organic form - structure
Draft and final insitu render
It’s quite hard to see in this video, but this is our final projection on our 3D sculpture form.
While we were setting up, we were listening to this song by Sevaliza. The music video played onto our sculpture and looked pretty cool!
VIDEO PROJECTION: Multi-dimensional folds and layers come to life through projection-mapped colours and patterns that BLOOM onto an organic wire form. BLOOM aims…
FINAL VIDEO
This is our final video for projecting onto our sculpture. We tested it today and we absolutely loved it. Super excited to see everyone else reactions. Process of narrative
After collecting the images we intended to use for our visuals, we then decided in order to make the narrative build cohesively, we needed to start by designing the sound scape. This way we could determine how long we needed the narrative to be. If we could listen to it without getting bored, then we knew it would have enough impact when combined with visuals.
Sound:
We wanted it to start with an entrancing, almost ambient feel to the music. With A tinkle on the piano and the deep humming of the kokako underpinning the track. Once the track builds to a peak, the glitching intercepts the soothing soundscape and increases in intensity until bringing the track to a halt. Visuals:
Once the soundscape was confirmed, we then started to build the visuals to match it. With a few re-organisations, we were able to reorder the unfolding flower forms to match the track. Then playing with the speed of the blooming, altering placement on the canvas, and reversing the clips so some of them could rewind the process of blooming at the end, we were able to elaborate on the narrative. We then matched the glitches and the speed of each transition to the track so it felt as the the two worked hand in hand. Once projected onto the wire mesh form, the inverted edged visuals give the appearance that they are traveling through each fold in the sculpture. With each glitch, the image quickly expands then withdraws again to its original form.
Last day of prototyping. Just practicing how to set it up for the final presentation. We experimented with the way we intend to set up our installation for the final presentation to the Lux officials and Ant tomorrow. Ollie and Dergie came in to check up on us and got the massive projector down for us to experiment with. We got some really awesome feedback from them too. We decided to face the projector away from the wall and point it up into the installation for the purpose of presentation, so that the projection that caught on the wall wasn’t to distracting. However when we used the larger projector, even though it showed up a lot clearer on both sides of the installation, that also meant it had a crisper image on the wall in the background (which isn’t ideal). So we now just need to play around with the angle of the projection so as not to distract from the overall presentation. We finally got to trial our completed sound and audio composition. And let me tell ya, there was some serious excitement coming from all of us. We are really happy with the turn out of the entire piece. Particularly the way the visuals weave through the material, and the way that the sound and visuals of the glitching effectively interrupts the narrative.

Combination
Once again combining materials. This time creating a floral form with the tighter mesh as a base and the chicken wire as the front part of the form, intercepting the light from the tighter woven mesh. On some angles this was quite successful. However the large mass of the tighter woven mesh still seemed to show too much detail of the projected image
Netting mini prototype
Mini prototype testing the netting. This prototype struggled to show the nicer qualities of the projection. It just looked like colours lighting up a form rather than a narrative unfolding
