I’ve watched as a lot of Percy Jackson fan accounts have gone inactive over the last few weeks and months, and it breaks my heart. I wasn’t personally friends with any of them, but seeing this fandom become toxic has been so upsetting. People are being attacked for having their own opinion. I think a lot of us can get so caught up in how much we love these characters, that we forget that it’s fiction. People are allowed to have their own opinions and ideas. Just because you don’t agree gives you no right to hate on them. So many people have had their mental health damaged to the point where they needed to leave the fandom. A fandom, that to many, was a safe space. I remember when I read PJO for the first time and how I felt so welcomed when I first made my account. Now people are deleting accounts because they don’t enjoy it anymore. However, I do think we can change this. We need to stop giving unnecassary hate to people. Posting on these accounts is supposed to be fun, but for a lot of people, it’s not anymore. Please be kind to others. This fandom means so much to me. It’s become a safe space, a second home, and an escape from reality. I’d hate to see this fandom be torn apart.

If you’re reading this and you’ve deleted your account or you’re thinking about it, I just want to say I’m sorry. It’s so heartbreaking that you don’t feel safe posting- or it’s just not fun anymore. I hope that one day you’ll be able to post again without any hate. If you left because of mental health issues, I just want to say I love you and I’ll miss you. Hopefully we’ll all be able to show each other kindness and overcome these issues. I love you all so much :))
