"Chicken or shrimp?" Jinki pulls out two packets before him.
"Hmmm," Jonghyun taps on his chin. "Chicken please, Chef Lee."
Jinki lets out a small laugh. "I'm only good at making ramen. No way am I the best."
"You're the best at making ramen," Jonghyun corrects him. "Have a little pride in that."
"Alright, alright."
After a small wait, Jinki is pulling out chopsticks and two bowls onto the table. Jonghyun sets two tall glasses of water, while Jinki brings out a medium sized pot filled with ramen. They each take turns pouring in some into their bowls.
They eat and slurp while the watch a 2 days and 1 night episode in the background. Jonghyun is so immersed in what the cast is doing that he gets startled when Jinki starts to speak.
"We're graduating soon, Jonghyun." Jinki says softly. "It's our last few days in high school."
"We have to pass the exams first," he tries to make Jinki laugh, but he just gives Jonghyun a small smile. "Are you okay?"
"Yeah," Jinki starts and then takes a drink of his water. "Things are going to change. I mean I'm moving to Seoul. That's miles away from here, hours even."
"Right," Jonghyun nods. "Things are going to change but you're going to be great, Jinki-hyung. You've worked so hard."
"I know, I know." Jinki smiles. "I'm just scared a little, I guess. It's a big change."
"Change isn't always that bad. I mean, when you moved here that was a big change. And guess what? You got the bestest friend in the world from it," he winks.
"I did, didn't I?" Jinki questions honestly and something catches in Jonghyun's chest. "Things won't change between us right, Jonghyun-ah? You'll always be my best friend?"
And thatâs when Jonghyun realizes that Jinki's actually scared of much more than moving. He's scared of losing him. It's frightens him a bit because ever since he's known Jinki, it was Jonghyun that get scared or worried. It was him that would need the reassure. But here Jinki is asking him to remain his best friend forever. And part of him wants to scream you're so much more than that. But he can't. Maybe it's because he's a coward, or maybe it's because when he looks deep into Jinki's eyes and he sees the fear of change at this very moment that he can't even begin to try to warp their friendship into something more.
Jonghyun drops his chopsticks into his bowl and reaches over for Jinki's hands, "Iâll always be here for you, hyung. As your best friend or in whichever way."
Jinki gives him a smile that nearly leaves him blind. And maybe that's the best he can do right now. Offer Jinki the option of everything or nothing at all. If it means having Jinki by his side for the rest of his life, he thinks he could his best friend forever.
Jonghyun finally finds his soulmate. But heâs asking him to remove his tattoo for good.

Part One
Jonghyun pulls out a notebook from his backpack that he always carries around. Itâs a slow day today at the tattoo shop he works at so heâs usually allowed to sit around. His co-workers are usually playing games on their phones but Jonghyun always opts to write. Heâs been itching to write new lyrics but heâs had writers block for some time now and itâs driving him to become a ball of frustration. He taps his pen against the edge of the table and watches as the first snow of the winter falls. He smiles happily while he sees the snowflakes peppering the cold streets, falling on top of parked cars and the street lights. Itâs always the best when thereâs snow outside, at least that way the cold air doesnât bug him as much because thereâs a beautiful sight before him.
Jonghyun is shaken from his thoughts when one of his co-workers call him over. âJonghyun! Come here please.â
Jonghyun slowly stands up from the large black couch he was sitting on and pockets his pen. He walks over towards the counter Krystal is standing behind and looks at who sheâs looking at and he canât help but freeze. Jonghyun has seen his fair share of beautiful men but heâs never seen someone this beautiful. The man before them is beyond breath taking. His facial features are striking and he can't help but feel lost looking at his high cheek bones. His eyes remind him of the pretty cats his sister own, they're small and feline shaped and so, so beautiful.
Krystal nudges him, a small smirk on her face. Fuck, she noticed my staring Jonghyun thinks. She tells him, âKibum here wants to have a tattoo removed.â
Jonghyun moves from around the counter and stands in front of Kibum. Jonghyun is used to feeling small around others. It embarrasses him a lot that he wasnât given much height but in front of Kibum he feels the perfect height. He extends his hand and Kibum gladly takes it. Jonghyun shivers as their hands connect, he feels warmth when their fingers meet and he canât help but feel sparks flying around.
âIâm Jonghyun,â he introduces himself.
âKibum,â the beautiful boy grins.
They stand there for a bit just staring at each other and theyâre broken from each otherâs gazes when someone to the side of them clears their throat.
âSo, uh, Iâll let you guys chat,â Krystal moves from behind the counters towards the back of the shop.
Jonghyun looks down embarrassed, he can feel his cheeks heat up. He plays with the fringe of hair and removes it from his eyes. âSo tattoo removal?â
Kibum nods, âYeah, Iâve been wanting to get it removed for a while now.â
âSounds like youâre sure,â Jonghyun lets out a small laugh. âCome with me so we can talk about it.â
Kibum follows Jonghyun and gestures him to sit on the couch he was on minutes ago. Jonghyun offers Kibum something to drink but he declines saying that had lunch before he came here and he's totally fine. Jonghyun excuses himself to get himself a water bottle and Kibum says it's fine.
When he returns, drink in hand, he sits next to Kibum and turns to ask him. âSo what tattoo am I removing?â
âUh⊠my soulmate tattoo?â
Jonghyunâs eyebrows raise in surprise. Itâs not like he isnât used to people coming here to erase their soulmate tattoo from their skin. Itâs a common practice since the law that you couldnât remove your tattoo was outlawed and declared unconstitutional. Itâs better this way, people used to go to dingy shops and get infected because they werenât using the right equipment. But itâs usually people in their mid 30s or 40s who never met their soulmate that want to get rid of it. Itâs very rarely someone so young that comes in to get it removed.
âAre you sure?â Jonghyun asks. He quickly realizes what he's asked. Heâs not allowed to question what the client wants unless theyâre drunk and corrects himself quickly. âI mean, of course.â
Kibum lets out a loud laugh and Jonghyun jumps a little in surprise. He watches Kibum hit his own thigh from his small fit of laugh and Jonghyun canât help but let his own giggles leave his mouth. His laugh is just as beautiful as him, he thinks.
âIâm positive,â he assures Jonghyun. âIâve never believed in the whole soulmate thing. I just donât like the idea behind it and Iâve always known that once Iâm older Iâd like to get it off.â
Jonghyun looks down at his hands before looking up to meet Kibumâs eyes. He hesitates before asking, âIf this doesnât cross any lines, can I know why you feel that way?â
âYouâre fine,â Kibum hand swishes against the air, in a motion telling him itâs nothing. âIâve just always hated the idea that Iâm confined to one person. I mean weâre not in the stone ages anymore where we are only destined to be with our soulmate and thatâs it. Everyone our ages dates and falls in love and sometimes people do search for their soulmate sometimes people donât. But it's not like we need to and I don't like feeling like I have to.â
âSo you just want to get rid of yours so you don't feel that way?â
âYeah, itâd be easier for me. Once I fall in love with someone Iâd like to come back and get a tattoo with them. A matching one that we can pick because we picked each other.â
âThatâs both sadistic and romantic all at the same time,â Jonghyun remarks.
Kibum smiles, âThat feels like a compliment so Iâll take it as one.â
âIt was one, donât worry.â Jonghyun beams. He gets a little closer to Kibum and motions for his arm. âCan I see the tattoo?â
Kibum shimmies off his coat and pulls up the sleeve from his long-sleeved shirt. He turns over his wrist and places it into Jonghyunâs hands. âHere.â
Jonghyunâs eyes nearly pop out of his head when he sees the tattoo. Itâs the very same tattoo that he knows like the back of his hand. Itâs the very same tattoo that heâs memorized since he was a young boy and learned everything about soulmates. Itâs the very same tattoo that heâs drawn over and over again with a smile on face just waiting until he meets his own soulmate.
Itâs the very same tattoo the man in front of him wants to remove.
âAre you okay?â Kibum asks, clearly seeing him frozen.
âOh yeah,â Jonghyun slowly letâs go of his wrist. âItâs just so beautiful. I was surprised.â
Kibum purses his lips as he tilts his head to look down at wrist, âI guess it is.â
Jonghyun feels his heart breaking on the inside. He feels his hands clam up as he walks over to get an agreement sheet and one that explains everything there needs to be known about tattoo removal and care. He feels his legs shake a little as he goes back to sit down in front of Kibum. Heâs surprised his voice doesnât quiver as he explains everything to Kibum and the man simply nods, he tells Jonghyun heâs done a lot of research so he knows all about it and heâs ready. That only hurts Jonghyunâs heart more. He swallows deeply as he points Kibum to where he needs to sign and Kibum happily signs away turning the paper over to Jonghyun once everythingâs ready.
âSo Iâll see you tomorrow so we can get started, okay?â Jonghyun says, forcing a smile on his face.
âSounds good,â Kibum places his arms through the sleeves of his coat. Once he done he turns to Jonghyun and extends his hand. âNice meeting you.â
Jonghyun accepts his hand and says, âNice to meet you too.â
He watches as Kibum turns on his heels and then heâs out the door, grabbing a knit hat from one of the pockets of his coat and disappears into the snowy streets.
Krystal appears beside him with a smirk plastered on her face, she nudges him with her hips. âSo how was that?â
âIt was fine,â he tells her deflated.
Krystal frowns at him, she notices his change of mood from earlier and touches his forehead with the palm of her hand. âDid you suddenly get sick? Your temperature feels fine.â
âIâll be okay,â he grabs her hand from his forehead and gives it small squeeze. âDonât worry.â
Jonghyun leaves her standing there as he plops himself on his couch, pulling out his notebook from earlier and grabbing his pen suddenly feeling everything he needs to write a song. He stares down at his own tattoo on his wrist, he traces the lines with his index finger and sighs deeply. He picks up his pen once more and writes the title of his new song.
A song to my soulmate: who wants me to remove his soulmate tattoo.
Description: Â "Itâs like when I was little and I broke my momâs favorite china and as much as I tried to glue it back together it kept falling apart and there was no way you could miss the cracks. We're like that sometimes. We're my mom's old broken china."
Jinki and Gwiboon are falling apart before their own eyes. Gwiboon don't know how to make it better.

Gwiboon lets her long hair out of the bun sheâs been sporting all day. Her curls fall behinds her and she shakes her head to get them away from the front of her face, still concentrating on the drawings before her angling her lines and shades just right. She takes a moment to look at her phone and she still sees nothing from her boyfriend. She lets out an exhale of frustration, the last time theyâve messaged each other through KKT was two days ago and she hasnât seen him all day. It stings her a pride a bit knowing how he used to tell her everything.
Jinki used to call her or text her almost every hour, letting her know what he was eating, or his plans at the hospital that day, sharing stories and pieces of his patients with her, he used to even just text her to simply say that he was thinking of her but now sheâs lucky if she so as much to get a hi.
She doesnât think of much any longer as she finally finishes the last touches of what she was working on and closes her sketchbook shut. She turns off the television that was playing in front of her and throws on her eye mask ready for some sleep. Her silky sleepwear feels nice against her skin as she hides herself under the warmth. It doesnât take long before sleep pulls her under.
Gwiboon hears sounds in her house and she knows those footsteps anywhere. She props up from her bed, yawning and taking off the face mask to throw it on the small table next to her. She lies facing the door to see Jinki come in. He looks beyond tired and part of her knows she shouldnât say anything other than letâs get you to bed or something nice but something in her snaps from her thoughts earlier. He used to tell her when he was going to come home even if he had barely any time to tell her heâd make sure to tell a nurse to contact her she wouldnât worry about what he was up to and she canât help but feel irritated.
âYou didnât contact me all day,â she says with a tone harsher than she intended.
Jinki snaps from his tired trace to look up at her, his eyebrows furrow as he spots her in the dim lights and he just sighs, rubbing his face with his hand. âIâve been in surgery all day, Gwiboon. Letâs not do this right now.â
Gwiboon opens her mouth just to close it. She knows when it matters and when it doesnât, if she were to keep going Jinki would just ignore her anyway or sigh deeply until she gets frustrated enough to give up. She watches as Jinki ruffles through their drawers and pulls out what he needs to go to sleep. He walks to the bathroom and Gwiboon stares at their ceiling feeling out of place in their own room. When Jinki finally walks out and starts walking towards the door something in her fully wakes her up.
âCome to bed,â she tells him. âYou need your bed; youâve been working all day.â
It takes Jinki a moment before he turns from the door and walks towards the bed, the moment he lands Gwiboon gets up and goes to their closet.
âWhat are you doing?â he asks.
âIâm going out for a jog,â she replies. âIâm not tired anymore and the sunâs about to rise might as well.â
She can see Jinki nod his head as he turns to his side, she changes in the bathroom; throwing water on her face and brushing her teeth. When she comes back out Jinkiâs out like a light. She gets close to his sleeping figure, and she canât help but to place her hand on his cheek. He looks beyond tired and his sleeping form looks nothing short than angelic.
Gwiboonâs always hated running. When she wants to lose weight sheâd dance instead or count her calories carefully but sometimes it was nice to feel the wind against her skin and the fresh air around her as she jogs to the beat of her playlist. After twenty minutes, she places herself onto a bench and watches a pond, the water flowing as ducks come in and out of it and she kind of wishes she brought bread to feed them. Maybe next time, she thinks. She then spots a couple, college students she bets, walking home hand and hand giggling with each other and something in her chest tightens because it wasnât too long ago that her Jinki were that way.
She still remembers everything about how they first met and itâs one of her favorite memories about Jinki.
It feels so far away.
~~~~~~~~
Nearly six years ago
Gwiboon didnât mean to be the typical fashion student who happens to have a part time job as a barista to pays for her university but she somehow was.
Her parents help her a lot but they draw the line at paying for the latest clothes she wants or the millions of handbags she wants to get her hands on so they said theyâd pay for her school expenses and housing but other than that she needs to find a way to pay for her other needs. She frowned being used to getting what she wanted but she nodded anyway, thinking how hard it could be to find a job.
It was really hard.
It wasnât until she walked into a small coffee ship with the want signed attached to the front that she was hired on the spot with her knowledge of coffee and treats, her sweet attitude to charm people also was probably the biggest part of it since she was going to deal with a lot of people but she nearly ran home screaming and ran into her best friendâs Jonghyunâs room screaming I finally got a job. He was in the middle of playing a video game with his nerd friends so he didnât care that much but she was happy none the less.
It was a Wednesday night when she met Jinki. It was her turn to close up the shop, on weekdays they close at midnight and she was ready to close everything up until she nearly scared herself seeing a boy, no a man, hunched over books beyond books and a small laptop in front of him.
Gwiboon gets near slowly hoping not to scare him, she knows how badly she snaps when sheâs waken up in a bad way. She sees all the books and she smiles as she notices that he must be a medical student, one of her older friends used to look like this all the time and she doesnât want to wake up but itâs getting close to the time she needs to close.
She gently taps on the manâs shoulder and it doesnât take time for his eyes to open. His eyes widen when he sees her and he nearly falls off his chair as he straightens himself up. Gwiboon canât help the giggle as she sees the flustered man collect himself.
She finally stops her giggles to inform him theyâre closing soon, âWe close at midnight,â she says, sliding out a chair in front of him. âIâm sorry to wake you up.â
He shakes his head furiously, âNo, youâre fine. Itâs me who should be sorry that Iâm keeping you open.â
âYouâre fine,â she smiles. âItâs getting late though. You must have to get home eventually.â
He nods sheepishly, packing some of his things and Gwiboon helps by placing his pens and highlighter into the big pouch on top of his books. âHere,â she hands the neatly packed pouch to him.
Their hands touch for a bit longer than is expected and something in her sparks.
âLee Jinki,â he finally says and she raises her eyebrows until she notices that heâs just told her his name.
âKim Gwiboon,â she smiles.
âThatâs a really pretty name.â
Gwiboon blushes, she feels her cheeks heat up and she gets surprised because she does not blush and not with something so silly as informing her she has a pretty name but here she is doing so.
When Jinkiâs all packed up and throwing his backpack over himself, Gwiboon goes to grab her coat.
âLet me walk you home,â Jinki offers. âI kept you locking up later than you wouldâve.â
Gwiboon wants to say no but his eyes are so sincere and heâs biting his lip from nervousness so thereâs no way she can say no to someone so adorable standing in front of her. She merely nods and walks the general direction of where she lives.
âItâs a short walk,â she informs him.
âI like short walks,â he laughs.
Gwiboon finishes cleaning the tables and watches as Jinki puts up the chairs once sheâs done. She runs to the back room to grab her small handbag and large grey cardigan. She places her arms through the sleeves and quickly pats her hair side braid, fluffy it the way she likes it.
She walks out to see Jinki with his book bag on his back and staring down out his phone. She quietly walks over and gives him a small grin when she stands in front of him.
âReady?â he asks her once he looks up to meet her eyes.
âSo youâre a med student?â Gwiboon starts up the conversation as she leads the way towards her apartment building.
Jinki looks over at her and nods, âPre-med. Iâm studying to be a doctor one day.â
âThatâs so cool. You must be really smart.â
âIâm alright,â Jinki says modestly. âAre you in school?â
âYeah. Fashion major.â
âShouldâve known. You dress nice.â
Gwiboon feels her cheek heat up again and she curses at herself. âI try to so thanks.â
The walk silently side by side for the last two blocks of her way home and once theyâre finally in front of building Gwiboon stops and glances towards her building. âSo here we are.â
âSo we are.â
âI-â Gwiboon pauses, not knowing what else to say other than, âThank you.â
Jinki gives her a heavenly smile that her insides squeal. His eyes disappear and his face lights up and she loves the way one of his eyes close more than the other. He gives her a small wave with his fingers as he says, âSee you around, Gwiboon.â
She sees him almost every time she has a night shift. She spends her last hour of work with Jinki as they chat about small things, like their favorite colors, their birthday, what they like on their pizza and what they donât like. It feels nice and it feels special to be able to share small things about herself with someone who pays attention to every word she says. Jinki will walk her home every night too and thatâs how they spend their time for a month before Jinki finally asks her out.
