lux sighed then shook her head. “if that’s you aim then there might be better places than here,” she murmured, already looking for an exit as she tended to do.

she wasn’t used to seeing people sitting in the alleys; not that it wasn’t a good place to sit, sure it was fine. corey preferred higher but she supposed she was still technically in the alley herself, just…up. point was most people stuck to people, corey tended to make ‘people’ days more interesting, or more difficult in their words, not her own. seeing the woman shrug she was dragging her eyes down the alley, maybe expecting someone to join her. no one seemed to and she counted to all of two seconds deciding they’d had their chance. “wanna try up here?”
lux tried to catch her breath and took a second to look up at the other girl. the distance was minimal and it was clear that they could both fit there, but her brain was still working out the fact that someone had given her attention. lux took a step back in order to meet the other girl’s eyes. her brain immediately started to dismiss the invitation, but it wasn’t faster than her mouth. “i can try...,” she offered, still studying what was in front of her. “what do i do?,” she asked, trying to convince herself this was a good idea.

Watching the young woman with a careful gaze, Victoria slowly moved so that she was just in front of her. Kneeling down to join her on the ground, the woman smiled. “That’s good. Do you mind if I sit here with you for a bit?” Looking out at the passing crowd Victoria hummed softly. “So, have you explored much of the festivities yet?”
Lux was still trying to fight the urge to let herself loose and open up to seeing everyone’s essence so there wasn’t anything she could do but nod as an acceptance of letting someone else sit down. As much as she hated it, if she lost her battle and became completely overwhelmed then Lux knew that she’d need someone to at least get her to a safe place. She tried to force those thoughts to the back of her mind so she could focus on the questions being asked. Swallowing, she tried to figure out the easiest way to explain things. “Not really, they’re not... they aren’t my thing. Usually I get dragged out. I was trying to be brave...” Her voice trailed off as she realized that feeling like this was her fault.

lux: if i could just be set up with a bed outside the clocktower to insult people as they passed then life would be grand.
lux: i don't want to talk about it. i'm not worried.
lux: but there's also something about it that hurts my stomach. is that what a feeling feels like?

she turns to look at lux, before she’s moving over to the girl, making sure she wasn’t in her personal space though.”sorry. uh, my sister gave me a great idea with the slime.” she says with a smile.”all i want you to do if you don’t mind of course is filling the syringe with air, mixing in clear liquid soap with the slime mixture, bowl of warm soapy water, scoop out the soap suds and fold into the slime, syringe is to add more air bubbles.” she tells her, hoping she was explaining it well enough, before she heard her next words.”i mean, i prefer not to set things on fire.” she says with a soft chuckle.
as she listened to the instructions, lux’s eyebrows kept climbing as it became more and more clear that they had very different ideas of what was considered an easy task that could be passed on to a clueless person on the sidelines. lux could barely make toast but all of a sudden there were phrases like “fold in” being thrown at her. she did her best to nod her head like she could absolutely not ruin the halloween project but she wasn’t so sure. it was only at the end that the fact that the idea came from the girl’s sister registered in lux’s mind and she did her best not to react at all even though part of her would have welcomed lyric’s interference in her life. forcing a big smile, lux shook her head as she looked at the soap and syringe. “then you’re seriously missing out.”

Victoria wasn’t to bothered by the amount of people that seemed to file in a somewhat orderly fashion around her. She liked this sort of chaos. Granted any chaos to her was good chaos. The state of her room was a sure fire sign of that. So when a figure rushed in front of her to duck into a dark space, her curiosity got the better of her. Following at a decent pace behind them, the woman paused just at the entrance of the alley when she saw the figure on the ground. “Hey, excuse me, are you okay? Well, I mean clearly you aren’t, but I guess I mean to ask, are you hurt?”
Lux had known that coming out to this was a bad idea, but everyone had told her she had to. It was clear that they’d all minimized how the night went. Lux didn’t really have an excuse because she’d been around for a few years now, but she’d never ventured out in any of the days leading up to Halloween. It hadn’t taken her long to become overwhelmed. As she crumbled in the alley, Lux managed to shake her head. She wasn’t hurt. Not physically, at least. She was exhausted by trying to fight off her nature from jumping on any essence willing to present itself. But she wasn’t technically hurt. She was just exhausted by her fear of crowds because of her past meeting her fear of crowds because of what they caused her to see. But someone asking was nice. Usually no one cared.

