And being quiet, staying out of sight and thus out of mind, had allowed her to uncover many of these falsehoods. She knew, for instance, that the man who'd saved her had been responsible for the death of another man by the name of Kirk and, based on other discussions she'd heard that was far from the greatest of his sins... in fact if certain sources were to be believed... She shook those thoughts from her mind, deciding quickly that whether those claims were true or not, it hardly changed the degree of darkness that seemed to lurk around the man's heart.
And of course, he was far from the only darkened soul within Lawrence, there were countless others, even including those who would kill their own blood, like Sam and perhaps Adam based on recent threats. The worst kind of sin an individual could commit, to turn on their kin, and both seemed to be willing to do so so very effortlessly. It disgusted her to think she had to co-inhabit a town full of such people, the kind of people that reminded her all too much of her own kin and the way they'd turned on her father all those years ago.
Lawrence was undeniably broken so long as individuals such as 'Nick' and Sam and Adam could inhabit it. And if the world was full of monsters, there were far more inside their borders than out of them these days...
And what was Hannah's duty but to hunt monsters?
She'd held her tongue until this point, knowing she'd need more than her own skill set to take care of these particular individuals, but her silent observations of the town around her had paid off in full when she'd been able to track Meg's path out of Lawrence to visit an old neighbor; Abaddon.
Something about the way people seemed to discuss her in Lawrence, Nick included, told Hannah that if anyone out there would prove a powerful enough ally, it was her. Better yet, she knew the woman would have her own reasons for wanting her targets taken care of because those were the three so largely responsible for her exile. And treachery, especially these days, never did sit too well with its victims.
Mind long since made up, and well aware that the neighbors would likely be too busy nursing hangovers in the aftermath of celebrations to notice her slipping beyond the borders, she slung her pack over her shoulders and slipped her way through the house, moving swiftly through shadows until she reached the edge of their settlement, her eyes quickly skimming her surroundings for onlookers before slipping through the town's gates and into the uncharted territories beyond.