âI was thinking,â Jinki says one night after he sets down his highlighter and Gwiboon stares at him in surprise.
âIâm surprised you can even think with all the material youâre shoving into your brain.â
Jinki laughs, âI was wondering something.â
âWhat is it?â
He doesnât meet her eyes for a second and then he looks at her with something that Gwiboon canât put her finger on, it looks like fear?
âWould you like to go out with me?â
âOh,â she says. âYeah sure where?â
âI meant,â he says awkwardly. âAs a date. Like. Would you go on a date with me this weekend?â
Gwiboon heart races and she nods. âIâŠâ and smiles, âYes.â
Just like everything else in her life, Gwiboon marks the number of her best friend and she nearly screams into the phone she hears his sleepy hello.
âI have a date!â
âA what?â and she can practically feel Jonghyun rubbing his eyes from the other end of the phone.
âA date! Keep up!â
She can hear Jonghyun sigh and she hears sheets rustle in the background. âWhat happened to no dates? All men want right now is sex?â
âThatâs just you,â she laughs.
âYah!â he yells. âI resent that.â
âJonghyun,â she whines. âI have a date and Iâm nervous.â
âWhen is it?â
âTomorrow.â
âJust be yourself,â he tells her. âAnd wear something pretty.â
âYouâre a brat,â she tells her best friend.
âYou love me.â
When they arrive to their destination Gwiboon feels her legs shake a little when she gets out of the car. She hates heights and theyâre at an amusement park.
When they get on the Ferris Wheel she canât help but she practically sits on top of Jinki, her hands are tightened around his shirt and she has her legs tucked under his.
âAre you okay?â he says softly.
âIâm terrified of heights,â she shuts her eyes as they move once more.
âGwiboon,â he says in surprise. âIâm so sorry. You shouldâve told me.â
âItâs embarrassing to say out loud,â she winces.
âEveryoneâs scared of something,â he tells her.
âJust,â she stops. âJust hold me, please.â
It doesnât take long before he wraps his arms around her waist and pulls her close, humming into her ear.
When theyâre off and from the contact, Gwiboon finds the courage to slide her slim fingers into Jinkiâs hand and she sees the way Jinki looks down at their locked fingers before giving them a small squeeze.
âI did too,â he says before getting out of the car and going around it to open her door.
âIâll see you tomorrow?â
âSee you.â
They spend more time together after that, they still spend her night shifts laughing at stupid things and talking about the days theyâve had.
Jinki officially asks her to be his girlfriend when day when she comes over late at night.
Sheâs been over before but a couple minutes into her visit, Jinki passes out and she notices how messy his small apartment was. She takes it upon herself to sweep and mop and take out the trash, she dusts his house and pats his sheet. She didnât even notice Jinki had woken up until she turns around to see that he was watching her cook food for him, she nearly trips and Jinki moves forward to catch her but they both go crashing to the floor. Jinki landing on his back and Gwiboon landing on top of him, his hands around her waist and hers on either side of his head.
âBe my girlfriend,â Jinki blurts out, she can see his expression move from calm to surprise like he canât believe he just said that out loud
Gwiboon just laughs taking the small courage from the statement and pressing her soft lips against his slightly chapped ones before answering, âAs long as you agree to be my boyfriend.â
He moves his hands from her waist to cup her cheeks and give her a sweet long peck himself, âI guess weâre dating.â
âI guess we are.â
~~~~~~~~~~~~
Gwiboon snaps out of the memories when she hears a small dog barking a block away. She looks at the time and she decides it time to jog back home, she places her earphones back on and goes her way. When she gets home and up the stairs into their room, she goes straight to the shower, wanting to get the sweat off her as soon as possible. Itâs a nice warm shower, she hums to herself as she washes every part of herself. When she gets out of the shower she nearly trips over Jinkiâs clump of clothes and part of her wants to leave them there so he can trip himself later but she takes a deep breath and throws them into the hamper, she has to do laundry later anyway. She quietly changes and goes down stairs to make herself breakfast, she thinks about making some for Jinki but she knows that getting home at 5 in the morning means he probably wonât wake up until the afternoon.
It isnât until four in the afternoon that she finally sees Jinki up and moving, she quickly moves to the kitchen to make him something to eat and he gives her a smile when she sees a plate ready for him. He eats it quietly and Gwiboon goes back to the couch where she was watching television. Moments later, she feels the spot next to her on the couch dip and an arm pulling her close. Â She curls up against Jinkiâs warmth and eventually her grabs her and puts her between his legs, letting her back sit comfortably against his chest.
It doesnât last long because Jinki makes a remark about the drama theyâre watching and she makes on back and somehow theyâre at each otherâs throats. She canât even tell you how it started, theyâre just yelling and words are being throw around but it ends with Jinki harshly grabbing the keys from the counter and a door slamming behind him.
Her heart aches when she realizes how short lived their comfort was.
She drives to Jonghyun apartment, he doesnât even have to ask whatâs going on when he sees tears threating to fall from her eyes, he just pulls her in and leads her to his couch.
âWhatâs going on?â
âWe fought,â she says a little broken. âThatâs all we do anymore.â
âIâm sorry.â
âItâs not your fault and Iâd rather not talk about it. Tell me about your day, please.â
âOkay so I was going toâŠâ
Gwiboon spends the rest of her day listening to her best friend and watching movies as she wills herself not to cry.
Gwiboon doesnât see Jinki for about a week and thatâs not abnormal but itâs not easy on her. Usually when thereâs too much going on at the hospital he sleeps there and if she didnât know any better she could swear that heâs probably avoiding her. She puts those thoughts to the back of her head as she sits at her desk and completes the tasks sheâs asked for. Sheâs finally going to be allowed to talk in one of the presentations and she making sure her part is absolutely perfect.
It goes more than well, they give her an official spot to continue to work closer with them and on the inside sheâs screaming hell yeah but on the outside she tries to look as composed as possible as she smiles and bows deeply in gratitude.
Gwiboon is so happy and she wants to share the news with Jinki first, sheâs been part of this company for a long time and itâs taken her ages to finally get higher in ranks and she shudders at the times when she was just running around organizing notes and handing out coffee and thatâs why whenever she spots entry level ladies or males surrounding her she makes sure to give them a small hand because thatâs what she desperately wanted when she was new and never got. They always tend to be nicer with helping you to when they know youâre not out to get them, sheâs heard horrible stories of how they treat people in companies and sheâs glad nothingâs happened to her she was always fast and precise.
Gwiboon stops by at Jinkiâs favorite Thai food place and orders his favorite, while she doesnât care so much for it, she makes sure to get the things he eats best. She opted out from driving to work today and she took the subway so she waits for a taxi to pull by her so she can go to hospital.
Her heels click loudly while she walks through the door, she fixes her skirt and heads to the reception desks.
âOh hi Gwiboon,â Sulli greets her. âI havenât seen you around here in a while.â
Something in Gwiboon stirs but she just smiles widely, âBeen very busy lately, thankfully.â
âThatâs so great,â Sulli smiles. âHere to see Jinki?â
âYeah,â she nods. âI know this is usually the time he eats when he can so I wanted to come by.â
âNo problem,â Sulli types away and before long she has a vistor pass sticking onto her pink sweater and she grabs at the food she placed on the desk and walks her way.
Gwiboon lights up when she sees Jinki from where she is through the window, sheâs getting ready to knock but something stops her when she see him smiling and laughing along with Taeyeon, she leans in to feed him something and Gwiboon wants to throw the door open and stake her claim, sheâs seen the way sheâs stared at Jinki in the past, she knows thereâs a crush there but she just drops her gaze and walks away. She doesnât want to embarrass him and it could have been nothing.
She doesnât get far when she hears her name. Her braid hits her face when she turns to see Minho walking her way, calling after her.
âGwiboon!â
âHi Minho,â she greets him.
âWhere are you going?â
âI was just about to go home,â she says slowly.
âWere you looking for Jinki?â he asks.
âYeah but he seemed busy,â she says weakly.
âThat canât be right I was just with him a few minutes ago, I was just about to head back. Câmon,â he smiles at her.
âItâs okay,â she says.
âHeâll be happy to see you; with all the work weâve been doing around here Iâve noticed heâs been sleeping here some days.â
She nods, âI really donât want to be a bother...â
âYou wonât be,â he smiles at her sincerely. âCome on. Iâll go with you.â
Gwiboon feels nervous and she hasnât felt this way in a long time, it makes her feel sick but she follows Minho anyway.
âLook who I found,â Minho says in a cheerful voice when he pushes the door open.
Thereâs several people in the room and they all look towards him when Gwiboon moves from behind him and bow, âHello.â
She can hear several Hellos and oh Gwiboon we havenât see you and hiâs coming her way and she feels a bit embarrassed. Her nerves donât even subside when she see Jinki get up from his spot next to Taeyeon to greet her.
âHey,â he says softly, kissing her forehead.
âI,â she starts, bringing the take out box and placing it towards chest. âI brought you your favorite food.â
Jinki brightens up and he takes her hand, âLetâs go eat it.â
âWhy didnât you get any of your favorites?â he asks her between slurps.
She laughs at the sound, moving forward to clean his mouth. âI didnât really think. I just wanted to make sure to get you what you liked. You havenât been home and I.. I donât know.â
âGwiboon,â Jinki says softly.
âIâm sorry,â she shakes her head. âI get you have to work and save peopleâs lives and Iâm so proud of you. I just miss you sometimes.â
Jinki doesnât say or do anything other than nod.
âAlso I have news,â she says half-heartedly.
âYeah?â
âRemember that I used to complain about how I never get to be part of presentation or pitch ideas?â
Jinki nods.
âI finally got to today and they said that Iâm welcomed and part of the adverting team, Jinki. Iâm finally getting somewhere,â she canât hold the excitement in her voice.
Jinki stands up from where he is and pulls her from her chair and pulls her into a big hug. âSee, you just had to keep pushing.â
âI know.â
Everything feels so smooth and nice for the next couples of days with Jinki. He comes home more often than not, she sends him texts throughout the day and she canât help the smiles that appear on her face when she sees his name under her notification. Itâs been probably a week and a half since theyâve gotten intimate and she know how people like to pretend girls donât want it but they do and she does, she has needs and when Jinki comes home earlier that night she canât help but jump on him the moment he walks through the door.
Jinkiâs taken a back when his back hits the glass door, âWhoa there,â he laughs, looking down at her.
âI miss you,â she says low and seductively and she presses herself against Jinki.
He doesnât miss a beat, he tears his jacket off and throws it to the side, grabbing at her waist and pulling her up towards him. Gwiboon wraps her legs around his hips and kisses his neck deeply, she can hear Jinkiâs small moan and she smirks.
He nearly throws her onto the couch and in moment heâs on top of her, kissing her deeply and his hands roaming around her.
âTake it off,â she says, touching under Jinkiâs shirt, pulling the thing off him. Clothes goes flying in direction directions.
âOh fuck,â Jinki groans. âThe condoms are upstairs.â
âIâm on birth control, Jinki,â she says, rubbing herself closer to him. âDonât worry about it.â
âGwiboon,â he moans. âI should anyway, we can never be too safe.â
âWeâll be fine,â she smiles at his worries.
âOkay,â he leans down to kiss her, she can feel him lining himself towards her entrance.
âYou ready?â
She nods, adjusting herself.
âYou okay?â
âFuck,â she moans, her walls getting used to Jinki once again. He feels so good and big and fuck why do they ever take breaks from this? âYes, move already.â
And he does, he thrust slowly at first, slowly but so, so deep, and then heâs hitting her in all the right angles. Gwiboon doesnât have sheet to hold to and she just arches against the couch and her nails clawing at Jinkiâs back.
âYou feel so good,â he moans into her ear and she shivers as she leans up to pull him down into a passionate kiss.
âRight there,â she yells as she feels her stomach tighten and sheâs just so close.
Once theyâre done with their highs, they both laugh at each other lightly.
âWe should clean up,â Jinki says, moving off of her.
âIâm tired,â she whines. âYou wore me out.â
Jinki kisses her again before getting up and throwing on his boxers and handing her his long shirt for her to wear, she puts it on as Jinki collects their clothes and throws them into their laundry room, next he hauls her from the couch and throw her over his shoulder.
âJinki,â she yells, she tries to pretend like sheâs mad but her laugh gives her away.
âCome on.â
Jinki walks them towards their bathroom and finally letâs Gwiboon down. She pulls out a few towels from the small closet in their bathroom as Jinki turns on the water. They both strip from the little clothes they have on and shower together. They just had sex but this feels so much more intimate. Jinkiâs fingers play with her wet hair until he finally places shampoo into it and washes her hair for her, she helps wash his back and after theyâre nice and clean they just stand under the warm water closely together.
Gwiboon hasnât gone out with one of her friends from college in a long time both of them being so busy but she contacted her the other day, saying she has big news and wants to tell her in person.
Jinkiâs still sleeping, a long day that he had from the day before, she wants to wake him and tell him that sheâll be back later but she doesnât want to wake him up for even a second so she leaves his phone by him and texts him a message telling him where sheâs going see he can see it when he wakes up.
âJessica!â Gwiboon nearly falls on her way to greet her friends.
Jessica gets up from her seat and holds out her arms for a hug. âWow, you look amazing,â
Gwiboon walks in her arms and smiles happily. âYou do too.â
They sit in front of one another and pull out the menus the waitress kindly left on the table from. They order their food and wait for their drinks to come once they dive in a conversation.
âI feel like we havenât seen each other in age.â
âItâs because we havenât,â Gwiboon teases, bringing the straw of her drink to her lips. âWhatâs the big news!â
Gwiboon nearly spits her drink. âYouâre what?â
âIâm getting married!â
âThatâs incredible,â Gwiboon jumps up from her seat and tugs her up to hug her tightly. âIâm so happy for you.â
Once theyâre done hugging they sit back down, spotting their waitress coming over with their dishes.
âI also want you to be a bridesmaid.â
âWhat? Really?â
âOf course,â Jessica grabs her hand. âYou mean a lot to me. I need you to be part of my wedding.â
âOkay! Iâll do it.â
âIâm surprised youâre not engaged or married yet,â Jessica laughs. âAre you and Jinki still together?â
âI,â Gwiboon frowns. âYes we are.â
âMarriage isnât for everyone anyway,â she smiles.
Her conversation with Jessica is thatâs all on her mind for the next few days.
Jinki and Gwiboon have been together for nearly six years and there has never been a sign that Jinki was going to propose and Gwiboon has always said school and work first and he has his place at his job and Gwiboon is finally getting somewhere but she pushes those thoughts aside until she canât.
âJinki,â Gwiboon rolls to around to face him.
âYeah?â
âAre we ever going to get married?â
âThatâs a stupid question, Gwiboon.â Jinki answers.
Gwiboon can tell that Jinki sees the hurt in her eyes because his expression drops from indifferent to concern and she doesnât even say anything or fight or yell or cry, she simply gets out of their bed and pulls on some pants and goes for the door.
âThatâs not how I meant it Gwiboon!â he yells after her.
Gwiboon can feel herself being childish. Maybe itâs obvious that theyâre meant to be married theyâve been together for so long and itâs just not their time right now but Jinkiâs answer hurt her heart. It crushed her in a way that she never thought Jinki could. Itâs been eating at her for days and she finally asked and she got a worse answer than she ever expected.
âGwiboon?â Jonghyun opens the door surprised. âWhoa, why are you crying?â
Sheâs led into the house, Jonghyun pulling her close and she rest her head on his lap as he pets her hair, when she finally calms down she speaks.
âI asked Jinki if weâre ever going to get married,â she lets out a hiccup before she continues. âAnd he said that was a stupid question.â
âIâm sorry,â he says.
âHe said thatâs not what he meant but weâre in no shape to get married, Jonghyun. This is the first time in a long time that we havenât fought and today I just didnât fight back. Iâm tired. Itâs like when I was little and I broke my momâs favorite china and as much as I tried to glue it back together it kept falling apart and there was no way you could miss the cracks. We're like that sometimes. We're my mom's old broken china.â
âGwiboon?â
âYeah?â
âI donât want to hurt you more than you already are butâŠâ
âSpit it out, Jjongâ
âDonât you think maybe itâs better if you and Jinki go your separate ways?â
She cracks. The idea of letting go of Jinki throws her into a fit of tears and she can barely see, she clings on Jonghyun and itâs a reality that could come true maybe neither of them are ready to be the brave one to do it because itâs all comfort. Theyâre comfort.
âI love him so much,â she cries out. âI love him, Jonghyun.â
He pats her back, âMaybe sometimes love isnât enough.â
âIt has to be.â
âCan I tell you something?â he asks.
Gwiboon finally sits up and looks at Jonghyun through her blurry sight. âGo ahead.â
âWant to know why me and Minho broke up?â
âYou said you lost interest in each other after a while.â
He shakes his head, âThat wasnât it. He-,â Jonghyun pauses. âMinho had this whole life planned out. Ideas behind ideas that were brilliant for him but not for me and we couldnât find our way around them. While he likes to be planned and goal oriented, I donât. So after a while I noticed that I didnât fit in his plan,â he sighs. âSo as much as we loved each other we had to close the door our relationship because it wasnât enough.â
âJonghyun,â she latches herself onto him. âIâm sorry.â
âItâs going to be okay, you know. Youâre the strongest person Iâve ever known and you know what youâre doing. You know what you want and what you love and maybe itâll get better. Maybe this is a small trail in your relationship that you have to overcome.â
âI just donât know anymore.â
âYou donât have to,â he pulls away slightly, tucking Gwiboonâs hair behind her ear. âI just donât like seeing my best friend constantly being hurt by the man she claims to love.â
After a long talk and a movie, Gwiboon finally collects herself and drives herself home. She takes a deep breath before unlocking her house and sheâs startled by the noise coming from the living room, thinking Jinki would be sleeping in their room. She carefully slips off her shoes, and throws her bag onto the floor, as she silently walks towards the light in the dark, she finds the light switch and lights the room up, Jinki glances her way and they both freeze. He finally pats the spot next to him and she gets closer until she sits down next to him, folding her leg under her.
