senkanekor:
“I know.” It was not said with an inkling of pride. Just stated as a fact. To Senka, that was their life, and always would be, no matter what else happened within it. “It is sometimes harder to be seen. Some might even say the hardest thing of all.”
Her words sounded young. They barely remembered what it was like to be younger, although an outer appearance could be deceiving. Perhaps she was older and wiser than she looked, which would not surprise them. She said she was no one, and that was another shadow to hide in. It meant, more than likely, that she was someone who meant something to others.
“A good point,” they said simply. “My counter to it is that the danger just might seek you out all over again, if it is not taken care of.” Their Basic fell like hard stones to the ground, and they grimaced beneath their mask, trying to sound — well. Un-threatening. “Such hunts are what I have done, and do, for a living. Are you sure it isn’t necessary?”
The reality in the logic of the other’s words hit her hard, and she had to suppress a sigh even as her shoulders slumped slightly. It was more than likely that whoever was out there would find her again. No doubt her presence had been felt, and if someone had thought her to be worth killing, she couldn’t exclude the possibility of being sought out again.
“No, I’m not sure,” she finally replied, letting out a sigh. She was torn between wanting to feel safe ( at least for a time ) and not wanting to condone killing that might be needless. Silently weighing the pros and cons of each, still she would come to the same indecisive conclusion.
“I will leave it up to you,” she finally decides. “I can’t in good conscience ask you to kill someone for me --- but I can’t tell you not to either.”
ydaaracarth:
The slender figure ahead nearly pressed into Ydaara, had she not taken a step back with it. A firm line drew itself along the width of her face, as she eyed her offender. Though faintly piqued about the near run-in, she sensed that, the one who stood before her was not the enemy of her seeking. Before another step closed the gap between them, Ydaara extended her arm and placed her palm gently on the shoulder more than a head below her in height. As Ydaara’s hand met cloth, her eyes shut and she entered into the void of her own mind. The only thing keeping her awareness was her slowed breath, deep and steady. A truly subtle mind trick. She wasn’t particularly skilled in using the Force for persuasion and if willed strongly enough against, her abilities sometimes harbored no effect whatsoever.
“Trust the Force,” she recalled her father’s counseling, “Surrender to it and promise to do good, and the rest will fall together.”
“Relax,” she cooed to her counterpart, hoping the persuasion would take. “You’ve seen it, haven’t you?” she asked calmly, “I can feel it close.” Her eyes scanned the dimmed background, as if an obvious trail of dark energy would be lingering about in shades of bleeding neon.
Though the idea of relaxing was tempting ( after all, it felt like ages since she was able to relax ), she fought against it, refusing to let her guard down, but allowing some of her panic to subside. The change in her was subtle, but still there. Though unaccustomed to physical contact, the hand on her shoulder provided a sense of comfort and reassurance.
“I wouldn’t be hiding from it if I hadn’t seen it,” Lyra reasoned, her voice quiet and soft. She nodded slowly, while the strength of the dark presence had faded some, it hadn’t disappeared completely, leading her to the conclusion that whoever it wasn’t hadn’t moved far from their current location. “We shouldn’t stay here --- it won’t be long before it returns.”
senkanekor:
They, too, remained. They would not brush past her, nor would they turn around and walk in the other direction. Even those with the weakest sense could track someone down, using the Force, if they truly wanted, and that was not a chance Senka would take.
“How ironic,” they said dryly. “You hide in the darkest place and that seems to be where trouble springs up like a disease.”
They slowly removed their hand from their knife, resting it flat against their hip instead. “Since you don’t seem to keen on murdering me, I could return the favour and get rid of whatever you’re hiding from. No one will get within thirty feet of you, and we’ll both be rid of a nuisance.”
Somewhat more at ease now, Lyra kept her guard up but not so much as to remain defensive. “Ironic, yes, but also helpful,” she replied, resisting the urge to shrug as she spoke. “It’s easier to hide where you can’t be easily seen.” While disappearing into a crowd was her preferred method of hiding, the shadows provided some cover as well when a crowd was absent.
The offer caught her by surprise, though she couldn’t help but feel a little uncertain of the idea. “I’m not sure that’s necessary...” she replied slowly after a moment of thought, not sure she could condone killing when it wasn’t absolutely necessary. “Not that I don’t appreciate the offer --- But the danger seems to have passed for now, I see no need to seek it out again.”

Confrontation was the last thing she wanted, but finding herself cornered, Lyra saw little choice. With her back to the wall, her gaze fixed upon the two bounty hunters as they closed in, moving almost too slowly toward her down the narrow ally --- taunting her, she realized, letting her know there was no way out. Despite having paid off what she owed ( and then some ), clearly she still had a price on her head. She made a mental note to set that straight as soon as possible if she got out of this alive.
Instinctively her hand moved to the lightsaber concealed beneath her jacket. Though Lyra kept the weapon with her at all times, she kept it out of sight, only using it when absolutely necessary. Her situation seemed grave, but still she hadn’t determined whether or not this was a time it would be necessary. Her uncertainty was cleared in the next moment as one of the bounty hunters fired a shot, the red bolt only narrowly missing her cheek as she ducked to the side. The green blade flashed to life just in time to deflect another, though a third grazed her arm just below her shoulder, causing her to wince at the sharp pain it left behind.
She wasn’t sure how long she could hold them off, but she wasn’t about to give up any time soon. However, in the next moment as another figure appeared in the ally’s entrance, Lyra felt her heart sink. Two she could handle ( at least for a time ), but three? With her training left unfinished, she knew her abilities weren’t what they could be, and was all too aware of her own limitations. Still, she held loosely onto a small spark of hope that perhaps this person was here to help her rather than siding with her attackers.