peyton was just skipping down the crowded street, when she spotted someone ducking into an alleyway. blue hue sharpened then, her stance changing from childlike to head in a matter of seconds before she was following them, ever so quietly, the vampire turned down the alleyway. it was then when she saw lux, and her heart ached already for her. peyton now making a little more noise so she didn’t startle the young woman walked over and knelt down in front of her.”tough crowd?” she tried to joke, a weak smile playing on her lips, before she crosses her legs to sit down in front of her.”i have my ipod if you need to listen to it.”
lux pressed the heels of her palms against her eyes and tried to remind herself to breathe. logically she knew she wasn’t dying but she felt like she was. and the fact that she was beating herself up for being foolish enough to think she could handle people being so close wasn’t helping anything. but for the time being she was content to hide in the alley and push her palms into her eyes until she saw stars. they at least distracted her. it wasn’t until she heard another voice that lux was jerked out of everything and forced to realize that she was hiding on the ground in an alley. slowly processing the other girl’s words, lux tried to hide the shame she felt that someone was trying to be kind to her. instead of accepting any kind of comfort, lux shook her head. “asthma,” she whispered, her voice breaking on the lie.

when streets got crowded, corey sought higher vantage points, taking to rooftops and slipping between them just to keep people out of her way. people always brushed past and it made her skin hurt, made her want to touch back harder, so when that urge sunk in she was moving higher. sittng on the edge of a roof she was only two stories up a fire escape when gold eyes caught sight of a female ducking into the alley below, corey leaning over a little, stomach pressed to her thighs and chin on her knees nearly. “what you down there for?”
the fact that no one was touching her was enough for lux to begin to calm down, but in the back of her mind there was always the fact that at some time she’d need to leave the alley. the thought of what that could happen then started to take her over and lux let out a soft gasp as she was distracted from the spinning she was feeling because all she could imagine was the worst. looking up, she finally figure out who was talking to her and all she could do was shrug. no matter how weird lackluster got, “trying to convince myself i’m not dying,” seemed a little extreme as an opener.

“oh well here” she says, moving from her seat for lux to sit down.”if you like, you can pump air into this jelly stuff, while i take a closer look at bruce over there, and see how i can make that saliva work with his teeth and that weird looking tongue that he has.” she says smiling at lux. she knew the woman was in vulpec, though she didn’t know if she knew what they were doing, but now she did, but she seemed quite content here and bynx wasn’t the type to push someone out. she liked when people wanted to help, and she did seem like she wanted to do something, unless bynx was reading it all wrong.
lux quietly accepted both the seat and the pump though she didn’t really understand why this was such a big deal. she knew the other girl by sight, but even so, it didn’t explain the fuss everyone was putting into this holiday that wasn’t actually a holiday. still, lux wasn’t about to dismiss someone not telling her to go away. especially when they didn’t seem to be trying to reduce her down to the smallest possible option. “i mean... i’m pretty bad at being here so you’re going to have to tell me what you need,” she said, looking at everything in front of them. “i’m pretty sure i’m just here because i’m bad at listening and sometimes i think that lighting things on fire is an appropriate way to be pissed off...”

he did notice the conversation ran a little short, and that was fine with shane, because he wasn’t much of a talker anyway. he was more of the suffer in silence type, and though he was doing his best to try and talk even if some days he didn’t want to. good thing he had shiloh, because she was bringing him out of his shell a lot. the way she said her sister was an artist, had him nodding his head gently, before wiping at his brow.”sorry for your loss.”
lux had always tried to end conversations as soon as possible, but the apology for her loss struck her. it was a loss, but not the way he’d heard it. she’d lost lyric because she couldn’t handle her behaviors triggering her. it was easy enough to just pretend that she was at least out of the scope of lux’s thoughts but somehow someone else trying to show her some sort of sympathy punched through her walls. “it’s...” she managed to gasp out before shaking her head. there wasn’t an explanation. her sister wasn’t dead, she was just pretending she was.
it felt like the people around her had suddenly doubled, going from a slightly busy street to a crowd. then someone’s hand trailed across the small of her back, maybe even by accident, and suddenly it was as if the crowd had doubled in size to something closing in on her on every side. the combination of people and the touch had lux searching for a way to duck out of things before she had a total panic attack. knowing that she needed to get out, lux pushed her way through the crowd to duck into an alley and tried to catch her breath. she was torn between beating herself up for reacting and being proud that she’d managed to get herself safe before the anxiety took hold. whatever she was supposed to be feeling, she sank to the ground as her knees went weak and swiped at her prickling eyes.