âI really didnât mean it that way, you know.â Jinki tells her. âIt caught me off guard and I didnât think thatâs something we would want right now.â
Gwiboon bites her lip nodding, âIâm sorry for asking so suddenly.â
âNo,â Jinki reaches for her hand. âIâm the one that should say sorry. I saw how much you were battling to even ask the question and instead of saying something that would comfort you, I made it worse. I tried to lighten the mood but I didnât do it in the right way.â
âItâs okay,â she squeezes his hand.
âWhat brought this on?â
âI met Jessica. You remember my friend from college?â
âOf course.â
âShe asked me to go to eat brunch with her and I went when you were sleeping from a long day at work. She told me she was getting married.
âThatâs amazing.â
âThen,â she stops. âShe said she was surprised I wasnât married yet and I was confused by it. She asked if we were still together and I told her we are but weâre not married and she told me marriage isnât for everyone anyway. And that got me thinking.â
âHmm.â
âI love you, Jinki.â
âI love you too, Gwiboon.â
Gwiboon squeezes Jinkiâs hand a little, âIâm sorry.â

Something in Jinki crashes down upon hearing the next few words. He can feel something climb up his throat but he does nothing but bow deeply, thanking the doctor for all she's done for him. The months of helping him so the best outcome could result from all of this but sadly that's not what was given. She gives him a sad smile as she walks him out and wishes him luck with his future. He swallows hard and nods slowly.
"I'm so sorry, Lee Jinki. You wonât be able to sing again."
Jinki climbs into his own car and slams his head against the wheel. His heart breaking as he repeats the words You wonât be able to sing over and over again. He never thought an apology would break his heart.
He doesn't do anything but turn on the ignition of his car and pull out of the parking spot. He takes a deep breath before he decides where he wants to go. He's not in the right state of mind to go back to the dorm, he's probably not in the right place to even drive but he does anyway. He's on the road for hours before he gets to his parents' house.
He gathers himself from the front seat and quietly taps the front door three times. It doesn't take long for his mother to open the door for him. Once she appears into his sight it only takes seconds before Jinki throw himself into her arms. She makes a tiny sound when he engulfs her but she doesn't let him go until he feels the need to move from the front door and onto their couch. He simply rests his head on her small lap and she plays with his hair as he sobs and he can't hear anything over his shattered heart and his mom's soft I love you.
He feels like a failure. He feels like everything he's ever worked for has been for nothing. All the years of training, all the blood, sweat and tears to get to where he is feels so far away. He wants to wake up from the nightmare, he wishes with everything in his being that it isn't true. That he'll wake tomorrow and he'll be able to sing again.
He knows he should tell his manager where he is, he didnât even want Jinki to do this alone but he practically begged him to let him go alone. He needed to do this alone. He thinks about calling but he knows how he sounds right now and he doesnât want to worry anyone right now. He shoots a simple text of âat my momâs for the nightâ his way and he turns off his phone.
"I feel like I failed them.â He says nearly crying all over again.
"My son," she brings him into a hug. "you are so many things but being a failure isn't one."
When the sun sets he finds himself in his room and while he longs for comfort, he finds nothing but sadness. It feels like ages since he was lying on the same bed dreaming about becoming a singer and all the hard work he had to take part in to make it happen. The memories feel like a burden, they feel heavy and full of sorrow. Â By some miracle heâs able to fall asleep that night. Early the next morning, he eats breakfast quietly with his mom as she turns on the television so they can watch the morning news. When heâs done he washes the dishes and then gives his mom a big hug and a kiss while he promises to come back soon.
Jinki doesnât know to break it to anyone. When he walks into the dorm, the one they all share once again, he feels awful. Â He sees all the shoes piled up by the door and his heart stings a little remembering how theyâre all there once again because of him. Jonghyun and Taemin had been living with their parents for some time and Kibum was planning on finding his own place but the moment they knew he needed surgery Kibum decided to stay, then Jonghyun and Taemin without being asked or thinking it over made their way back to their rooms. They wanted to be there for him.
It breaks him a little thinking of a way to start⊠how can he even form the words to let them know what theyâve built up for the past few years isnât going to be the same anymore? SHINee will stay. Thereâs no way their company is going to let them disband just because of him, but theyâre not going to be the same. Theyâre going to be missing someone and itâs going to be him. Itâs going to be the one thatâs supposed to guide them through the dark, hold their hand through the pain, pull them up not push them down. Itâs all his fault, everything is going to change and itâs because of him.
He has to tell them. They are all aware that this month he was going to be told about the fate of not only his voice but also the groupâs and itâs killing him that he canât put this off for longer. He wishes he could. He longs to be able to turn the sad news into good news. News that wonât make headlines in sorrow but news in happiness, that heâs coming back. But thatâs not the case and will never be the case. He decides heâs going to start with one of the members and work his way through all of them, itâs not something he can just get them around a table and announce it. The news has to be broken differently to each of them because while they make a whole, theyâre different in many ways and itâs not fair to catch them all off guard at the same time.
Jinki ponders on it for the rest of the day. Thinking about who he should tell first. He thinks about Minho, itâd be easy to tell Minho, the one whoâs noticeably the most supportive out of all of them. The one that shows up to all the membersâ activities and isnât afraid to show his care for people. It still makes him laugh that SM decided to give Minho this tough image when Minho is nothing more than a fluffy marshmallow ready to love all.
Then he thinks about Kibum⊠how it would be to break the news to him first. Kibum who looks after all of them even when he doesnât mean to. He fusses and yells, he wants the best for all of them even if sometimes itâs not expressed in the best way. Kibum who despite acting like he doesnât wears his heart on his sleeve yet he does. His facial expressions always exposing how he feels despite the words he might utter.
It gets harder as he thinks of a way of telling Taemin, whoâs so young and has so much ahead of him and heâs only going to hold him back. The one that makes them all laugh without trying much. Or the one that they like to dote on the most and encourage him the most because he was thrown into the limelight so young. Taemin who all of them have practically watched grow up before his eyes.
It stings the most to thinking about telling Jonghyun. He doesnât even know how he would ever say the words to him. Jonghyun who means the most to him. The one that looks at him as if he makes the sun rise every morning. His eyes start to water as he imagines himself pulling him aside and telling him that he canât be by side all the time anymore. He canât be there for him on tours when he needs someone to boost his energy or a shoulder to nap on. He wonât be able to drag him through airports, holding his hand because heâs basically sleep walking. Or be able to listen to him late at night fussing over song lyrics to share among all of them. Jonghyun⊠how can he tell his Jonghyun. The one that theyâre not anything officially but theyâre not nothing either. Heâs something to Jonghyun and Jonghyun is something to him.
Jinki acts like nothingâs wrong for the next few days, he acts like everythingâs normal. Watching television with Jonghyun, letting Minho and Taemin beat him in video games, helping Kibum set the table or buying take out when heâs too lazy to cook for them or when none of them feel like helping him out. He hides the fact that heâs breaking on the inside. He notices the observant glances that they give him from time to time but they donât say anything. Maybe theyâre scared to break the good thing they have going on or maybe theyâre respecting his privacy. Either way, Jinkiâs kind of glad because he doesnât have it in him to say what he feels.
It doesnât last long, though.
Jinki canât sleep. He tosses and turns all but he canât get comfort. He fluffs his pillow to try to make it more comfortable but nothing works. He then tries to sleep without one and his neck feels off. He just stares at the wall until he hears his door open.
âJinki?â he can hear Kibumâs voice ask quietly.
âYeah?â
âOkay, youâre up.â Kibum turns on the light.
Jinki sits up from his bed and pats a spot in front of him. âCome sit.â
Jinki looks at Kibum. And really looks at him for the first time in a while. Itâs not like he doesnât know his facial structure. Kibumâs sharp features, his feline eyes, his sharp cheek bones, his dainty mouth. But he stares at how tired he looks and how exhausted his body positions himself.
âYouâve been working lately,â Jinki tells him.
âNo harder than you,â Kibum smiles, a little sleepy. His eyes not matching the way his mouth curves.
JInkiâs mind clicks and he knows that he has to tell someone before he explodes and Kibum as always has the best timing. Heâs always had the knack at finding Jinki when he was drowning in his own thoughts and helping him climb out of them.
Jinki takes a deep breath. âIâm sad about something.â
Kibumâs eyes soften and he makes sure to get closer to him, he grabs Jinkiâs hand and strokes the palm with his slim fingers. âYou can tell me. You know that, right?â
Jinki nods, âI know. Iâm just scared.â
âWhy?â
âBecause once I say what I have to. It becomes real.â
Kibum nods, âAre you not ready?â
Jinki thinks for a second before replying, âI donât think Iâll ever be if Iâm honest.â
âYou can say it when youâre ready, even if it takes years beyond years. Iâll be ready to listen.â
That gives Jinki comfort and in his heart he knows there wouldnât be anyone more perfect than Kibum to tell first. It takes him a long time before heâs able to open his mouth again. Heâs repeats what he wants to tell Kibum over and over again in his head but heâs too afraid to open his mouth, too paralyzed to begin to form a sentence out loud. All while Kibum remains patiently by his side. It feels like years before he finally says it.
âI canât sing anymore.â
Jinki doesnât even realize the heavy breath he lets out once the words fly out of his mouth because it turns into a heavy sob. Someone other than his mom finally knows and heâs bending over into his lap, gasping for air because it feels so real. It isnât a nightmare that he wishes it was. Itâs his life now. Heâs going to go without singing. Heâs going to have to leave part of his identity behind. All heâs known for years now is gone just like that.
He can feel Kibum rubbing his back but he doesnât offer many words other than telling him Itâs okay to cry.
âI-I,â Jinki chokes back a sob, his head still buried in his hands. âI t-tried so hard.â
The tears donât stop and he canât get any words out other than Iâm sorry over and over again.
âJinki,â he hears Kibum whisper despite his loud sobs. âI love you. I know how hard you tried. Please, know I love you.â
That only makes him cry harder because despite feeling like heâs breaking he has someone so kind by his side reminding him that heâs still loved. He moves his hands from his face and latches himself onto Kibum, pulling him into a hug and practically wetting the shoulder part of his shirt with big wet tears.
Kibum holds him until his sobs just turn into shaky breaths.
âIâm so sorry,â Jinki breathes once more before pulling away and looking at Kibum in the eyes, hoping he can see how sorry he truly he feels. He doesnât miss the redness in Kibumâs eyes knowing well that heâs been crying too. Silently. But tears were shed and he canât help but feel slightly guilty for pressuring Kibum into being strong for him.
âYou donât have to apologize for something that isnât your fault, youâre aware of that right?â
âBut it is.â
âItâs not,â Kibum puts his hands on Jinkiâs shoulder. âWhat happened isnât your fault. It will never be your fault.â
âIâm sorry.â
âDonât apologize to me anymore, Jinki. We apologize when weâre at fault or when we do something wrong and youâve done nothing wrong.â
Jinki nods.
Kibum moves his fingers to Jinkiâs face, wiping away tears still streaming down his cheeks. âWe made a promise a few years ago and it stays. Weâll be by each otherâs side even in the dark.â
They stay in Jinkiâs room until the sun comes up. Kibum letting Jinki use his lap as a head rest just like Jinkiâs mother did a few days back. Every once in a while he lets out a shaky breath and Kibumâs ready to soothe his back in comfort, making sure he knows heâs there for him if he needs to let out more tears. He falls asleep that way and itâs the first time since he was given the news that he didnât feel like his world was falling apart.
When he wakes up the next morning, his heart doesnât feel as heavy as if has the past few days and he breathes in an easy breath because thatâs probably what he needed for some time now, to let someone know. He doesnât remember how he got under his bedâs sheets but he doesnât think about it too much. Jinki changes shirt realizes the one heâs in is sweaty and full of dried tears and makes his way to the kitchen.
Minhoâs the only one sitting there, with his iPad in front of his bowl of whatever heâs having looking at highlights from some team that Jinki probably knows nothing about.
âHey,â Jinki says softly as he passes Minho and goes to get himself a glass of juice.
âGood morning,â Minho smiles at him, pulling out a chair for him.
âWho won?â he seats himself.
âOh I donât know,â Minho laughs. âI was just looking at this amazing goal.â
They both silently before Jinki opens his mouth again. âWhere are the others?â
Minho looks up at him, thinking for a moment. âKibum went on a walk with comme des and garcon and the other two are snoring in their room probably.â
Jinki nods.
âWhy?â Minho asks.
âJust asking,â Jinki breathes out.
Minho closes his iPad and moves his dish out of the way, turning his body to focus solely on him. âIs everything alright?â
âIâd be lying if I said yes,â Jinki says not meeting Minhoâs eyes.
Minhoâs eyebrows furrow, âAre you alright?â
Jinki lets out a long breath, letting himself release it slowly. âYou know my surgery⊠I got the results. Theyâre not good.â
âWhatâd they say?â
âI canât sing anymore, Minho.â
âHyung,â Minhoâs voice sounds a little helpless and he reaches for Jinkiâs hand. âAre they sure?â
âTheyâre positive,â Jinki lets out a small laugh. Minho always the optimist, he thinks
âWho else knows?â
âKibum, I told him last night. If you want to someone to talk about it to, he knows.â
âWhat do you mean?â
âUntil I know how to tell Jonghyun and Taemin you and Kibum can share your thoughts about whatâs happening.â
âHyung, it wonât be like that.â Minho assures him.
âThings are going to change, Minho. Itâs okay.â
Minho gets up from his chair and pulls Jinki up. He wraps himself completely around Jinki and rests his head on his chin, embracing him completely.
Jonghyun walks in, messy hair and glasses hanging from the bridge of his nose. âWhatâs going on?â
âNothing,â Minho continues hugging Jinki. âJust wanted a hug from Jinki-hyung today.â
âYou never hug me like that,â Jonghyun teases.
âYeah, well you smell.â
âI do not!â
Kibum and Minho donât make it obvious that they know something the other two donât know. They act exactly the same, but he does seem them one-night confiding in each other and he can see the sad gazes from both of them and Jinki thinks to himself that itâs okay because he knows if the situation was reversed he would want to talk to someone else about it too.
âMy movie premiere is soon, are any of you going?â Minho questions. Theyâre all seated around the table in front of the TV eating pizza for lunch.
âWhich one?â Jinki asks, knowing heâs filmed a few the past few months.
âWill that affect you going?â Minho asks.
âWell noâŠâ
âOf course it does,â Jonghyun chimes up. âIf itâs the one where youâre the lead we have to bother you for some good seats.â
âJonghyun,â Kibum rolls his eyes.
âWhat?â Jonghyun stares at Kibum. âHis members deserve good seats.â
âIâll go!â Taemin smiles.
âReally?â Minho tilts his head. âYou wonât forget?â
âYou can always remind me,â Taemin grins at Minho.
âYouâll answer your phone?â Minho laughs.
âYou could always just drag him there,â Kibum points out.
âWeâll go, Minho.â Jinki says. âItâll be great.â
Taemin invites him out to eat later that week. Jinki asks if the other are coming and he shakes his head, asking their manager to drive them to eat and Jinki just follows Taemin out the door.
When theyâre seated, Taemin lets his blonde hair fall out of his cap and his arms thread lightly over the menu. Jinki laughs knowing well that Taemin already knows what heâs going to order, itâs always the same thing but he likes to make a show of it as heâs deciding what he wants.
âWhat are you going to get?â Taemin finally asks, pushing the menu at the edge of the table for the waiter to easily get it once they come over.
âFood.â
Taemin laughs. âSame here, weâre basically the same person.â
After theyâre done ordering. They talk about small things and Jinki learns that Taeminâs getting ready to release a solo sometime this year or next and he canât help but smile as Taemin tells him the details, some still up in the air while others definitely happening.
âYouâre going to do amazing, Taemin.â
âYouâre only saying that.â
âNo,â Jinki shakes his head. Iâm sure.â
Taemin smiles.
When the food arrives they donât waste a second before they dive in. They eat silently. The only noise really being heard is the sound of their silverware and the slurps of satisfaction.
âSo,â Taemin clears his throat. âI wanted to ask you something.â
âOkay,â Jinki answers, taking a long sip from his drink.
âYour results were supposed to be announced this month werenât they?â
Jinki blinks.
âTheyâre not good, are they?â
Jinki shakes his head. âTheyâre not.â
Taemin nods, biting his lip and not quite meeting Jinkiâs eyes. âI figured.â
âHowâd you know?â
âI didnât know exactly. I just knew that you were supposed to be told this month and itâs nearly the end of the month and I just figured Iâd ask...â
âIâm sorry, you know.â
âHey,â Taemin shakes his head. âFor what?â
âFor letting all of you down.â
Taemin gives him a serious look. âYouâve done everything you could do for us and yourself, donât feel sorry.â
âKibum said something like you,â Jinki gives him a sad smile.
âHe knows?â Taemin asks surprised.
Jinki nods, âSo does Minho.â
âJonghyun?â
âHe doesnât know. I donât know how bring it up. Thatâs why I didnât tell you yet either, I wasnât sureâŠâ
âYou can tell me anything.â
âI know.â Jinki says softly. âI feel like I can with all of you. I just wasnât ready yet.â
âI respect that.â
âThank you.â
âWhen are you going to tell Jonghyun?â
âIâll tell him soon.â Jinki sighs. âI just need to figure out how to do it.â
Jonghyunâs laying in his bed when he gets home that night. Jinki can tell he isnât sleeping though. He can see that light from his phone filtering through his blanket. Jinki jumps onto of the bed, making sure not to squish Jonghyun but still lay on top of him at the same time.
Jonghyun fidgets under him and finally peaks his head from the covers grinning at him âYouâre home.â
âWhere else would I be?â
âYou went out,â Jonghyun points out.
âI did,â Jinki states.
âWhatâd you do?â
âTaemin and I went out for some food.â
âYou didnât bring me anything back?â Jonghyun pouts.
âIâm sorry.â
âYou can make it up to me.â
âHow?â Jinki moves from his position to lay next to Jonghyun.
