"Hey bun-bun, you guys getting ready for Halloween~?" Felix purred with a cocky smirk. He had been getting lonely and he knew seeing Oswald would lift his spirits.

The rabbit stopped when he heard Felix’s voice. He was a bit busy at the moment, setting up pumpkins on Mean Street. Wasteland can look like an awful mess of a place, but by Disney he will at least try to decorate the place for the holidays. If anything, Halloween was the one holiday that matched Wasteland’s ominous atmosphere. “Heck yeah sweetheart! You plannin’ anythin’ special?” Oswald asked, putting the pumpkin down and turning to the feline.@that-wonderful-cat

Felix’s ears folded back, but he tried not to look too sad. “Nah, no plans really. Probably just gunna get hammered, but that’s it.” He shrugged and rubbed the back of his neck. “Sounds like you’re gunna have fun though!”

Hammered? Oswald scratched his head for a moment. That was another word for drunk, if he remembered correctly. “Well I have over four-hundred kids to keep an eye on an’ stop from gettin’ too sugar high Kitten. It ain’t all fun an’ games fer me.” Truth be told, Oswald hadn’t been drunk in a long time. Cigarettes were easier to get ahold of. And didn’t leave him ossified to the point of being useless if anyone needed him. But…things have been stressing him out lately. Maybe a few drinks with Felix wouldn’t hurt. “Mayhaps I’ll join you darlin’. Doesn’t sound fun gettin’ zozzled up all alone.”

“Wh--” Oswald was bit surprised, but accepted the hug anyway. “Th-thank you sweetheart.”

Why do you guys stay there, Oswald? It sounds like kind of a miserable place these days. Are you just that loyal to your home, or is Toontown just too bright a place for a guy who's been pushed out of the spotlight for too many years?

“I dunno. ToonTown is a great place. I’d love to live there an’ be around Felix and the others more. ToonTown would probably make Ortensia an’ the bunnies happier too. Way more than livin’ in this…Well, Wasteland.”

“But without a proper heart, everybody without one is stuck here. And…uhm…“ Oswald hesitated for a moment, brushing his hand over his chest. “The ways I’ve found t'get around that ain’t a painless process. I can’t leave Wasteland fer too long, otherwise things start to get–unstable. An’ even if I could leave forever, I can’t just abandon these toons. They don’t deserve that.”

The very reminder saddened him to his core. No matter what he did, he would be stuck like this. His gaze then dropped to the ground, his words sounding as if all his hope had been taken away for the nth time. “I can get a glimpse of where I could’ve been, at the very least. If I weren’t washed up. But…my time in the spotlight is over. It has been fer decades.”

“I’ll never really belong out there.”