bastian tucked the keys away, figuring someone would come back for them; if not he would turn them into phoenix. with them leaving his sight they were leaving his mind too and he was focusing attention back on the female in closer proximity to him than other people were, naturally. “they’re pretty terrible, worse in the dark.” bastian agrees, smiling lightly while he placed another bowling ball back on it’s rack. “if you need anything just let me know.” he offers, glancing up at the people getting their lanes ready for new games, some crowding out the door. “or if you need help getting through that mess and back outside.” he adds after one glance to the crowds.
with his agreement, lux ducked her head to hide the smile that someone agreed that most people looked silly bowling. as far as the idea that she’d need anything, it wasn’t possible as the only reason she was in here was to not be out there. for a second, she considered asking if she could just sit on the counter until the crowd passed, but as lux looked around she realized that it was too busy to take up that kind of space. not quite ready to leave but also not willing to pretend she was here to play, she chewed her lip in thought. “is it okay if i stay here for a bit?” she asked, waiting for the rejection. it was a place of business, after all. “i can try to help, if you want. probably badly. maybe starting a fight...” trailing off, lux offered a helpless shrug as though it wasn’t her fault that she picked fights. “but i can try not to for a little bit, at least.”

lux: i mean, i'd be concerned but like... energy and effort.

he was pulling on a bit of rope to pull a skeleton up to the ceiling when he heard her,blue eyes looking toward her as he continues to pull.”yeah i get you. kind of hard to get into somethin’ you’ve never really done b’fore, eh?” he asks her, before his eyes are looking up to what he was doing. shane never got to experience most holidays. not like his ma ever wanted to be a parent, his pa left. but shane was adaptable, just ask him to do something and he would do it. but for shiloh, he was going to enjoy this halloween, he was going to put himself in it. well not just for shiloh, but for himself too really. he was going to get to take part that he never got to when he was a child. but that was shane, and he knew not everyone would know how to do that. or they just had something going on in their life that shane wouldn’t get. after putting the skeleton down by the tombstone, he looks to her again, and down at the skeleton.”that would be fuckin’ cool.” he says a smile upon his face.’you got a knack for this thin’, eh?” he says, smiling at her as he bends down to remove soil so he could put it underneath.
maybe he would’ve been right if this was ten years ago. maybe even five. not it wasn’t so much not knowing how to get into it but all the reasons not to. everything about it just rubbed her the wrong way. for someone who was willing to do anything for a thrill, lux simply wasn’t able to wrap her head around why the night was such a big deal with people. someone was going to make her come, but all lux saw were crowds pressing in from every angle and the fear that something would jolt her into power mode. then she’d be stuck with the crippling headache all because she knew a zombie’s true essence. no thanks. the thought distracted her for a second and she had to register the question before she shook her head. “no, my sister was an artist,” she explained, referring to lyric in the past-tense out of habit.

bastian wasn’t expecting to see the woman surface back where he was. the groupings of people around the snack bar and collection of arcade games tended to keep the actual bowling lanes pretty empty so he figured she’d found someone she knew to chat with, probably seeing that the keys made it to their owner, but seeing her again and the keys, he took them gently. “thanks for trying. sure someone will come back for them.” he says, placing the keys behind the counter and up on a shelf where he kept his bottle of water and such, as well as a few small lost items he hoped people would come back for. “you here to bowl?” he asks, looking to the empty lanes. “was just about to turn the lights down for the glow-bowling.”
lux shrugged her shoulders at his thanks. she didn’t really care if anyone ever came back for the keys, either. it didn’t really matter to her if some idiot was locked out of their house or anything else they were holding keys for, to be honest. she’d just been looking for a way to kill a few minutes of time without looking like she was just loitering. it took a few seconds for lux to follow the question since she was slightly distracted (and horrified) by the idea of glow bowling. “uh... no. i just pop in now and again to get my fill of people failing at every type of coordination but bad timing i guess,” she answered, glancing at the door. or really, it was the first door lux found after thinking she saw a familiar face in the crowd.
