STOP PUTTING YOUR OC UNDER “X READER”!!!!! I DONT WANT TO READ YOUR STINKY LOVE STORY, *I* WANT TO BE THE LOVE STORY!!!!
I genuinely don't understand why people keep saying that DMC5 "whitewashed" Vergil.
DMC5 didn't suddenly turn him into a good person. It gave context to why he became the person he is.
Understanding a character's motivations is not the same thing as excusing their actions. If we aren't allowed to understand why Vergil did what he did, then he's not really a character anymore—he's just a cool villain with a katana.
People act as if DMC5 rewrote his personality, but how can you "whitewash" characterization that was barely explored in the first place? You're talking as if we had full access to his inner thoughts and motivations before DMC5, when we really didn't.
The way some fans talk about the series, you'd think Vergil had a fully developed character arc before DMC5, but he didn't. Before DMC5, we knew he wanted power, we knew he was Dante's brother, and we knew he had an incredible presence as a character. What we didn't have was much insight into his thoughts, motivations, or emotional state.
And honestly, if we're talking about inconsistent characterization, Dante is a much bigger example. Depending on which game, novel, manga, or supplementary material you're looking at, his personality can feel completely different. Sometimes it feels like Capcom itself wasn't entirely sure what direction to take him.
Meanwhile, Vergil's motivations in DMC5 are still deeply selfish, even by the end of the game. He chooses to take responsibility for the consequences of his actions, but not because he suddenly feels compassion for humanity or remorse for all the lives that were lost.
As Visions of V suggests, V himself realizes that Vergil needs to confront the things he left behind—most importantly, Dante. That's exactly what Vergil ends up doing. He takes responsibility for his own mess instead of forcing Dante to keep carrying the burden for him.
But he isn't doing it for humanity. He's doing it because of Dante, because of their relationship, and because he can no longer keep running from it.
He isn't suddenly altruistic. He isn't suddenly innocent. DMC5 is literally built around the consequences of his actions. The difference is that now we understand the trauma, fear, and obsession that drove him down that path in the first place.
DMC5 also expands on Dante. One of the biggest things it establishes is how much he values family. So much so that, by the end, he chooses to go with Vergil rather than simply abandon him. That doesn't mean Dante approves of everything Vergil has done. It means their relationship is more complicated than a simple hero-versus-villain dynamic.
As for people asking why Capcom seems reluctant to revisit certain storylines or concepts, I think the answer is obvious: making the overall narrative more consistent would require changing, reinterpreting, or expanding on things that some fans have idealized for years. The moment Capcom tries to do that, people accuse them of ruining the characters.

girl get off that c.ai and embrace the 'x reader'
vergil being extremely possessive and clingy is something my brain loves to drown in,,
he would definitely be the type of man to leave his clothes scattered around the place, in hopes of eventually seeing them on you,, the thought of your body, scattered with his hickeys and love bites underneath an item stained with his core essence belonging to him would send his mind into a frenzy,,,
no doubt he’d also try to find a sweet, dainty necklace with a v pendant and gift it to you so innocently, knowing he would like to mark and brand you for eternity only for his own pleasure,,
y'all don't understand how frustrating it is to come here and look up some Dante smut just to see probably the worse characterization ever and ndmc SLOP!!! I'm sick and tired, bring my og writes back.
৻ꪆ working out with Dante