âCuddle me,â he tells Jinki sweetly.
Jinki laughs, pushing the covers down so he can get into his bed properly. He lays flat against his pillow and wraps an arm around Jonghyun who gets close and lays his head on Jinkiâs chest.
âIâve missed you,â Jonghyun breathes.
âIâm always here.â
âI guess. Iâm just busy at night and we donât do this often anymore,â Jonghyun yawns.
âYou should get some rest before you have to go to blue night tonight.â
âIs that okay?â
âMore than okay,â Jinki kisses the tops of Jonghyunâs head.
Jinki drifts off to sleep as well and when he wakes up itâs because Jonghyunâs climbing into bed once more.
âSorry to wake you,â he whispers. âIâm back.â
Jinki just groans before pulling Jonghyun close to him and letting sleep pull him under once again.
Jinki has a meeting at SM the next morning, heâs slightly nervous but at the same time calm. Itâs a relief that he wonât have to say his fate to anyone because the moment he enters to talk about it, theyâll all know. He doesnât know what kind of faces heâll have to deal with and thatâs what makes him nervous. He isnât aware if heâs going to walk into sad faces, angry faces, faces that are uninterested and just there to do their job.
His manager presses a few buttons once theyâre in the elevator and up they go. They take a few turns before theyâre in a large conference room with six people waiting for him. They all stare at him expectedly and Jinki bows as he takes a seat at the edge of the long table.
âOnew,â Lee Soo-Man greets him.
âHello, sir.â
âSorry to hear the news.â
Jinki swallows, looking down at the table. âIâm sorry for causing such bad news.â
A lady across of Jinki begins to speak and that it moves his attention from the table towards her. âWhat we have to figure out is how to spin the news. Itâs either to list you under an indefinite hiatus or for you to leave the group. What are your thoughts?â
Jinki lifts his eyebrows in surprise. His thoughts? âIâll be honest. I donât know what I would do either. I forever want to be part of SHINee but I also donât want to hurt my members and if that means me having to leave, Iâll go.â
They all nods as his words hang in there other.
âSpoken like a true leader,â someone says.
âWeâll give it a few days before the news breaks,â the lady speaks again. Â âWeâll let your managers know and youâll be notified. I suggest you donât read the comments for the first couple of days, while theyâre fresh. Iâd suggest your phone be taken away but youâre a grown man.â
âI understand.â
âWeâre done here,â Lee Soo-Man says to everyone.
They all get up and leave. A few of the ones passing by expressing their sorrows while others are deeply looking into their phone as they exit the room. Jinki waits until they all leave before he stands up himself.
âOnew, wait a second. Iâd like you to come here.â
Jinki gets closer to where the CEO of the company he belongs to sits. âYes, sir?â
âHow are you?â
Jinki open his mouth in surprise. âHonestly or a trained answer?â
âHonestly.â
âIâm scared, tired, and a little hungry.â
Lee Soo-Man lets out a loud laugh. âMake sure to eat once you leave. You have every right to be scared but know that while youâre under contract here weâll find something for you. We have to do whatâs best for the group. Business in business. But you might have gotten into this company because of your voice but you have a lot to offer, kid.â
âThank you.â
âGive it some time. Figure yourself out.â
âI will.â
When Jinki gets home he feels a big sense of relief. He canât quite explain it. But thereâs been a pain on his shoulder bugging him for weeks and itâs suddenly⊠gone. It freaks him out a bit because he feels like he should feel the pressure on his shoulders but he can now point it down as stress. Heâs been stressed about the fate of his group and his own and hearing that he has more to offer than just his voice makes him feel like heâs going to be okay.
âJinki,â his manager walks into his room two days later. âNext week. Thereâs one person left, get to it before the news does.â
Jinki swallows because he knows exactly what that means. He pulls out a sweatshirt from one of this drawers and grabs his wallet from his dresser.
âHey Jonghyun,â Jinki walks into Jonghyun and Taeminâs room. âWant to go get ice cream with me?â
âIce cream?â Jonghyun smiles. âOkay.â
âLetâs go.â
âWant to come Taemin?â Jonghyun asks.
Taemin looks Jinkiâs way and he gives a small shake of his head so he knows. Taemin then looks at Jonghyun. âIâm alright. If you want to bring me something back, I wouldnât be against that though.â
âWeâll bring you something back,â Jinki offers.
âSee you.â
They decide to walk. Itâs not too far from their dorm and the fresh air feels nice against their skin.
âWhat kind of ice cream are you going to get?â Jinki smiles towards Jonghyun.
âAre you paying?â Jonghyun grins.
âI am.â
âIn that case Iâll get three different kinds of flavors,â Jonghyun laughs.
âDonât give yourself a stomach ache.â
The walk is short and in no time theyâre at the ice cream shop, ordering their treats and placing all kinds of toppings on top.
âDo you think this is too much?â Jinki laughs, his ice cream practically being drowned in chocolate fudge.
âI think you need a bit more,â Jonghyun teases.
âLetâs go swing. I want to eat this ouside,â Jinki says once theyâre checked out and licking away.
Jonghyun nods.
The playground isnât full of children and Jinki isnât surprised. Itâs a Tuesday evening, most children are either studying, eating dinner, or getting ready for bed. There are a few kids not too far playing a game with a small ball in the streets. The playground, other than them, is empty. Theyâre a pair of swings that they seat themselves in. Jonghyun half way down with his treat starts pumping his legs while Jinki just sits down sideways to stare at him.
âJonghyun,â Jinki starts. âI need you to know something.â
Jonghyun legs hit the floor as he brings himself to a stop slowly. âAre you alright? Is something happening?â
âItâs about my voice.â
âWait,â Jonghyun stops him. He doesnât move to look at Jinki, his hands rest on his lap and Jinki can see him take a deep breath before he begins to speak again. âItâs not what we it to be is it?â
Jinki looks at Jonghyun hopelessly.
âI canât-â
âPlease donât say it,â Jonghyun nearly cries.
Jinki doesnât but he continues talking. âTheyâre releasing articles about it next weekâŠâ
âSo soon?â
âNo,â Jinki shakes his head. âItâs been a few weeks since Iâve known.â
âWeeks?â
âYes.â
âDo the others know?â
Jinki gulps. âThey do.â
âSo Iâm the last one to know?â Jonghyunâs voice cracks a bit and Jinki canât help but feel his heart clench.
âJonghyun, I didnât know how to tell you.â
He can tell Jonghyun wants to say something but he swallows his words and lets out a breath through his nostrils.
âI canât do this right now,â Jonghyun gets up, looking around for something. Jinki canât tell what but once he starts walking towards the trash bin Jonghyun stops and whispers. âI have to get ready for work later tonight.â
âJonghyun...â Jinki tries to call after him.
But heâs already walking ahead of him. He doesnât look back at Jinki as he throws away whatâs rest of the treat he was eagerly eating only moments ago and Jinki just watches him walk away. Jinki takes a deep breath before he gets up himself, he throws away his own ice cream, suddenly not in the mood to finish it and walks a few steps behind Jonghyun.
Jonghyun opens the door once theyâre in front of their dormâs door and Jinki makes sure not to hover over him. Jonghyun blazes past Minho once heâs inside almost knocking the younger over.
âHey whatâs his pr-â but once Minho sees Jinkiâs face he stops his question. âHe knows now, doesnât he?â
Jinki canât form words so he just nods.
âCome on,â Minho pulls him over to their couch. âweâre watching Kibumâs favorite drama.â
âYou enjoy it,â Kibum whines.
âYeah, yeah.â Minho rolls his eyes.
Itâs 2:30 in the morning when he feels his bed dip. He feels someone wraps their arm around his stomach and he turn slightly to see who it is.
âJonghyun?â he asks, rubbing his eyes.
âIâm sorry about earlier.â
âItâs okay.â
âItâs not.â
âWe donât have to talk about that right now,â Jinki turns fully over to face Jonghyun. âYou look tired letâs get some sleep.â
They donât talk about it. At all. It saddens Jinki but he doesnât try to push it either. There are moments when he tries to bring it up, gently trying to get Jonghyun to talk about but itâs like he is acting that the conversation that happened the other day didnât happen. Heâll brush him off or heâll change the subject quickly and Jinkiâs left a little frustrated.
Jinki wakes up late the day the news unfolds all over the media. He didnât mean to and he didnât even know what exact day it was going to be released either but he isnât out of bed until noon. He tries to look for his phone but he canât seem to find it. He shrugs, grabbing a towel from the closet and goes to the bathroom to take a shower, letting the warm water splash against his back. He lightly messages his neck and washes his body as the steams builds around the room.
Jinki shake his wet hair once he gets out of the bathroom and spots three of them all silently watching television side by side.
âHey,â Taemin greets him. âHow are you?â
âIâm good,â Jinki laughs. âWhy wouldnât I be?â
âYou didnât see?â Minho asks.
âSee what?â
âItâs nothing,â Kibum says quickly. âCome watch with us.â
âNo, tell me. Whatâs going on?â
Taemin looks between Minho and Kibum before he speaks. âThe news broke today.â
âOh,â is all Jinki can really say.
He looks at the three of them noticing that one of them is missing. He looks at the kitchen to see that no oneâs there and heâs about to walk towards Jonghyun and Taeminâs room when Taeminâs voice stops him.
âHe isnât there, hyung. Iâm sorry.â
Jinki bites his bottom lip and decides to go into their room anyways. The room is a bit messy and he wishes he was surprised but heâs not. It actually makes him smile a little that Taemin and Jonghyunâs messiness will probably never change over the years. His fingers brush against the books on Jonghyunâs dressers and he hears a small buzz come underneath a shirt. He moves the shirt away to spot his phone.
âHe didnât want you to look at the comments,â he hears Taemin say behind him.
Jinki turns around to see Taemin leaning against the door, staring at him carefully.
âWhen did he take it?â
âLast night,â Taemin answers. âWhen you told him he demanded to know what day they were releasing the news and decided he was going to take your phone so you wouldnât read the news.â
âWhy?â
âHe wants to protect you. He may not be able to talk about it. But his heartâs in the right place. Just give him time.â
Jinki feels continuous buzzing in his hand and he decides to put the phone back. His heart warms at the small gesture made by Jonghyun and the words that Taemin just shared with him. He leaves their room right after. Not joining the others to watch television but just going to lay in bed alone. He pulls out his laptop though. Even if Jonghyun wanted to protect him and he wants to get the illusion that he did he still needs to see what was written. He needs to know so with shaky hands he types in SHINee into naverâs search engine and his heart stop at the top articles.
BREAKING NEW: SHINeeâs Leader Onew put under indefinite hiatus, will no longer promote with group
Earlier last year, SHINeeâs Leader Onew, age 26, was put under throat surgery. It was said that the surgery was a huge success and he was going to make progress over the following months under recovery. Sadly, not too long ago was the leader informed that his singing career is now a thing of the past. His fellow members, Jonghyun, Key, Minho, and Taemin all stand by him and while they are sad that their fellow leader will no longer promote with them they are happy that heâs at least healthly. Please look forward to both Onewâs and SHINeeâs future activities.
[+4,541,-544] What???????????? No!!!
[+4,054,-300] This canât be happening. SHINee is five.
[+3,994,-425] My heart breaks
[+3,845,-254] Iâll miss oppaâs sweet voice
[+2,000,-80] Iâm crying TT
Jinkiâs hands start to sweat as he continues reading comments, all expressing their heartbreak and tears. It stings the most when some of them say they donât how what theyâre going to do when they listen to song and they wonât be able to hear him live again. He feels his heart being slammed again and again as his eyes continue to skim down the page.
âHey,â he hears Minho enter his room. âI know what youâre looking at. Donât read that.â
âI have to,â Jinki tells him.
âNo, you donât.â Minho reaches for his laptop and closes it for him. âDonât do this to yourself.â
Jinki just stares at him.
âCome on,â Minho pulls him up from his bed. âletâs go play a new video game I got yesterday.â
âAre you asking me because Iâm the only other person you can beat other than Jonghyun?â
âNoooo,â Minho tries to hide his laughter. âYouâll like this one. I got it especially for you.â
Nothing changes immediately after the news finally breaks to everyone. When Jinki finally found his phone back in his room he was able to see a lot of messages from other idols heâs close with and friends that heâs been meaning to tell himself. He feels a little guilty that he didnât get to them first but Jinki would like to think that they know him enough to know that he has a hard time telling people things.
At the dorm things continue smoothly. Jinki finds a liking in going on walks with Kibum in the mornings now but other than that nothing is different. They donât treat him like heâs fragile which he was scared of happening and they donât treat him like heâs useless either which he knew they wouldnât but it still had crossed his mind.
It isnât until SHINee is preparing for a comeback that Jinki suddenly feels out of place. Jinki doesnât know what to do with himself or where to start. Itâs also as they start to prepare that he realizes Jonghyun still hasnât accepted the small fact that Jinki wonât be joining them this time around or heâs built a bubble of denial that someone will soon have to pop.
âStop making this difficult for him,â he can hear Kibum sneer at him. He can almost picture the death glare Kibum is most likely giving Jonghyun with that tone.
âIâm not trying to make things difficult Iâm trying-â
âStop trying to do anything, Jonghyun. You read the articles. Youâve heard us discuss this. Heâs been trying to talk to you about this. All of us have but you wonât listen-â
âIâm leaving.â
âJonghyun stop doing this! You need to deal with this.â
âI just,â he hears Jonghyun say softly. âI canât do this right now.â
âIf not now, when?â Kibum practically begs.
âI have to go.â
âJonghyunâŠâ
Once he hears the door close Jinki moves from his bed and opens the door to move into the living room.
He sees Kibumâs sad face but it changes quickly once Kibum spots Jinki. âGood morning,â he greets Jinki with a happy smile. âAre you hungry?â
âI heard.â
Kibum smile falters, he runs his fingers through is hair. âJonghyunâs just having a hard time right now.â
âArenât we all?â Jinki tries to joke.
âCome on,â Kibum nods towards the kitchen. âIâll make you whatever you want.â
As days progress and they start to come home even later, tired, and surrounded by sweat. Always yelling about whoâs going to shower first and Jinki begins to feel awkward. Itâs not that they make it awkward for him at all. They continue to treat him like they always have. They donât try to exclude him. They openly talk about the music theyâre making and Kibum happily shares the designs heâs been working on and asks for his input. They make jokes, snuggle against him, and make sure to let him sleep when he closes his eyes. But he just feels different.
Itâs like when youâre little and you play with your puzzles over and over again and eventually one of them breaks or chips and it doesnât fit anymore. Itâs kind of how he feels right now, heâs part of the whole picture but he doesnât fit the way he used to.
Jinki decides he wants to move out. Itâs an internal struggle that he keeps debating about. Staying makes accepting his fate harder and he thought it wouldnât but it does. Itâs hard to watch them all come home exhausted and sweaty from working out for hours. Itâs suffocating to see them talk about their comeback and ask what do you think and Jinki canât say anything other than youâll be great, youâll do amazing, I believe in you guysbecause they will be great, they will do amazing, he does believe in them but heâs not there.
So he starts to look for a new place to call his own.
âYou sure you want to move?â his manager asks him. âWe could always kick the other four out. Have the dorm all to yourself.â
Jinki laughs, âA great idea, why didnât I think of that?â
âWhatâs the real reason, Jinki? Let me know.â
Jiinki sighs heavily, âI need my space, I guess. Iâm moving on but that doesnât make it any easier.â
âIâll take time,â his manager pats his back. âThey say time heals all wounds.â
âI thought it was love,â Jinki jokes.
His manager lets out a loud laugh. âLet me give you words of wisdom, will you?â
Jinki does it slowly. After he signs a lease with a nice apartment not too far from the dorm but not too close either. Every time the rest are at practice or busy recording or doing their own thing, Jinki will move out stuff from his room. He isnât ready to let them know but it feels nice for him to slowly know he has his own place waiting for him.
âJinki-hyung,â Taemin comes near him one afternoon. He looks freshly clean from a recent shower.
âYes?â
âWhy is your stuff missing?â
Jinki goes a little red, his eyes flickering from where heâs sitting watching TV and the kitchen where the other three are making noises.
âWhat are you talking about?â
âDo you really not see how some of your things are gone? Are you selling them?â
Jinki stands up and nudges Taemin towards the door. Heâs always forget how observant Taemin can be, he would think he would know with how he figured out his news on his own but no. When he wants to be, Taemin realizes more than the others sometimes. Heâs usually zoned out during interviews or he half pays attention to things when theyâre being talked to but he has an eye for noticing.
They both start to put up their shoes as Jinki yells out the door, âWeâll be right back! We need something from the store.â
âBring back ketchup!â he hears Kibum yell. âMinho finished mine!â
âDid not!â
Taemin and Jinki walk silently and slowly until they reach the small store on the corner of their dorm they donât say word.
âOkay,â Jinki starts. âMy stuff is missing but itâs not because Iâm selling it.â
âThen why?â
Jinki lets out a slow exhale, âIâm moving out.â
Taeminâs eyes widen, âMoving out?â
Jinki nods, he can tell that the news is settling into Taemin mind, he canât help but notice the small frown forming onto his lips.
âBut why?â Taemin asks.
âOkayâ Jinki pauses. âI need a bit of time for myself, Taemin. I just need space.â
âAre we hurting you? Are we doing something wrong?â
Always like Taemin, Jinki thinks. Apologizing without knowing if heâs wrong. Â âItâs nothing wrong on any of you or the rests behalf. Itâs for me.â
âThis feels like those break up lines, âitâs not you itâs me.ââ
âYou wonât hate me, right?â Jinki asks.
âWhy would I ever hate you?â Taemin tilts his head in confusion.
âI donât know. Iâm scared that one day you guys could.â
âWe love you.â
âThank you for understanding.â
Jinki moves out a few weeks later. His belongings finally in his new home. He doesnât really say bye to anyone the day he leaves, it seemed pointless because he was going to be back for dinner or to watch TV with them so he just grabs his last bag and letâs one of the managers drop him off to his new place.