senkanekor:
Their presence in the Force was like a ripple in the water. Potential for calm, or for chaos. Their outward appearance was rather unobtrusive, and on purpose. The same shrouded robes of four weeks ago, four months, four years at this rate, the same mask, the same set in their shoulders. All of it the same, providing nothing new to look at, unless someone was really looking. She, on the other hand, was rippling, but like light, and different shades of light. They felt it pressing just a little against their own grey ripples, asking soft and nervous questions.
Senka slammed a metal door closed on the probing. That was an answer, in and of itself. The tension in their air grew palpable, hair-raising, but not yet a threat.
“No.” The single word answered a lot of things at once. “I am whoever you need me to be. Brute force, cunning brain, quick reflexes. They call me ‘Hurae’ these days.”
The quirk of their brow was not seen, but it was heard. “And you are? Wanting to find trouble, from the looks of it.”
Lyra resisted the urge to take another step back, standing her ground. Though at the moment it seemed she wasn’t in any immediate danger, still she couldn’t let down her guard. By now she often wondered if it was something she was even capable of anymore.
“I’m no one. No one of importance, anyway,” she replied with a shrug, a slight frown settling on her lips. “And my intent was to avoid trouble, actually,” she added in the next moment. Avoiding trouble always seemed to be near the top of her list of priorities these days.

senkanekor:
Senka scaled along the roof and dropped down the wall, their fingertips brushing the Force, the air cushioning their steps. There was a soft sound of the breeze created from them, and nothing more. Navigating the planets like this had long since become a habit, a lifestyle. It was not even out of survival at some points, but out of forgetting that there were other options. They released the Force once they reached the street and sprinted into the darkness.
( who are you? / i am what iridonia made me. / what are you? / not here, not there. ) The ancient, so it seemed, mantras taught to them by their Master in an age long since passed echoed. They still clung to them sometimes, as something real, as something to ground them. They were not the words that most Jedi repeated, but there had been an exception made, because of what’d shaped them, because of what had made them different. There are always exceptions, was how their Master assuaged their prickled pride. These will be yours.
Then the strand of memory ended, severing itself. They blinked back into the present. A figure of a girl was before them. She was revealed, and they were cloaked. Neither here nor there. Of course I am a shadow. What else could I have become?
She took a step back. Senka remained where they had stopped, and did not reach for any weapons. She didn’t seem to be a threat, not openly. They scanned her, and she seemed afraid. Of something. Of someone. Senka could be wrong. Sometimes, they were. And they might no longer be anything now, but they once were a part of the Jedi Order. They wrangled with the very sudden surge of paranoia at being faced with the need to help. The two emotions yanked at each other, grappling for dominance. Their chest ached with it.
Senka settled somewhere in the middle. “I’m not going to bite you.”
Still wary, Lyra kept her distance, pushing back the fear that still lingered at the back of her mind. It seemed she was wary of everyone these days, but in the end she couldn’t help but wonder if maybe that was the reason she was still alive. A trusting child had grown into an adult who was never sure who to trust --- she was fairly certain the time she spent smuggling played a large role in that, but she was grateful for it now. She had learned to never underestimate people, learned that even those who appeared the most harmless could be quite the opposite.
“It’s not biting I’m worried about.” Somehow she managed to keep her voice from shaking as she spoke, managed to at least give the outward appearance of calm. Reaching out through the Force, she tried to gather any information she could based solely on the presence of the figure before her.
“You’re not one of them --- the Sith,” she observed, hoping her assessment was correct and refusing to allow herself to let her guard down until it was confirmed. “Who are you?”

She could feel the darkness in the nearby presence, only growing closer by the minute. It caused Lyra’s pulse to quicken, and she fought to steady her breathing, to stay calm and in control as fear threatened to overtake her. While her initial instinct was confrontation, to stand and fight, logical thought told her that wasn’t the wisest idea --- it would be best to avoid confrontation, not run headfirst into it.
Making herself as small as possible, she shrank back into the shadows, tucking herself away out of sight. Eyes closed, she focused on staying calm, pushing away the fear that no doubt would give her away. The minutes seemed to pass by more slowly than she imagined possible, then slowly, quiet footsteps began to retreat, the darkness she felt beginning to fade away. Even after she could no longer feel that presence, she remained where she was, cautious, wanting to take no chances. Then as she finally slipped out of her hiding place, her heart began to pound all over at the realisation that she wasn’t alone --- as focused as she had been on that one presence, she hadn’t noticed another approaching. It lacked the coldness, the darkness she had felt in the other, but even so she couldn’t help but be wary of the figure standing before her, instinctively taking a step back, preparing to run.