pt.2
𑣲 Dante looks unfairly good while training. Hair messy, sleeves pushed up, sweat running down his neck while he grins like the workout isn’t affecting him at all. Often just gets rid of his shirt for you to see his glistening abs.
𑣲 He’s unbearable about push-ups. Counts yours dramatically. Smirks when you glare at him. Then casually does an absurd amount one-handed just to show off. Does a lot while you sit on his back observing his flexing biceps. When you're doing yours and you're about to collapse on the floor he catches you before it happens lifting you up effortlessly.
𑣲 He absolutely flirts the entire time. Especially when you’re trying to focus. “C’mon, sweetheart, that all you got?” "Do one more rep for me, I wanna see it" "You're doing so well, don't stop now, baby."
𑣲 He stands behind you to “fix your form.” Hands on your waist, shoulders, thighs, whatever he claims needs adjusting. Half actually helpful, half excuse to touch you. And you really had problems fixing anything when his mouth was so close to your ear giving you instructions in low, humming tone. If you get flustered, he notices instantly and becomes ten times worse about it.
𑣲Dante is ridiculously encouraging underneath the teasing. He notices every improvement. Every extra rep. Every time you push yourself harder, every time your muscles become more visible. And he’ll casually praise you in that low voice that makes concentration impossible: “There you go.” “Knew you could do it.” "That's my girl."
𑣲He has his favorites gym outfits you wear. He loved those tight ones that showed off your curves, revealed some skin and made his imagination go wild. he often insisted you worked out just in sport bra.
𑣲During breaks instead of focusing on your own hydration, your eyes often wandered off to his throat bopping while he greedily gulped from the bottle, water spilling down his chin. After having enough he let's a satisfied huff and makes you drink from his bottle as well.
- Stretching together gets intimate fast. Mostly because Dante has no concept of personal space. One second he’s helping you balance, next thing you know he’s smirking down at you while your heart’s trying to escape your chest. He can't get his eyes off you while you bend down or arch, his hands immediately landing on your curves. He can't help himself from giving your ass a firm smack each time. At times when he helps you stretch a bit past your limits and you let out some involuntarily groan, his mind drifts off to very filthy scenarios.
- He loves wiping sweat off you. Gently from your face, around your temples. Kissing it off from your neck. Even tasting it on your abs, sometimes getting way too carried away absentmindedly babbling something about licking you clean.
- And if you two are alone at gym, whenever he sits on some machines taking a break he pulls you into his lap always ready for a quick make out session between reps
"Dante... five minutes passed, go do your rep".
"Nah, screw it. Let's get back home and do some cardio"

temptation looks good on his desk, but not when you are interrupted at the worst possible moment.
NOW LOADING... oral(f recieving), backshots, fingering, interrupted orgasms, soft dom dante on a mission. LIGHTS ON, PANTS OFF, GAME ON.
how would Vergil react if u got a tramp stamp thats dedicated to him? Maybe like a 'V' or smth (tramp stamps are so cute idc)
probably likes it a little too much... (i think they're cute too, no one can tell me otherwise and i'd definitely get one for him)
Goosebumps prickled across your skin as you lifted the back of your shirt to lather ointment on your new insignia; an anniversary gift for Vergil you decided on last minute when you couldn't think of anything else to get him (other than books and chocolate, but he'd had enough of all of that). A very proud and inky black V adorned your lower back, something you'd smirked over when you'd got it done, but at the moment you were having the worst time taking care of it and you weren't about to call Vergil for help when it was supposed to be a surprise. For once you were going to get the drop on him and surprise him with something he wouldn't even think of, blowing him away and getting your turn to rile him up...
Of course, that was the plan... Until you only blinked once and Vergil was standing right behind you in the mirror with his eyes focused completely on the damn V on your lower back. Fuck.
fortunately, he’s insanely attractive to me when he does this insane grin
my soul needs more vergil smut… but i think i’ve read absolutely every single piece of fiction with this man… atp i might just start writing my own fanfiction 😭

Coatless version under the cut >.>:
Netflix DMC is such a stupid show and especially it pathetically tries—and fails—to vilify Sparda. It estbalishes very early on that spontaneous portals exist and allow weaker demons to pass on to human world (something that is true to games) and then shortly after, tries to claim that no such thing existed and demons were soooo stuck on the other side. And that's bullshit even by its own logic.
Demon hunting is a big job in Netflix verse, even bigger than it is in canon. Meaning portals open up often and demons pass. Far more often than in games.
And yet suddenly they don't work when it comes to other weak demons??? Suddenly they are stuck? Suddenly they are used as a distasteful analogy for real-life issues? Suddenly spontaneous portals are no longer a thing? Suddenly these so-called human demons lose cognitive function and need a human child to lead them?
This show is so far up its own pretentious ass that it can't even stay true to its own writing and rules to save its life. All this embarrassment for the worst allegory ever and to bash the most heroic character in Devil May Cry.