It feels quiet once he sits on his couch. It feels a little lonely too. But he feels at peace with himself. Itâs his place and heâs content with his surroundings. Jinki doesnât feel like doing much other than pulling out one of the book heâs been reading so he makes himself a cup of tea and starts to read. He finds himself laughing when he pulls out a blanket and a pillow to get cozy imaging Kibum calling him an old man if he were to see him like this.
Jinki doesnât remember falling asleep but he hears pounding coming from his door and he groggily gets up to see whoâs at his door. He doesnât remember ordering anything or asking anyone to come by so heâs beyond confused. The palms of his hands rub his eyes before he goes for the doorknob.
"Why'd you leave?" are the first words that escape Jonghyunâs mouth when Jinki opens the door.
"What?"
"The dorm,â Jonghyun looks at him as if heâs crazy for not knowing what heâs talking about. âWhyâd you leave the dorm?â
âJong-â
âWe all get home to find that your stuff isnât there anymore. Whyâd you just go?â Jonghyun questions, moving into Jinkiâs new home.
âJonghyun,â Jinki says softly. âTaemin let you guys know I was looking for a place.â
âBut why?â
Jinki sighs, dipping his hands into the pockets of jeans. He doesnât know how he can even begin to explain to Jonghyun that he didnât feel at home anymore at the dorm. It hurt to see them get home from recordings or dance practices. It felt like he was a burden with nothing to offer as they worked hard night and day and he was just at the dorm lying around not doing much other than reading.
âI needed my own place.â
âYou have a place with us,â Jonghyun tells him.
âItâs not like that anymore, Jonghyun.â
Jonghyun just shakes his head, âItâs because youâre making it that way, Jinki.â
âIâm not,â Jinki frowns, his heart racing. âItâs just not like that anymore.â
âIt is.â
âBut itâs not.â
âWhy are you being so difficult?â Jonghyun asks.
âWhat are you talking about?â Jinki asks desperately, trying to figure out whatâs gotten into Jonghyun.
âHow can you just get up and leave the dorms like nothing?â
Jinki canât help but feel his fingers clench in his pocket. This was not how he wanted to spend his first day in his new home. âIt wasnât hard for you to move out a few years back.â
âThatâs different I moved in with my sister and my mom and now Iâm back because of you.â
âYou donât have to do anything for me,â he encounters.
âHow could you say that?â Jonghyun questions.
âSay what?â
âSay that I donât have to do anything for you?â
Jinki sighs, âThings have changed Jonghyun.â
âBecause youâre making them change,â he raises his voice towards Jinki. âStop trying to make things change.â
âThings have changed whether you like it or not, Jonghyun. Itâs not my fault youâre not accepting them.â
âAccepting what?â Jonghyun cries out.
âThat I canât sing!â
âDonât say that,â Jonghyun begs.
âItâs true. I canât sing anymore. I wonât be able to sing anymore.â
âStopâŠâ Jonghyun tries to silence him.
But Jinki wonât be quiet. âTaemin accepts it. Kibum accepts. Minho accepts it. They all do but you canât.â
But it seems that Jonghyun ignores all of his words because he steers off topic, âA leader doesnât just get up leave when things get hard.â
"Donât you get it? I'm not your leader anymore, Jonghyun!" Jinki yells and his hands go flying to his mouth when he hears his own words. He wants to take those words out as soon as they escaped but they're out hanging in the air with no way of climbing back into his mouth.
Jonghyun recoils as if someone was just slapped him across the face but he recovers quickly, his tears already ready to fall. "I didnât know you felt that way. Iâll be leaving now.â
He pushes past Jinki and he can practically feel the sobs that he's holding in as he stops him from leaving.
"Jonghyun," Jinki grabs his arms and turns him around and his heart cracks in two when he's see how much Jonghyun is silent crying, he knows he doesn't have the right but he brings him close to him wrapping his arms around him and he feels Jonghyunâs arms roughly grab him.
"Don't abandon us," he hears Jonghyun's voice crack in between sobs.
Jinki didn't think his heart could break even more. All this time heâs been worried about being left behind he didnât realize itâs like he was leaving them behind. It's feels like the atmosphere around them suddenly breaks. He can see the way Jonghyun is clutching onto him as if Jinki would disappear if he didn't.
âNo,â Jinki starts. âShit. Fuck. Jonghyun, I'm not leaving you. I am to too your leader, I'm sorry.â
Jonghyun canât do anything else than continue to sob into Jinkiâs shirt.
âJonghyun I didn't mean it, I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. â
Jonghyun grabs at the front of Jinkiâs shirt and meshing their lips together. It feels so right and itâs been so long since theyâve kissed like this. They share pecks and cuddles. Jonghyun wll drape himself all over him from time to time but itâs been so long since theyâve kissed like this. Jinki gasps but practically pushes Jonghyun against the wall, desperately trying to erase all possible space between them and pour all his feelings through their kisses. After a while, Jinki slowly moves his lips from Jonghyun and starts to press kisses against his neck. Jonghyun arches his back and tilts his head to giving Jinki more access. Jinki canât handle it when Jonghyun lets out a small moan and he moves away.
âJinki?â Jonghyun looks at him confused.
Jinkiâs heart canât help but skip a beat when he sees how dazed Jonghyun looks, his lips red and slightly swollen from all the kissing. He doesnât answer merely grabs Jonghyunâs hand and pulls him towards his room.
"I have to come to terms to it don't I?" Jonghyun asks the next morning when they've both been slipping in out of sleeping.
"Terms of what?"
"That this is our life now and I can't keep burdening you with it."
"Jonghyun," Jinki pats his cheek softly.
"I've been selfish. It's just,â he pauses. âI don't know what we're going to do without you Jinki. The whole time I've been counting down the days that you'd return to us it's like I was just floating through time waiting to be told âJinkiâs rejoining letâs get back to recordingâ but it never came and it's never going to anymore.â
âItâs okay.â
âEvery time I wrote lyrics and I felt this would suit your best or Kibum would sketch drawings for us and knowing what you would look in best. It's all selfish because you're probably having a harder time than us."
"Itâs okay to feel this way. Itâs a big change for all of us.â
Jonghyun nods. "How are you?"
"I've come to terms to it." Jinki smiles softly. "Honestly it was more rough when I didn't know. It's like I was just going through motions waiting to hear news that would just never come and when I found out my heart broke in two I felt as if my whole career flashed through my eyes. I felt like a failure."
"You're not."
Jinki smiles. "I know, but at the time it's the emotion I felt. After a while it was nice just to finally know and it felt like I was just at a stand-still of where my life was going. It still hurts when I think about it but it's life."
"You're so strong."
"I'm really not," Jinki laughs. âBut I have four others that make this all better.â
âIâm sorry I couldnât help as fast as they could,â Jonghyun hangs his head a little ashamed.
"We're going to be okay, you know." Jinki kisses Jonghyun's cheek. "We've been through too much. But it's going to be different now and we both need to accept that."
"I don't like change."
"Sometimes it's for the better."
Jinki gets into acting he lands role after role and heâs soon considered among the best idol turned into an actor. He continues to get a lot of support from his groupâs fans as well as new fans that donât care much for music but love dramas.
He makes sure to support every comeback his group has, showing up to some music shows and proudly posting on his SNS about their comebacks, posting the teasers of each of them and showing how heâs streaming their songs.
They do it in return for him as they post about his dramas and show up to his movie premieres. Sometimes they all crowd around their dormâs television (thatâs mostly Minho and Kibumâs home now, while he moved out and Jonghyun and Taemin moved back with their parents Kibum didnât find the need to leave Minho alone so he stayed) and watch his dramas together.
It still feels weird sometimes watching SHINee perform without him. More so when they perform their older songs, hearing Jonghyun and Taemin sing his lines with lots of love and care settles the feeling slightly. He always attends the concert they hold in Seoul.
This time although heâs watching from backstage with some of the staff.
"We want you to help us with one more thing!" Jonghyun yells. "We have someone special who we want you to give a lot of love."
Jinkiâs stunned when he sees Jonghyun walking his way, he moves the mic from his lips and stretches out a hand towards Jinki, âCome on.â
Jinkiâs suddenly being pulled onto the stage and is being introduced to the crowd. It goes wild and Jinkiâs heart fills with love.
âPlease help us welcome SHINeeâs Leader Onew!â
The screams get even louder and Jinkiâs cheeks begin to redden from the cheers.
âItâs been a long time since weâve seen each other like this hasnât it?â
The crowd continues to cheer for him.
They talk about his drama all of them praising his acting and trying to one-up one each other on who watches his dramas more. Which then turns into bickering and laughing among all of them like theyâve always act on and off stage.
âWe have one last song to perform for you guys,â Kibum says to the crowd. âI know you all know it. Please sing along with us!â
Jinki starts to walk off the stage but Jonghyun grabs his hand telling him to stay.
Then replay starts to play and their fans sing his part while he dances along with his group and he can't help but feel tears well up in eyes and they keep him there as they say their goodbyes to this tour and they'll see them on the next, throwing their thumbs up and bowing deeply.
"We're going to be okay, you know," Jonghyun whispers to him with a smile as they give one last goodbye to the crowd. âJust like you said.â
âWeâre going to be okay,â Jinki agrees, smiling at the crowd.

Itâs not entirely that theyâre the fucked up. Itâs that they donât work.
Kibum met Jinki at a party.
It was one of those ridiculous huge parties that are thrown by rich kids. Itâs full of sloppy people and music thumping from wall to wall. Kibum didnât want to go originally, itâs not that he doesnât know how to party or how to hang out with the rich kids. Kibum comes from a well off family but by no means does he live in a mansion with seven of the same cars in different colors lined up in front of his house. He just didn't want to spend his last day with Jonghyun before he went off to study a semester abroad this way. He caved at Jonghyunâs puppy eyes and small pout as he kept begging him so of course he couldnât say no.
He loses Jonghyun fairly quick which doesnât surprise him. Jonghyun can be the life of the party, grabbing a beer and mixing well with people. Heâs open to new people something Kibum laughs at because he likes meeting new people too but he has some reserve on who decides to talk to.
Kibum nearly jumps when someone sneaks up from behind him
âSomeone like you doesnât deserve to be standing all alone,â someone speaks beside him.
Kibum turns his head to eye where the voice was coming from. Heâs a little shorter than Kibum but heâs built. His soft brown hair is pushed back and his eyes sparkled in the light. He was sporting a smile that could honestly come from the sun and that made his heart stop a little because no one should have that power. His legs were long and thick and honestly, he could probably do a lot of damage with them. Kibum noticed he had been staring for too long when he heard a soft cough.
âIâm fine,â Kibum says, nonchalantly.
âWant to dance?â the man asks, holding out his hand.
Kibum wants to say no but then the guy he smiles again and his eyes disappear when he does, and if he says no he knows damn well he'll beat himself up about it when he gets home that night. So he grabs his hand, he puts his drink on a near table and he lets himself be dragged to where there is a hoard of people bumping and grinding against each other.
âI didnât quite catch you name,â he tells Kibum when theyâre moving closely.
âI didnât quite get your either,â Kibum tries to flirt.
âJinki,â he smiles. âLee Jinki.â
âKim Kibum.â
âPretty name,â Jinki clicks his tongue. âSuits you.â
They donât dance the night away like stories would tell about people meeting up at a party. But they move to a room somewhere in the big house theyâre in. They did although talk for hours. It felt weird to be able to talk to someone he had just met but it feels right. Something about Jinki drew Kibum in. He thinks itâs the smile or the way Jinki looks at him like heâs saying the most important things in the world, he canât put his finger on it but itâs spent at ease.
-
Soon after Kibum begins to see Jinki more and more and he discovers that the one throwing the party was his. The huge mansion they were in is his parents and that makes him a little nervous because damn, is Jinki beyond rich. The âI can snap my finger and things will be bought in an instanceâ kind of rich.
âWhy didnât you tell me?â
âI didnât think it was a big deal, is it?â
âNo,â Kibum says. âBut it wouldâve been nice to know that I basically pulled away the host from his own party.â
âOh no one cares about that stuff,â Jinki laughs. âItâs not like it was my birthday party, now that wouldâve been frown upon.â
âRight,â Kibum rolls his eyes.
They become a thing, him and Jinki. They havenât really defined it. Jinki likes him and he likes Jinki but they donât say much more than that. Jinki will sometimes sneak up behind him when theyâre together and put his arms around him, he'll rest his head on his shoulder and Kibum will let himself melt into the touch. Or times when Kibum will sit on Jinkiâs lap as they watch T.V. he knows damn well he has more space on the couch but his favorite spot is on top of Jinki and Jinki doesnât mind.
They share kisses. They hold each otherâs hands. They spend day and night texting each other. It feels so nice. It feels like nothing heâs ever felt before and Kibumâs a little overwhelmed but he isnât unwelcoming of the feeling either.
Itâs also soon after that Kibum discovers he doesnât quite fit in with Jinkiâs friends. It makes him feel small sometimes and that's a hard thing to do because Kibum has a big personality. He doesn't like that when they go out to eat it's at the ridiculous expensive restaurants and Jinki ends up paying for him cause really as much as Kibum tries to eat the cheapest thing on the menu he can't afford it. Or how they constantly go on trips. They fly to Barcelona to catch the sun, they go to France to see the Eiffel Tower, they fly to Florida to swim with dolphins. Kibum doesn't go to any of them and he feels bad turning down Jinki's offer but he wouldn't feel right going if it wasn't from his own pocket.
As much as Kibum doesn't try to shrink at the stares he gets from some of Jinki's friends or the people he surrounds himself by he can't help but feel constantly judged. They make sure to look at him as if he's an intruder and as much as he tries to look like he belongs he doesn't and he never will. Itâs hard not to notice the crude comments that are thrown his way. The ones that come from the girls that Jinki seems to be friends with. While they cover their hands over their mouths, they do a bad job at actually speaking quietly Kibum swears itâs so he does hear what theyâre saying about him.
What does Jinki even see in him?
I swear heâs only into Jinki for the money.
He isnât even that handsome, if it wasnât for how he dresses heâd look like a freak.
I bet all those clothes are from Jinki.
It hurts him a little. Especially since everything he wears and own are because of him. He works hard for his clothes, he even designs a lot of them. But they don't need to know that, they shouldn't matter. It gets under his skin even if it shouldnât. He doesnât show it though. He hides behind a smile that heâs perfect all too well since he was little and kids used to poke fun at him. Kibum doesnât let crude words win and heâs not going to let those girls get the best of him.
-
They get into arguments sometimes because they're so different. They're nothing alike. Arguments that can't be fixed with Kibum coming up behind Jinki and press kisses to his neck and they're soon under his covers, naked and calling out each other's name while they're grasping at white sheets and blacking out from the enjoyment caressing through their body. Arguments that can't be fixed by Jinki pouting his cute lips towards Kibum and asking for forgiveness. It's arguments that Jinki tries to fix with gifts, with his money and it makes Kibum feel dirty because he doesn't need his money he needs his words.
The first one they ever got into was the one where Jonghyun finally came back from studying abroad.
The moment Kibum found out that Jonghyun's flight was in, he rushed over at the airport and waited for him outside with his car. He forgot his stupid phone at home so he's hoping he got the right exit. Jonghyun finds him easily and they're both hugging the moment they see each other. Once Jonghyun climbs into the car he complains about the lack of leg room and Kibum only rolls his eyes. They go out to eat, even though Jonghyun feels a little jet-lagged he decides he needs food more than anything.
"It was amazing," Jonghyun practically gushes. "Boston is amazing. The people are kind of straight forward. It's so different."
"I'm glad you had fun," Kibum smiles, shoving a fry into his mouth. It is his cheat day after all, he deserves this.
"We need to go one day, Kibummie."
"We'll save up, deal?"
"Deal."
When Kibum gets home from a fun day with his best friend he isn't expecting 24 missed calls, 20 unread text messages and he feels uneasy. What could have happened? Did someone die?
Jinki. Jinki. Jinki. Jinki. Jinki.
Kibum quickly presses the call button to call Jinki back. Please answer, he desperately thinks.
"Where have you been?"
Kibum feels confused cause wait what? Â "Huh?"
"Where have you been, Kibum? We had plans."
"Oh my god," Kibum gasps, realizing he was supposed to meet Jinki earlier today. "I'm so sorry, I forgot. I totally forgot."
'And you couldn't have had your phone?" Jinki is practically yelling through the phone.
"It was an honest mistake, Jinki." Kibum bites back.
"You stood me up. You made me look ridiculous in front of my friends."
Kibum feels his heart race and anger build slowly. "Who cares about them?"
"I do. What was so important?"
"What the hell, Jinki?"
"So?"
"My friend came back from being abroad for a semester, you asshole. I went to pick him up."
"Ki-"
Kibum doesn't give him a chance to respond, he presses ends and hides himself between his blankets. Who cares about his stupid friends, anyway?Kibum thinks.
He wakes up the next day to a person asking if he's Kim Kibum and handing over ten dozens of roses meant for him. He doesn't even need to ask who they're fun he only knows one person that would pour out so mich money for flowers.
Enjoy them,
Love Jinki xo
-
Kibum knows Jinki doesn't listen to him. He knows he doesn't always pay attention to what he says but he really never imagined Jinki would trespass something he knows is important to him.
He was so nervous about this interview. He nearly put his outfit on backward today because so much of his hard work led to this moment. Twelve year-old Kibum has been dreaming about this for years but it was all shattered too soon and it felt like he was grasping at straws to keep himself together.
âIt was so nice meeting you, Kibum.â
âNo,â Kibum shakes his head. âThank you for meeting me. Itâs such an honor to be considered.â
âOh of course!â The lady who's been interviewing him smiles. âWhen Lee Jinki gave us a call about you, we just knew we had to. You know who his mother is? Sheâs such a genius. If her kid knew anyone remotely like his mother he had to be good and he was right.â
And Kibum does know who she is. Kibum nearly cried when he first meant Jinki's mom at a party. Fashion Editor in Chief of Vogue Korea, the mastermind and fundamentals behind all things Vogue in Korea.
