Chesapeake Bay
Ship watching, mid-summer.
Temperate Rainforest
Shot in Coos Bay state park on the Oregon Coast. I did my BFA in Portland and have had a soft spot in my heart for the Pacific Northwest ever since. I've been in Philadelphia since 2005 and still miss the Cascades, rainforests, and high desert as if I'd just left. I never really intended on moving back to the east coast. But, these things happen.
Caribbean Nightscape
Shot in Saint Lucia under a windy full moon a few winters back. I don't head down to the Caribbean very often, I've never really been all that fond of the tropics. I prefer the sparsity of arid places, the expansiveness and severity. But I have to admit, it was nice to sit out at night on the sand and not need insulated clothes.
Oregon coast last year. Unfortunately low res shot, I hadn't checked my camera's settings and wound up shooting low quality jpegs instead of full size raw files. Guess I'll just have to go back out there :)
Cumulus Backdrop
Shot outside Sedona, Arizona. I will never be able to hear or say that without the pixies running through my head. I even saw a pack of javelina on that trip. They’re small, but mean as hell.
Radial Abstract
I always mean to figure out exactly what type of plants I’m shooting, but had yet to actually get around to it. For this one, I made a concerted effort, to no avail. If anyone knows the name, I’d very much appreciate it if you’d share.
Cactii
Dark sepia toned cactii. Shot during a backpacking trip to New Mexico a few years ago. There’s something about dangerous plants that really interests me. I think it stems from growing up in the Northeast and being allergic to poison ivy.

Do you have to sneak in there? I love old decaying buildings.
Actually, the entire place has been turned into a sort of historic site/museum. It doesn't make much money so many of the cellblocks and most of the cells are gated off and left in varying states of decay. They open it up to photographers for a few days each year. Admission is around twilight and you get to wander around without a guide and bring in tripods, flash lighting, and even live models.
Entropy
The only problem with shooting at Eastern State Penitentiary, is that the layout and gates lead to a disproportionate number of corridor perspective shots.
Safety Glass
Cracked safety glass and peeling paint on a door in the infirmary. Not sure what the room behind this door was used for, but it was located right beside the operating room.
Cellblock
This was one of the better kept wings of the prison. The plaster on the walls was still crumbling, but the wood and stone work was in great condition.
Hospital Gate
Gate detail shot of the entrance to the infirmary wing of Eastern State Penitentiary.
Cellblock Perspective
Eastern State Penitentiary two story cellblock, not sure which number.
Untitled
Sunset at the island in late spring.
Fingerspan Railing
Fingerspan Bridge, in the Wissahickon section of Fairmount Park, Philadelphia. Jody Pinto designed this as part of the “Form and Function” installation art program. It’s made of weathering steel and is intended to rust.
Lichen Study 01
Macro shot of two different varieties of lichen. If I could just nerd it up for a moment, lichens are actually a “composite organism consisting of a fungus and a photosynthetic partner growing together in a symbiotic relationship”. Plus, apparently you can eat them, although I’m guessing they mean larger varieties than these.
Calm Waters
End of the day. Minimal retouching. It's too bad the water's still so cold right now, because this is one of my favorite times of day to go swimming.