âExcuse me? Lee Jinki?â
âYou know him, right? He was talking about you?â
Kibum shakes his head but then nods. âNo, it is me. Iâm sorry. I just didnât know he called on my behalf.â
âYou should thank him,â she smiles. âA real delight that boy is.â
Kibum can feel his heart racing and his hands sweaty and before he says something stupid that he might regret. He stands up slowly and bows deeply. âThank you so much for your time.â
âOh, weâll be in touch dear.â
Kibum jumps out of his car and when the door is open by one of the Lees' Â nice maids Kibum quickly says heâs here to see Jinki before he climbs up dozens of steps to find him. When he doesnât find him in his room he knows where else he could be and he finds him in the theater room he has in his home watching a movie with Minho.
âHow could you?â
Jinki moves his eyes from the screen to his face before he gets up slowly and turns to Minho, âIâll be right back.â
He grabs Kibum by the arms and pulls him to the hallway.
âDonât manhandle me like that,â Kibum pushes his hand away.
âMy interview, how could you sabotage me like that?â Kibum asks again.
âSabotage?â
âYou called, didnât you?" Kibum points his index finger his way. Â "You talked about me to them?â
âI knew I shouldâve talked to someone else,â Jinki pinches the bridge of his nose.
âYouâre not even going to try to deny it?â
âWhat good would that do?â Jinki asks. âYou already know.â
âWhy?â Kibum nearly screams. âTell me why you had any right to do that!â
âI wanted to help you.â
âI donât need your help, Jinki. Iâve told you time and time again that I donât need it.â
âThatâs stupid." Jinki scoffs. "If you know someone that can help you why donât you get it?â
âYou never listen, do you?â Kibum says, his voice cracking.
âDonât be dramatic.â
âIâm not being dramatic. Iâm tired Jinki. Iâm tired of this. Iâm tired of you doing this. Iâm tired of you throwing your status at me like itâs nothing. I never faulted you for being the way you. I never fault you for your lifestyle. I never once made a big deal of how you handle certain thing or how you use your riches. But this I do fault you in because this is my future this is my career and I asked you not to do anything about but you did.â
âWhy is it a problem that I helped you, they liked your stuff didnât they?â he questions.
âThatâs not the point.â Kibum states.
âThen what is?â
âThat I wonât know if they liked it because of me or because it has the name Lee attached to it. I wonât know now that I get that interview or that shot at being considered because they thought I was remotely good. I wonât know that now because you didnât give me a chance!â
âKibum-â
âThis is mine, Jinki.â He cut him off. âThis is my life and my future. Fashion is all I want to do for the rest of my days and all Iâm passionate about and you didnât have to try to boost my career, okay?â
And itâs true. Fashion is his outlet. Itâs his way to expresses himself. When Kibum was little he had a hard time because people would poke fun at his weight, or would tell him heâs pretty but not manly enough. Kids could be cruel and people didnât know that sometimes word cut deeper than actions do. So Kibum turned to fashion, he hid the part of himself he didnât like and after time he started to own them. He accepted his flaws through fashion because he learned how to style himself, he learned how to enhance himself in ways he didnât know he could. He didnât have to hide behind anything, he could display himself in a different light. Fashion has been everything to him and itâs all he wants to do. This was the biggest chance to know if the last couple years of his life. Everything led to this moment and Jinki doesnât get it.
âI donât get you sometimes.â Jinki sighs.
âThat makes two of us.â
âThen maybe we shouldnât see each other anymore if thatâs how we feel.â
Kibum mouth gapes but he quickly clamps it shut, âThatâs another problem. When you canât fix things without your name or money you give up.â
Kibum can see the hurt in Jinkiâs eyes but he refuses to take the words back. He refuses to let Jinki have the upper hand if this is how theyâre ending.
âYou should go.â
Kibum nods.
-
Jinki hasnât moved in whatâs been two weeks.
He keeps replaying his conversation with Kibum in his head over and over again and for the life of him. He canât see why Kibum is so hurt. Why doesnât he want his help? Jinki is pretty sure he loves Kibum. No, he knows he loves Kibum. He thinks he might be in love with him but he doesnât know if heâs allowed to be. Heâs so different than anyone heâs ever dated. He bites back at his words and he isnât wowed at all his stupid gestures that heâs done to those he dated in the past. Heâs a piece of work but heâs so real. Heâs honest with Jinki. He makes him smile and he makes him laugh. Heâs everything Jinki could want in someone. Heâs hardworking, heâs blunt, he knows how to let loose, and he can stand on his own without having to hide behind anyone. Heâs beautiful with his feline eyes, sharp cheeks, and pretty lips. Heâs perfect but they donât get each other sometimes and thatâs what keeps them from being more than they are.
âWho died in here?â
Jinki turns to see a smiling Minho and a brooding Taemin following him right after. Minho sits at the head of his bed, while Taemin plops himself on the couch on the other end of his room and turn on his T.V.
âWe havenât seen you around, hyung.â Taemin says, his eyes not leaving the T.V. while he flips through the channel.
âIâve been here,â Jinki doesnât move from the end of his bed.
âWe missed you at the country club. Weâve been talking about taking a trip to Swiss. Taemin wants to go skiing. You can invite Kibum.â
âI donât think weâre seeing each other anymore,â Jinki doesnât meet Minhoâs eyes as he announces the news.
âWell I lost that bet,â Taemin says.
âWhat?â
âTaemin, will you shut it.â Minho whispers.
âNo,â Jinki looks at Minho and then at Taemin. âWhat bet?â
âWe all bet how long you guys would be together? I said a week tops. I lost a long time ago.â
âAnd you Minho?â Jinki asks.
âHe didnât bet,â Taemin laughs. âHeâs a bore.â
âThatâs not why,â Minho rolls his eyes. âI donât bet on peopleâs relationships and how long theyâll last. Itâs not my place.â
âNo, Iâm pretty sure youâre just a bore.â
âDonât you have some T.V. to watch?â Minho grabs a pillow from Jinkiâs bed any throws it towards Taemin.
âI miss him.â
âWhat happened?â
âI called in a few favors to get him an interview and he got mad about it. That day we were watching movies and I went to go talk to Key we argued. I know I said nothing happened, it was a misunderstanding and it still feels that way but I said maybe we shouldnât see each other anymore.â
Minho nods his way before opening his mouth. âHyung, can I say something and you wonât get mad?â
âI wonât make any promises but go ahead," Jinki chuckles.
âDo you ever listen to Kibum?â
âYeah.â
âBut do you actually listen to him? Look Jinki-hyung, I know you want to make things better and easier for him but itâs not like that with him." Minho pauses. "Kibumâs different and I donât know if you noticed that yet. He isnât like your past girlfriends or boyfriend. He doesnât expect things from you. He looks uncomfortable when you offer to pay for him or want to take him to expensive places. He just wants to be with you. He doesnât ask you for gifts even though he probably knows youâd get him anything. He doesnât care that youâre Lee Jinki because of name or how rich you are. He cares about you, just Jinki.â
âI don't know how to be just Jinki. I don't know what to do from here, Minho.â
âListen to him,â Minho says, softly. âI come from a different point of view too, hyung. You know my mom doesnât come from riches either. She was just like Kibum, well enough but not like how we are... like my dad is. I saw it first hand growing up how when theyâd argue, heâd just shove gifts her way and never fixed the problems. They nearly divorced because of it. Learn to listen to him but actually listen. I know you to talk, you talk for hours but do you actually hear him?â
âHe really is different isnât he?â Jinki question, a small smile forming on his lips.
âI may not know him well but he cares deeply for you. I could possibly say love.â
âIâll try.â
âGo talk to him... but first shower," Minho wrinkles his nose.
Even Taemin lets out a cackle at that.
-
Kibum is slightly scared when he hears pounding on his door. Itâs two in the morning and he honestly thinks he should call the cops. He drags himself out of bed and opens the door without bothering to check through his peephole, he nearly stumbles over when Jinki rushes into his house.
âIâve been walking around since 1 am trying to come up but I couldnât find the courage until now.â
âJink,â Kibum rubs his eyes. âItâs 2 am.â
âPlease, hear me out. If you donât like what I say, Iâll leave.â
Kibum looks at Jinki. Really looks at him and he can tell how tired and stressed heâs been. He grabs Jinkiâs hand and he leads him to his kitchen. âCome on. Iâll make tea.â
âIâm sorry,â Jinki says when they reach the kitchen. âIâm sorry I donât listen to you. Iâm sorry I donât know how to do what we do. This is all so different to me, Kibum. Itâs scary.â
âI donât mean to scare you.â
âNot you but what I feel for you,â Jinki looks down. âI donât know how to be in a relationship. A real one. All my life Iâve dated people only care about what I am not who I am. Youâre different and itâs scary but a good scary, a welcomed scary. I just.. I-â
Kibum takes the kettle off the stove and places to white tea cups in front of them. âBreathe.â
âIâm not used to not being needed, okay?â Jinki states. âEveryone Iâve ever dated needs something for me and part of me should feel used, but it makes me happy to be able to help people. I would only do it for status. Itâs how the world Iâm part of works. I couldnât do that with you. I couldnât throw my money around to make you happy. I couldnât use my name to get you things. Iâd upset you and I didnât it at first because who wouldnât want it easy? But I realized I had humiliated you and your hard work. Instead of telling you I know youâre going to get it, I made sure that you would without thinking of howâd that make you feel and Iâm sorry.â
âItâs okay. I forgave you already.â
âI still need to say it.â
âI accept it, Jinki.â Kibum brings his hands from his own cup to cover Jinkiâs hands, trying to stop them from shaking.
They sit in silence for a while. Jinki not quite meeting Kibumâs gaze but not avoiding it either.
âSo where do we go from here?â Jinki asks.
âWhat do you want?â
âI want to continue seeing you."
âOkay," Kibum agrees.
âI want something more.â
âJinki-â
âNo,â Jinki shakes his head. âI want you to be my official boyfriend. We act like weâre dating. We act like weâre together but weâve never labeled ourselves.â
âYou really want that?â
Jinki nods, pushing Kibumâs hands aside and letting his own pull Kibum closer. He lets out a soft breath before he rests his forehead onto Kibum and closes his eyes for a moment. Letting himself breathe in how nice Kibum smells. He leans in to capture Kibumâs lips, slowly giving him a small peck.
âI want us."
âI want us too,â Kibum confesses.
âWeâre still going to need some work arenât we?â Jinki laughs.
âLetâs make a promise, yeah?â
âYeah.â
Kibum smiles, âI promise to stop being offended so much when you try to help me,â Kibum boops Jinkiâs nose. âA little help wonât hurt anyone. If you promise to hear me out a little when I express myself over certain things.â
âI promise.â
âMe too.â
âSo is it official?" Jinki grins. "Are you my boyfriend?â
Kibum places a kiss onto Jinkiâs lips once more.
Description: Â Sometimes it's the right time but the wrong person. Other times it's the right person but the wrong time.
âYou leave and weâre over Jonghyun.â
Jonghyun eyes widen and Kibum can feel his heart racing he didn't mean to say that but part of him isn't willing to take it back."We're what?"
âYou walk through that door and weâre through. You know just as much as I do if we donât talk right now we donât ever talk about it. You leave and weâre done.â
Pairing: Jonghyun/Key

Kibum's tired. He really is tired of it but he doesn't do much about it either. Minho says it's because he's used to it, Nicole says it's because he a moron and deserves someone who will give him the time he needs. Kibum thinks it's cause he's in love and maybe blinded by it sometimes.
It's really one thing for Minho to comment on it. It's also another thing for Jinki to mention is. But where he really draws the line is when someone like Taemin who is just as busy as Jonghyun, if not more, throws a question his way on where he is and something stirs in him.
"Haven't been seeing much of Jonghyun at these parties, how is he?" Taemin asks, pulling out a chair next to Kibum.
Kibum slightly moves his body towards Taemin to answer him, "Busy as always."
"He works more than me!" Taemin laughs.
"You know how is he."
"Reason you fell for him, isn't it?" He wiggles his eyebrows at him and Kibum can't help but punch his shoulder lightly.
"Oh stop," he yelps.
When they're both done laughing Taemin's face turns serious and Kibum feels something stir inside. "In all seriousness," Taemin pauses. "Are you two alright?"
Kibum plays with his hands in his lap before he looks Taemin in the eyes, "Why wouldn't we be?"
"It's probably not my right to comment about it. But you two are important to me and maybe it's not the time or place to even ask or bring it up but I worry about you two," Taemin blurts out. "I know how you are and I know how he is and well..."
"I get it," Kibum nods as Taemin's words trail off.
He really does.
All their close friends do. Jonghyun can probably be considered a workaholic with the way he is.
Itâs like an unspoken thing that everyone who knows Jonghyun is aware of. Heâs busy. Heâs constantly busy with his job and the things he has to do for work. He misses social get togethers almost all the time, he arrives hours late to parties, sometimes he barely has time to call his own mom. Something thatâs never been asked is how he finds time to be with Kibum. Despite them moving in together a year ago, itâs like theyâre farther apart than ever it feels like at times. Jonghyunâs usually already gone when he wakes up and getting home when heâs nearly falling asleep. Lately, itâs like he has no time for anyone other than his job.
With Jonghyun itâs always been first work, second work, lastly work, and after that more work. Itâs something Kibum admired, something he loved about Jonghyun because he wouldnât stop at anything to get what he wanted, through hard work and dedication. Jonghyun's passionate about what we does. He loves to be the best at what he puts his efforts into. He's the most hardworking person he knows. It would always make Kibum work just as hard or strive for more because seeing Jonghyun made him feel like he could too. But the difference in the two is that Kibum would always put his heart before his job and Jonghyun always put his job before his heart.
"But we make it work you," Kibum smiles, patting Taemin on the shoulder. "Don't worry about us too much."
"I only worry about those I care about."
Kibum's heart breaks days after the conversation he had with Taemin.
Kibum could deal with the canceled dates at first or the arriving late to parties theyâre supposed to attend together. He didnât let it hurt him that much when Jonghyun was busy overseas on Valentineâs Day or when he arrived late to his Kibumâs own birthday party, kissing his cheek and giving him the new bag heâs been eyeing for a really long time but he was too cheap to get it himself. He didn't care that Jonghyun would fall asleep during their movie nights or that he'd arrive late from work and he'd have to reheat their food for them. Kibum was fine with it all because he still felt important to Jonghyun. Despite being tired he'd try his best to spend the time he could with Kibum. Even though he probably had his mind filled with things, he made Kibum feel special somehow.
What he couldn't deal with is Jonghyun forgetting what is considered in a lot relationships, if not all, an important date. Their anniversary.
Kibum planned out the whole evening, he was even ready to bring up marriage and finally getting tied down to each other for the rest of their lives. Kibum doesnât want to say he slaved over the stove for hours but he did. He also doesnât want to say he fussed around the house decorating it in flowers and candle lights and soft music but he did. And Jonghyun didnât show up that night, he didnât answer any of Kibumâs text messages and when Kibum finally found the courage to call him his heart broke at what he was told.
âKibum,â Jonghyun said before he could even greet his boyfriend. âIâm really busy right now, babe. Whatever it is it can wait until later or tomorrow, please.â
His heart fell out of his chest and his mouth went dry because he didnât even remember. He could put up with so much but not this. Kibum just hung up and curled into himself on their couch.
Now here he is staring at the wall with his cheeks drying from all the tears he's shed. He feels pathetic. Probably more than pathetic and if he ever finds a word to describe how he feels he'd say it over and over to himself. He doesn't want to feel this way is the worst part to him. Kibum doesn't like feeling weak, he hates feeling useless or small. He doesn't want to act like the heart broken boyfriend that seems to wait around for their partner but he somehow is.
But Kibum canât help but cry when he finally forces himself up and puts everything away. When he collects the last of the petals he gathered around their bed he canât do anything other than feel his heart fall out of his chest because he canât compete with Jonghyunâs work and he never will be able to. What he admired so much is what is becoming their down fall. Kibum knows Jonghyun loves him, he knows it in his heart, but he also know thatâs not enough right now. Jonghyun is doing wonder at works, heâs getting all these opportunities, more than they had ever imagined but Kibum is being left behind, he canât keep up and he canât do anything to stop it from continuing. He can't be as strong as he thought he'd be and it kills him.
"He didn't even remember." Kibum mutters as the last one goes out.
Are we even right for one another? Â is his last thought before darkness overcomes him and he falls asleep. Â
Kibum doesn't remember when he got into bed but he wakes up to rustling sounds and a beeping phone coming from the kitchen. He just pushes the covers off him as he goes to meet Jonghyun before he goes to work but he stops in his tracks when he sees a suitcase and bag by the door. He rubs his eyes to make sure that's indeed what he's seeing.
âJonghyun,â Kibum says as he enters their kitchen, watching Jonghyun as moves around getting things out of the fridge. âWhere are you going?â
âIâm going to Japan,â Jonghyun gives him a small smile, pouring hot water from the kettle into a tumbler.
âI didnât think I would have to, I fly out a lot." Jonghyun shrugs. "I think youâd be used to it.â
Kibum feels helpless but he really needs to just talk to him, âWe need to talk.â
âCan it wait until I get back from Japan?â Jonghyun looks down at his watch. âI have my time counted, I canât waste time.â
âI didnât know talking to your boyfriend was timed wasted," Kibum snaps.
âThatâs not how I meant it,â Jonghyun tells him. âWhy are you being this way this morning?â
âDo you remember what yesterday was?â
Jonghyunâs watch beeps and he looks desperately at the time, grabbing his luggage in one hand and carry out in another.
âThursday.â
âThatâs not funny," Kibum's voice becomes irritated. "Do you really not remember?â
âStop playing games Kibum and tell me what day it was,â Jonghyun rolls his eyes.
âI shouldnât have to.â
âThen why are you arguing with me?ââ
âBecause it feels like Iâm the only one in this relationship anymore." He accuses. "It's like Iâm the only one that cares.â
âDonât say that,â Jonghyun says softly. âYou know I love you and care about us.â
âThen why is after five years of being together youâd forget?â
âWhat?â Jonghyun looks up from the paper he was looking at, confusion etched all over his face.
âMay 25, Jonghyun.â
Realization finally dawns on his face and he panics. âOh shit, Kibum Iâm so sorry-â Jonghyunâs phone starts to ring before he can finish his apology and he holds up a finger indicating a second as he answers it. âYes sir, I know sir. Iâll be there. Donât worry. I have everything I need."
When he's done he stares up at him, "Kibum, please can we talk about this when I come back I have to go.â
âYou say that all the time it doesnât happen.â
âI promise Iâll make it up to you,â he starts walking through the door and Kibum jumps towards the handle blocking him from leaving.
âYou donât keep them, please stay for a moment and talk about this.â
âI donât have time.â
âMake some," Kibum practically begs.
âKibum...â
âIf I mean anything to you, youâll stay and talk about this we canât keep running in circles like this.â
âYou mean so much to me, Kibum." Jonghyun pleads. "But I really have to go.â
âJonghyun if you walk out that door without sitting down and talking to me so help me God.â
âStop being difficult.â
âYou leave and weâre over Jonghyun."
Jonghyun eyes widen and Kibum can feel his heart racing he didn't mean to say that but part of him isn't willing to take it back.
"We're what?"
âYou walk through that door and weâre through. You know just as much as I do if we donât talk right now we donât ever talk about it. You leave and weâre done.â
Jonghyunâs phone starts to ring again and Kibum can see the mental battle through his eyes. He can see it in the way he looks between the door handle and him but Kibum heart sinks when he looks into Jonghyun's eyes once more. He knows Jonghyun better than he knows himself sometimes. He's never been one to accept a loss but he realizes what Jonghyun chose the moment he places a kiss on his forehead.
âI love you, you know that. Iâll see you when I come back.â
Kibum can't do anything but move aside.
Kibum doesnât stop him from going, he wants to, but itâd be useless, heâs made up his mind, he made up the choice for both of them and where they stand. He didnât mean for it to go this way but part of him feel like it the end of their story was always going to end in heartbreak anyway.
Kibum doesnât move for what feels like hours but are only mere minutes. He stares at the door with disbelief. His arms falling lifelessly to his sides. He didnât expect it to go this way. He didnât mean to blurt out those words. He wasnât supposed to put his relationship with Jonghyun on the line like that just so the other could see how stale their relationship has gone. Even with the problems starting him in the face Jonghyun couldnât see.
Kibum barely makes it to their room and onto their bed before he lets out a small cry. He covers his eyes with his hands and he just lets them out slowly until they build up to a full out sob. He feels lost and broken and a little desperate. He wishes Jonghyun would come back any moment now but itâs not going to happen. Maybe he didnât do enough for Jonghyun. Maybe if he was a better Kibum, a more understanding one, he wouldnât feel the way he does. He just watched his relationship ends before his eyes. He canât stay here after he told Jonghyun that they were over once he walks out that door. He doesnât want.
Heâs angry suddenly his sobs stop being from sadness but anger because him verbally expressing that their relationship would come to end if Jonghyun walked out the door didnât stop him. Kibum wanted Jonghyun to see it so bad, see that theyâre going nowhere. Heâs angry at himself for becoming this shell of a person. The Kibum heâs always been has broken down and all because of the one he loves the most.
He stares at the ceiling as he thinks about what to do next. Should he keep his word and leave? Should he wait to see if Jonghyun actually changes this time? As much as he wants to listen to his head he canât over the breaking sound of his heart. He feels pathetic and a little bit shattered because all heâs known for years now is Jonghyun. Heâs been with him so long it feels like heâs losing part of himself, but he canât keep doing this. He canât stay in a relationship where he feels like heâs the only one in it. It takes two to form a relationship.
While he wants to blame this all on Jonghyun he blames himself the most. He knew what he was getting into the moment he started to get to know Jonghyun. He let himself get hurt when it was the one thing he always promised himself he wouldnât do for anyone. Kibum hates being vulnerable. He hates letting people have any control over him. He doesnât open up easily. He can count on one hand the people he shares his secrets with, who know what cuts him the most. He doesnât like showing people a different side of him and when he does he knows itâs because theyâre there to stay. Despite building the wall he has for years, Jonghyun was able to break through that and he hates that this happen.
Kibum eventually tires himself out. From all the sadness, the angry, the hurt, the realization that something ended today and itâll be a miracle if itâs ever fixed. He decides to hide himself under his covers but all too soon heâs grabbing a blanket from their closet and wrapping himself up on the couch.
âThe stupid sheets smell like him,â he mutters to his apartment.
Kibum has always prided himself on being a man of his word. Even if this one is the one thatâs breaking him on the inside the most, he keeps it. He comes home with boxes and pulls out his suitcases that night and starts packing everything up one by one. His hands shake as he begins to go through personal things. Things he hasnât seen in years. Pictures he forgot they had taken. Stuff he didnât remember they had bought. Kibum tries to stay strong, he refuses to cry any longer but he cracks when he finds the notebook Jonghyun had given him on their second year anniversary.
âIâm bad with presents,â Jonghyun had told him shyly, playing with the small present in his hand.
âIâll like what you get me,â Kibum smiles.
Jonghyun takes a deep breath, âOkay.â
Kibum extends his arms with a playful smile as Jonghyun softly drops it into his hands. He carefully tears open the wrapping paper and heâs found with a book. No, Kibum corrects himself. Itâs a journal. Itâs a little worn out on the edges and it looks full. Kibumâs eyebrows raise and he looks up at Jonghyun.
âItâs a notebook,â Jonghyun says nervously.  âItâs full of songs. You know I like to write songs, right? Theyâre about you and my time with you⊠Itâs kind of lame. I didnât know what else to give you and I thought maybe if I gave you this youâd see-â
Kibum nods while Jonghyun talks. He looks through it slowly, flipping through the pages. There are lyrics everywhere, his writing messy and cute, doodles filling the pages, scribbles over songs or verses that he probably decided arenât good enough. His heart halts as he flips through the end and he canât help but launch himself onto Jonghyun. He kisses Jonghyun like heâs never kissed him before. Full of meaning, full of love, full of something he knows Jonghyun can feel as their lips touch and their tongue collide. Their arms wrapping around each other as they erase they space that was once between them.
âMe too.â
Jonghyun eyes widen as he stares at him a little breathless, âYou feel the same way?â
âOf course, I do.â
My Kibummie, I dedicate these words to you. Every inch of paper that is covered through here are because of you. Over the past two years, I realized I tried to come up with so many ways to express what I feel about you. I write about your feline eyes, your soft hands, your sharp words. I describe the way the sun rises with you or how even the brightest star in the sky couldnât compare to you. All these words belong to you. But over time, I noticed that I could say all these things over and over again but they are only fives words that can really sum up how I feel about youâŠ.
Iâm in love with you.
Kibum lets out a few tears and he smiles sadly at the book in his hand. He doesnât know if he should keep it. He isnât really thinking when he decides to put in his bag. Itâs painful to think about how things have changed but that doesnât mean they werenât once good. That doesnât mean he canât keep a gift that was made for him.
Kibum stops looking at personal things and leaves them there for Jonghyun. He focuses on only packing all of his clothes. Everything else Jonghyun can keep. Even if he knows some of the things he bought were from his own money, he doesnât really want them.
Kibum pulls out his phone when he lines everything up at the door and calls the one person that knows will understand.
âHello?â
âTaemin,â Kibum breathes. âI need you to come over, please.â
Kibum didnât need to say anything more for Taemin to rush over.
When Kibum opens the door, Taemin brings him into a hug. Taeminâs not one for PDA unless itâs the person heâs screwing at the moment but he knows how to be comforting when he wants to and thatâs something Kibum has always loved about him.
âYou sounded a bit sad over the phone, whatâs going on?â
âI need a place to stay for a while,â Kibum canât meet Taeminâs eyes. âJust until I get my own place.â
There's a silence before Taemin wraps his arms around him once more.
âIâm so sorry, Hyung.â
âIt sucks a lot right now,â Kibum bites his lips. âIt really does but I know that if it didnât happen right now it was going to happen eventually.â
âIs that what all these boxes are lined up right here?â
Kibum nods, âItâs mostly just my clothes.â
âPhew, I knew you had a lot of clothes but damn.â
Kibum laughs.
âCome on,â Taemin goes towards the boxes. âMy carâs downstairs. You can stay with me as long as you need to.â
âThank you.â
Kibum realizes that living with Taemin isnât all that different that living with Jonghyun. Taemin is busy a lot and he travels a lot for his job. The only difference is that while Taemin has big chunks of times when heâs working like crazy he also has long breaks.
âItâs the life of a backup dancer for idols,â is all Taemin told him when he asked about how his job works and Kibum couldnât do anything else than nod. Because really what did he know?
He starts to breathe easier. His heart doesnât feel so heavy anymore and he gains confidence in himself again. He doesnât see Jonghyun nor does he have news of him either on a personal level. Heâd be lying if he says he doesnât look at his social media almost every day to see what heâs been up to. But Jonghyunâs been awful quietly on it lately and while it scares him a little, it isnât rare for Jonghyun to go weeks, nearly months without a single update.
Kibum doesnât feel broken like he used to. His eyes donât tear up or freeze when someone mentions Jonghyun anymore. Heâs not going to act like his heart doesnât sting a little because it does. He starts to smile sincerely again and bite back when Taemin teases him. He visits his mother more often and listen to her stories about her youth and his father. It doesnât make him bitter when he sees couples walking hand in hand anymore like it used.
He feels like himself again.
Kibumâs scrolling through pages and pages of his almost finishes thesis for his grad school when he gets a scare.
âIâm late for that talk arenât I?â he hears a voice behind him.
Kibumâs drink nearly falls into his lap when he sees two wide puppy eyes staring down at him. Itâs a voice he would recognize anywhere and a face he hasnât seen in three months. âJonghyun.â
âCan I sit?â
Kibum canât do much other than nod. Jonghyun pushes out a chair as he places his phone and wallet on the table before them. He looks handsome just like he always does, a little tired if heâs honest.
âHow are you?â Jonghyun asks him.
âIâm okay,â Kibum gives him a small smile. âHow about you?â
âIâve been fine.â
They fall into silence. Neither of them really knowing what to say or what to do. Itâs like there are so many words in each of their mouths ready to spill but neither has the courage to actually say anything.
âListen-â
âJonghyun-â
They say at the same time trying to break the silence.
âYou go first,â Kibum encourages him.
Jonghyun nods before continuing. âIâm sorry. I really am.â
âItâs okay,â Kibum tells him.
âItâs really not,â Jonghyun shakes his head. âWhen I got back from Japan and you were gone⊠That was really hard on me. I wanted to call you and get you back home but I knew I messed up. I didnât realize how much I messed up when I was cleaning to distract myself and I found dried up flower petals and candles thrown in the trash.â
Kibum canât do much else but nods dumbly.
âYou did that for us, didnât you?â
âYeah, it was for our anniversary.â
âAnd I didnât show up.â
âYou were busy.â
âThatâs not an excuse,â Jonghyun says. âI realized I had messed up after everything. I needed to give you space and I need to figure out what I wanted to do. It wasnât fair to have you stringing around.â
âI understand.â
âBut Iâm ready to talk now. I wasnât before,â Jonghyun says honestly. Â âBut Iâm willing to listen.â
âI just,â Kibum pauses. âI didnât feel like I was enough for you.â
âKibum,â Jonghyun whispers brokenly.
âI felt like I was continually competing with your work and I couldnât stack up. I didnât even mean to make you choose between you job or me, it wasnât fair now that I think of it. But I was so hurt and I felt so run down that itâs all I could say.â
âYouâre more than enough, Kibum.â
âI didnât feel that way..â
âI wasnât a good boyfriend was I?â
Kibum shakes his head furiously, âNo! You were amazing, Jonghyun. You made me feel amazingâŠâ
âBut you left.â
âIt wasnât healthy for me anymore. I didnât leave you because I wanted to leave you. I left for myself. I was starting to break down. I was starting to doubt myself as a person and that wasnât fair to me or you. When you walked out that door, I felt broken and unworthy. I felt like the only person that I have loved the way I loved walked out on me.â
âThat wasnât it-â tries to cut him off.
âI know,â Kibum cuts back. âI know that because I stopped feeling that way. I started to victimize myself while we were going through this and once I got out of my head and saw things clearer, I knew that I wasnât doing what I could for you either. I made things harder and when you love someone youâre supposed to make things easier.â
âI wasnât there for you.â
âI wasnât there for you either.â
âDonât blame yourself, please.â Jonghyun, grabs his hands. âI donât have the right to hold your hand anymore but know that this wasnât your fault.â
âIt was neither of ours. I read somewhere that sometimes relationship work in weird ways. Sometimes itâs the right time but not the right person and other times itâs the right person but not the right time.â
âWhich one do you think is ours?â Jonghyun looks into his eyes.
âThe second.â
âI miss you every day,â he confesses to Kibum, his voice shaky.
âI do too.â
The start as friends again. Since the day that Jonghyun bumped into Kibum at the coffee shop they decided that Jonghyun needs to regain Kibumâs trust on things like dates and promises. Kibum decided that he needs to work on understanding Jonghyun more when it comes to his job.
They start slowly with meeting up places with Jinki. All of them going to play pool and laughing at how awful Jonghyun is. They eat dinner with Minho who doesnât shut up about his recent trip to London where he was able to catch a few football matches. Taemin gives them tickets to see an idol group that heâs being a back-up dancer too and they laugh in the stands as they see that theyâre the only guys in their 20s surrounded by teenage girls.
There are a few bumps here and there. Like when Jonghyun is ten minutes late and Kibum is panicking at the place they were supposed to meet up because he feels like he isnât going to show up. But when Jonghyun shows up breathing heavily and going on about forgetting to put gas in his car yesterday and saying sorry over and over again, Kibum canât help but laugh a little and grab him by his arm as they walk in together.
Or the time when Jonghyun is held up at a meeting and he doesnât know how to tell Kibum because heâs afraid heâll get mad at him. But when he finally musters the courage his heart melts at how soft and understanding Kibum sounds.
âItâs okay,â Kibum says. âDo really well. I want to hear about it when you call me tonight, okay?â
Jonghyun nods even though he knows Kibum canât hear it. âI will.ââ
They work on it little by little and before they know theyâre both falling into each other again. Itâs small things like Kibum holding out his ladle and letting Jonghyun taste what heâs cooking for them that night. Or the way that Jonghyun will leave some of his shoes near Kibum and Taeminâs door that sometimes heâll put them on by mistake. Sometimes Kibum leaves his clothes over at Jonghyunâs without noticing. It isnât until he finds himself digging out a drawer full of his stuff does he notice that he has his own drawer at Jonghyunâs place. It all feels oddly domestic but he isnât scared, he feels happy about it. It feels healthy. Like theyâre moving in the path that they should.
âHey Jonghyun,â Kibum calls out towards him as he cooks for them that night.
Jonghyun looks up from his laptop and his papers to respond to him, âYeah?â
âYou make me happy.â
Jonghyun mouth opens in surprise but is quickly replaced with a small smile. âYou make me happy too.â
Without both of them saying it out loud they know what words they really mean. Soon enough theyâll be able to whisper it to each other like they used to whenever they got the chance.

I wrote a short story for @colorful-vvorld fic fest! you can find many stories here and here!
Jinki nearly gets hit with a pillow the moment he walks in through the door. He isnât surprised to see Minho and Jonghyun yelling and laughing on his couch. Itâs more like Minhoâs yelling about some video game he just came second in and Jonghyunâs teasing him about it, so naturally he flings a pillow and instead of it hitting Jonghyun it nearly slams Jinki in the face. It misses him by a few inches, though.
He takes off his shoes and goes near them, âThanks for the welcome to my own home.â
Jonghyun laughs again and Minho looks startled to even see him there.
âIâm sorry,â Minho tells him. âThat was meant for Jonghyun.â
âYou missed,â he makes sure to tell him.
âI wouldnât if he hadnât ducked!â
âYou didnât have to throw a pillow at me! Youâre just mad that I won and you lost-â
âYa!â Kibum walks out from the kitchen. âIâve had enough of the yelling. Iâm trying to teach Taemin how to cook here!â
âSorry,â they all say in unison.
âOne of you help me set the table, please.â
When Kibumâs finally done and the table is set, dishes are being filled and clanks of spoons and forks scrape the plates cleans.
âWhy does Taemin need to learn how to cook anyways?â Jonghyun randomly asks breaking the silence of all of them practically inhaling their food.
âI donât,â Taemin rolls his eyes.
âI got a new job and I needed a student.â
âYou couldâve asked me,â Minho scrunches his face.
âNo chance,â Kibum doesnât even hesitate.
âWhy not?â Minho pouts.
âYou donât like learning. You like being right and I need someone who lets me influence them. Youâd get mad if I tried to correct you.â
Jinki sees Minho think for a second before he just nods. He canât help but snicker cause Kibum didnât lie. Kibum and Minho always bicker with one another, even being as close as they are now there being a point where the two of them hated each other. Now theyâre the best of friends.
âSo we have two birthdays coming up,â Kibum turns to look at him first and then Minho.
âOh god,â Jonghyun breathes.
âYouâre going to throw us a party, arenât you?â Minho asks.
âI have to! Jinki and Jonghyun are almost done with school and itâll be the last time we can all celebrate together university style.â
âIâm okay with it,â he smiles at Kibum.
Minho looks at him for a second before looking back at Kibum, whoâs giving him pleading eyes. As much as they all love teasing him because heâs the easiest to get a rise from they donât have the heart to say no to him. Even more so when he wants to throw them parties.
âFine,â Minho agrees.
Jinki moves to him room to study after theyâre done eating.
âSo what do you want for your birthday?â Jonghyun walks into his room without knocking.
Heâs not surprised by the action. Jonghyun has always had personal space issues even more so with him. After they moved out from their dorm room and now living in separate apartments on the same floor of the same building nonetheless. He still not surprised whenever he just walks in and makes himself at him; to be fair Minho and Taemin do the same but thatâs more for Kibumâs cooking if heâs honest.
âA hug,â Jinki looks up from his book.
Jonghyun jumps on his bed, knocking one of his notebooks of the bed. âIâm being serious.â
âSo am I.â
âOkay but donât come crying to me when you only get a hug and I get Minho a cool present.â
âI wonât,â he smiles at him, going back to reading his book in silence.
Jinki puts his book down and stares down at Jonghyun who decided to place himself at the foot of his bed. âI really donât mind, Jonghyun. Whatever you want to get me is fine. I personally want a hug from you but Iâll take whatever you get me.â
Jonghyun taps his chin and smiles gives him a small smile before speaking, âOkay.â
Jinki doesnât do much the day the party arrives. Kibum decides to throw the party at the other threeâs place since it larger than theirs and he doesnât have a problem with it. Itâs better that way since he knows how Kibum can get when heâs preparing a party. He fusses over a lot of things and if thereâs anything heâs learned about living with him is to get out of the way. Since Kibum didnât request anything from him other than making sure to arrive to the party at the right time he just sleeps most of the day away.
When the clock strikes 8PM he knows he has to start to get ready. He heads to the showers and lets his body soak in the warmth of the water flowing down his back and his sides. He gently massages the shampoo through is hair and washes his body clean. When he gets out of the shower he pulls his out his boxers, a pair of black pants, and a nice white shirt and heâs ready to go. His hair dries fast and he just lets it call down on his face. Heâs never done much to it. He places his shoes on and finally makes his way a few doors open where he can already hear the music coming from the other side of the door.
When Jinki walks through the door he can hear a loud shout say Jinkiâs here and everyone turns towards the door to say happy birthday to him and approach him giving him hugs and slaps on the back.
He works his way through people, smiling and laughing accepting the kind words they have to offer. The party as always looks lively and thereâs food everywhere. He isnât even surprised to see that Kibum somehow managed to get a medium sized chocolate fountain.
Jonghyun finds him once heâs done with people and heâs being pulled into the kitchen where not a lot of people seem to be. He looks up to see Jonghyun with an excited expression and he would be more confused if he didnât find him so endearing.
âWhatâs going on?â
Jonghyun smiles before whispering, âI got you a present.â
âWhy are you whispering?â Jinki whispers back.
âOh,â Jonghyun laughs. âI didnât notice. I think since itâs been a secret. It felt right.â
Jinki canât help but smiles at him. He could never help how adorable he finds whatever Jonghyun does. Heâs always had some kind of pull over him. Itâs a long time ago that Jinki finally let himself explore his feelings for Jonghyun but he never once expressed them. He never acted on them. Jinki always figured being the friend is better than being nothing at all. Even if his breath hitches a bit whenever Jonghyunâs touch meets his.
Jonghyun places a small box in his hands and he smiles widely, âGo on! Open it.â
Jinki tilts his head before he pulls out what the box contains and his heart starts to race because he really canât believe.
âHow?â he says in awe.
âDo you like it?â Jonghyun nearly jumps up and down.
âI- â
Jinkiâs at a loss of words.
In their first year of university Jinki broke something that was really special to him. He was really close to his grandpa, besides his parent he was Jinkiâs favorite person in the world and before he passed on he gave him a watch he had since he was young. It was the only thing he really had left of him and he wore it with a lot of love and care. One night he was stupid enough to forget to take it off while he was playing goal keeper at a friendly soccer game among dorms that when he tried to go for a ball he hit himself against a goal post and his watch cracked in so many ways. He really cried that night especially knowing heâd have no way to pay for how much itâd cost to fix it. He never really told anyone about it so he canât wrap his mind around Jonghyun knowing let alone getting it fix for him.
His mouth isnât working so he just brings Jonghyun into a hug. âThank you.â
âHappy birthday.â
âHowâd you know?â
âI saw how hurt you were over it while I was watching everyone on the sidelines that night. Kibum found it once when he was nagging me about cleaning our dorm,â Jonghyun rolls his eyes. âHe mentioned it when he found it. I remembered about it the other day so I snuck into your room while you were at school and go it. Since I get enough money working at the schoolâs radio show I didnât think much of it.â
âThis must have cost a lot,â Jinki says.
âDonât worry about it.â
Before he can say anything Taemin comes over handing them drinks and telling both of them to start socializing.
Jinki spends most of his night attached to Jonghyun. He dances most of the night away with him. They drink and play beer pong with a few other friends most of the time together. Even when Taemin and Kibum come out with a cake for him and one for Minho, Jonghyun is right next to him telling him to blow out the candles. He feels warm inside. He feels happy.
Jinki feels a little more than intoxicated. He feels light and heavy at the same time, in the sense where he could sway easily but hit the floor hard. It doesnât help that Jonghyun is practically all over him. Jinki has been used to this the past but it doesnât stop his heart from racing and his hands from sweating. He feels like the he did four years ago when Jonghyun walked through their dorm room introducing himself. Jinki couldnât really form a word let alone a sentence and Jonghyun took it as him being shy but really he was mesmerized by his beauty. His big puppy eyes really making him lose himself in them. He feels like that again. He feels infatuated.
âWe should really get you to bed,â Jonghyun grabs him around the waist. âYou can sleep here tonight.â
Jinki canât do anything but just sink himself into Jonghyunâs touch. Letting him guide him to his room, he could get their himself but really why would he want to? Jonghyun smells is the only thing he can really think about.
It isnât long before Jinkiâs back hits a mattress and heâs looking up at the ceiling waiting for sleep to take over. It doesnât come anytime soon and heâs just content with hearing Jonghyun ramble about weird things until a few of his words gets Jinkiâs attention.
âYouâre kind of handsome, did you know that?â
âW-What?â
âYouâre handsome.â
âThank you?â Jinki hesitates.
âYouâre smart too,â Jonghyun smiles, getting up from where heâs lying down and getting closer and closer to Jinki. âAlso youâre funny and sweet and caringâŠâ
Jinki can feel his cheeks heating up and he canât do much as he becomes face to face with Jonghyun Thereâs this bubble thatâs forming around both of them and he canât help but not want it to burst because it feels sort of right.
âWhy are you saying all of this?â Jinki asks.
âI feel like people donât tell you that enough. Youâre special, Jinki.â
He can practically feel Jonghyunâs lips near his.
âI- â
Jonghyun launches onto himself and kiss him before he can finish his sentence and Jinki canât process anything. It takes him three seconds before his hands find Jonghyunâs neck and he brings him close. Heâs dreamed about this before but in all of them he wakes up before he can truly get his chance to touch Jonghyun. Jinki wants to erase every single space between them possible.
Jonghyun practically shoves Jinki onto his back and he climbs onto his lap, deepening the kiss more and more. Their hands start to room and Jonghyun grabs at the end of Jinki shirts, with no words pleading him to get it off. Jinki doesnât even think twice before he starts to unbutton it, heâs never been one for skin exposure but that part of himself flies out the window. Jonghyun moves down to Jinkiâs neck once his top half is exposed and he moans shamelessly. Heâs glad the party is still happening outside and the musicâs still thumping because thereâs no way that if the apartment was silent that wouldâve gone unheard.
Once Jinki gets used to the feeling he goes to take Jonghyunâs shirt off. Heâs a step ahead of Jinki although because he grabs at it and throws it to the floor.
Jinki doesnât realize how fast things start moving because heâs lost in everything. Heâs lost in the kisses, the moans, the touches, heâs lost in Jonghyun. Heâs mesmerized by the sounds Jonghyun makes and the faces he forms whenever he does something that makes him react. He tries to touch Jonghyun likes heâs everything, like heâs the perfect human being Jinki thinks he is. For so long Jinki has wanted something like this, he knows heâs a little more than intoxicated but he knows whatâs doing and he knows what his heart wants. He kisses Jonghyun with his whole being and he explores his body to get to know what makes him feels good. He wants Jonghyun to feel more than good.
âIâm so glad I chose you for this,â Jonghyun says after a small moan.
And Jinki stops.
He freezes.
His heart stutter.
He slowly looks up at Jonghyun and he sees it in his eyes that he canât believe he actually said that out loud. Theyâre both at a standstill, neither of them making the first move knowing really well that the small bubble they dove into is seconds from falling apart. It isnât until Jinki hears something crash outside of Jonghyunâs door does he move. Heâs desperately looking around for his clothes. He can feel the tears welling up in his eyes and he just needs to get out of Jonghyunâs room before he actually does something as stupid as letting them fall. He refuses to let Jonghyun see how he feels. He feels dirty. He feels used. Most of all he feels heart broken.
He can hear the shifting of sheets but he canât even begin to think at looking the way itâs coming from.
âJinki, please look at me.â
âI have to go,â Jinki says, throwing on his last piece of clothing.
âThatâs not what I meant! Jinki!â
He cries the moment he gets to his apartment. It suddenly feels like a blessing that it didnât work out with the five of them living together. Heâs suddenly so grateful that he decided to move in with Kibum. He feels like running to his room but he doesnât even get there, he throws himself on the couch and lets out a loud sob. He feels pathetic. Itâs not like Jonghyun ever expressed that he felt the way Jinki did. Itâs not like Jinki ever expressed to Jonghyun either. But he thought that something had changed. The way he gave him something that was so precious to him tonight or the fact that he was showering Jinki in compliments. He thought that through the actions that built up to what almost happened was an understanding but he was so wrong.
So damn wrong.
He was more than wrong. He was played. Â Jinki was just someone else to sleep with to Jonghyun, while it was going to mean everything to him.
Jinki doesnât have time to worry about anything like that for the rest of the week and for the first time in his life heâs happy that finals are coming up. He dives himself into his studies and he doesnât leave his room for anything other than going to his classes and the library. Kibum sometimes has to force feed him, making sure he gets into the shower to bathe and actually get to sleep at night.
âOkay whatâs going on?â Kibum finally corners him one late afternoon.
âWhat do you mean?â
âYouâve been acting strange since finals. I thought it was because youâre worried about your second to last semester or worried about your grades but...â
âItâs nothing, Kibum.â
âItâs something,â Kibum pauses. âBut I wonât push it either.â
Jinki lets out a shaky breath after Kibum leaves the room. Itâs something heâs always loved about Kibum; he shows concern but he never pushes on it either. It feels nice to know that he has someone to turn to if he really needs it.
Jinki finally starts to go out more. He doesnât spend as much time as he does around the other threes apartment but he finally gains some footing to socialize. He really needed it. As much as he loves to be a home-body and just sleep, he needs fresh air and human contact every once in a while.
He didnât expect to see Jonghyun when he arrives to the location that he agreed to eat dinner with Minho. But he really shouldnât have expected anything different, knowing really well that if heâs invited by Minho, that means Taeminâs tagging along and if Taeminâs tagging along that means Jonghyun isnât too many steps behind.
Itâs awkward, to say the least.
He doesnât purposely ignore Jonghyun, he doesnât want to make anyone else feel uncomfortable but he doesnât go out of his way to actually engage in conversation with Jonghyun either. Heâll reply if heâs talked to but he wonât start to conversation either.
âCan we please talk?â Jonghyun pleads when they all get to their building.
âWhat about?â Jinki lets his voice remain indifferent.
âJinki,â Jonghyun breathes. âPlease.â
Jinki canât be cold. He canât continue to shut Jonghyun out as much as he wants to. He wants Jonghyun to feel the way he felt that night but the way he says his name or he breathes out please is enough for Jinkiâs heart to stammer and he canât hurt him.
Jinkiâs finger anxiously run through his hair and he nods, he doesnât say anything but letâs Jonghyun follow him up the stairs and into his and Kibumâs apartment.
âLetâs move to couch,â Jinki tells him.
They both move to the living room awkwardly.
âI donât know where to start,â Jonghyun says.
Jinki doesnât say anything, just keeps looking at the way Jonghyun is playing with his fingers in his lap.
âIt was stupid. I was stupid.â
âYouâre not stupid.â
âBut I am,â Jonghyun laughs coldly. âTaemin was joking around that Iâm still a virgin and I need to lose it before I graduate. I know part of him was teasing me how he always was but he was kind of right. Iâm in my last year of university and Iâve never been laid. Itâs pathetic.â
âThatâs nothing to be ashamed of- â
âI know.â Jonghyun cuts him off. âI know. But I still felt ashamed. He even joked that Kibum would probably do it with me if I asked or he would himself, anything to help a friend you know how he is.â
Jinki laughs lightly.
âThen I thought if Iâve been waiting so long it has to be special. It made me feel cheesy and weird but I just kept thinking it had to be with someone I care about and someone who cares for me...â
Jinkiâs heart starts to race, âAnd?â
âThatâs you.â
âMe?â
âYes. Itâs always been you and I didnât realize it until I stayed up all night thinking about it. I didnât mean to hurt you. I didnât even mean it in that way. Iâm so sorry I hurt you. I couldnât believe I did that to you and it hurt so much but I deserved it. I hurt you and I just want you to know that I like you⊠Iâve always liked you. Youâre special andâŠâ
Jinkiâs at a loss of words because he never expected this from Jonghyun. Not after he felt that night of his combined birthday party. Not after he built the idea that Jonghyun was just using him for another lay, which canât even be true because Jonghyun still has never even been laid before. His mind and heart are both racing in different directions but ultimately itâs his heart that wins.
Jinki grabs at Jonghyunâs chin and he places a small peck on his lips.
âI thought you were using me.â
Jonghyun eyes open so wide he looks like a cartoon animation. âI would never. Iâm so, so sorry I made you feel that way.â
Jinki feels so relieved about everything. He canât help but breathe easier and smile without a force when he pulls Jonghyun closer once more not for a kiss but to just be near each other. Jonghyun places his head on Jinkiâs chest and they both breathe a sigh of relief.
âWe should do more talking next time shouldnât we?â Jonghyun pokes at Jinkiâs stomach.

Pairing: Minho/Key
High School AU!

Key bites his bottom lip as he feels Minhoâs hot heavy breath trickle down his neck, feeling sloppy open kisses trail down his side. Key tilts his hips up just as Minho hovers over him grinding at the friction thatâs between them, his mind is cloudy with sensation as he feels Minho grab at the bottom of his shirt whispering sit up a bit and Key canât do anything other than do what heâs told. Key lifts his arms and his back shivers to the sudden coldness in the room, his eyes focus on chocolate brown ones and he furrows his eyebrows, yours too he grunts and he goes in to kiss Minho and moves the gray and black varsity jacket he has on and then work at the black tight shirt thatâs underneath. Minhoâs always a step ahead of him though, he pulls at the hem of it and throws it wherever it lands on the floor until his mouth is back on Key lowering them both on the bed once more and Keyâs hands wander aimlessly. His fingers trail over Minhoâs six pack, his tight muscles under the feel of Keyâs touch and God Minhoâs so attractive. Key tries to feel everything he can. He can feel Minhoâs laugh fall onto his lips when Keyâs breath hitches when one of Minhoâs hands curl around one of his thighs and Key grinds up and closer where he can feel Minhoâs cock two can play at that game and he smirks when Minho practically moans into his mouth.
Minhoâs hair is sticking in different directions and Key canât feel his legs when the high is gone and the stars are placed back into the sky. Minho throws a towel at him and Key groans running his hand through his once perfect hair. They dress quickly both bickering about where their things are.
âNext time make sure to remember where you put it,â Minho grumbles. âDonât throw my stuff asshole.â
Key snaps back, âWho says thereâs going to be a next time?â
Minho stops what heâs doing for a second as he looks up with grins, âThereâs always a next time.â
Key rolls his eyes before throwing one of Minhoâs socks towards him and slips out of whatever room they landed in and goes to find some of his friends.
But like always through the night he can feel Minhoâs eyes on him and he does his best not to notice.
Itâs simple.
Key canât stand Minho and Minho canât stand Key.
They clash in so many ways. They get under each otherâs skin more than either one of them could admit and they can be right off nasty to one another but that doesn't stop the rushed blowjobs or heated kisses. It doesn't stop them from cornering each other and sneaking around, finding dark corners or closets to get each other off, or the whispers of dirty words, growling I hate you, youâre an asshole, fuck you, youâre gross, or the most popular just get me off, will you? against each otherâs necks. Always as one of them pins the other to a wall or to the floor or even a bed if theyâre lucky enough, heavy breaths against exposed skin one fisting the otherâs shirt desperately trying to shed clothes off and get as close as humanly possible.
They donât fit together.
They never will.
Minho represents everything Key canât stand. Minhoâs part of the inner crowd at school, the one that wear their jerseys on games days with their last names embroiled on their backs with their numbers stitched as people cheer him on while he kicks a stupid round ball across a pitch. Minho belongs to the crowd that is nothing other than loud and chaotic during lunch, the one that everyone wants to be a part of.
Key spends his time on the other end of the school sat in front of blank canvas with paint brushes and colors ready to make a story come to life. He spends his lunch periods behind a computer screen writing up articles for the schoolâs newspaper. His after school activities include speaking with his fellow classmates on what theyâre going to design next for their annual school fashion show.
They donât make any damn sense. But itâs not like theyâre seeking for some type of love story you read about in novels or some type of high school sweetheart shit where Key and Minho become that couple that stays together forever.
Whatever theyâre doing is messy but itâs real. Itâs them. They donât cuddle one another, they donât send each other cute good morning text messages, and they donât go on any dates.
Itâs dirty sex, the kind that makes your back shiver with anticipation.
Okay after like a long time of thinking about this for no reason I finally decided Iâm going to share the fics Iâve had half written and stored away for so long on my phone and laptop. Iâm not the best at writing but Iâd like to believe Iâm not the worst and Iâm nervous but Iâm also excited to see if I can grow with writing. Iâm not a professional by all means but I enjoy reading and writing and I donât know maybe itâll be a good thing to share my stuff? Iâm rambling at this point, haha. Anyway, I have a few fics lined up I hope I can share them when I get around to completing them. Iâm not sure if I want to do the whole WIP thing and write them/post them as I go or complete what I write and post them in one go. Iâll probably see which one works the best for me.
