Hello! I was just wondering a few things about gen 4

- Would it be allowed to have gen 4 do both a day job and freelancing?

- Is it allowed to change the partner's career later or should they stay a manual laborer for the entire gen?

Hiya!

I think both depend on your storytelling style. Do you want to play sims who are more all-in on their specific profession paths, even if they don't make as many simoleans? Or would you rather that they change over time or work multiple jobs to make their dreams happen?

Either way will work! As long as you're meeting the base criteria of the goal, then you're good to go.

heya! your legacy challenge is my favourite ever (please no stress on updating for the new pack etc) but do you have any ideas for future generations that i can add to just stretch time until you have?

Even more beyond 30!? wowza!

Some ideas I'd like to add (but haven't yet) include...

fairies / mermaids / more occults in general

a gen focused on teen life

a gen where you have two siblings competing for heir

gens based on book genres (???)

I also eventually want to move away from a google doc template and instead do a notion or something, so it's easier to track goals and gens and whatnot... hm.

I would love to update it, but just haven't had the time! There's a lot on my summer to-do list for work in between the school year, but I'll try to fit in an update in between as well.

If anyone has additional gen / goal ideas, feel free to send them my way! I have my (bare bones) to-do list pinned for reference.

Just several friendly reminders to my fellow simmers and any other Tumblr content creator:

The fact that you might not have your queue filled does not make you any less of a creator, not to mention a person.

The fact that you only have one/two/several/not as many as you'd like posts planned/queued does not make you and your content less fun and nice to share the platform with.

If you have time, ideas, and willingness to plan posts with content in advance - that's awesome, and it will certainly make you and your followers beam with joy, but everyone is just a human, and it is more than okay if you don't have time/ideas/possibility/desire to queue, or even simply post, no matter how long it takes.

You (and certainly your life, but still it’s yours!) decide on your posting frequency/basis.

Even if you are "inconsistent", or absent for any reason, there are always people who will stay and wait for you and your awesome content.

Even if someone departs for whatever reason, there will be new people around for you to create for and share all the joy and satisfaction with.

But most importantly, when you're back, be the person who you want to create for and share that joy and satisfaction with the most.

I love you guys. You are doing great, even if you're actually…not doing anything here, like, literally. You belong here, your presence matters, and your absence, no matter the reason and length, does not contradict it, even if it may sound like a paradox. It is not one, trust me.

I have a quick question, my gen 1 heir died from being hysterical, but the gen 2 heir just barely aged up into an infant. How does the succession work in that case? would i be able to play my gen 1 heir as a ghost in household until the gen 2 heir is a bit older?

Hiya, anon!

In this kind of case, I'd say it's more true to the spirit of the challenge to have the first generation end now. The way the challenge was originally written, the generation only runs as long as the heir is alive - ghost / afterlife / rebirth gameplay came afterward, and I haven't yet incorporated it into the overall challenge.

I think I would probably follow this logic:

The title of heir passes to the next-living Sim eligible to be an heir, regardless of age. (Typically a child, sibling, or potentially a cousin if you have to go back a generation and down another line.)

Go through the end results of the deceased generation as if it were time for succession, and grant the new heir whatever bonuses are earned for the end conditions.

You may then continue to raise the new heir through childhood, etc. and will begin the next set of goals / storyline for the new heir at the time of succession indicated in the generation.

If there is no living Sim in the family tree who is eligible, then you can go through the afterlife gameplay to achieve rebirth with the current heir, then continue where you left off.

It doesn't matter if you keep the ghost-sim around and play with them; they just aren't considered heir anymore, and progress toward their goals now ends for the sake of bonuses, etc.

So in your case, check for your "end" conditions with your current heir now, play with & raise the new heir normally (even if you make an adoptive family for them to be taken into), and begin the second generation's goals at the specified time for succession.

tl;dr - even though I am finished with grad school, life has found other ways to continue making me Very Incredibly Busy, so I haven't had the bandwidth to update the challenge in ages (let alone even play the game)

the good news is that I'm planning on doing a big fresh start kind of update to my game, so that should (hopefully) pare down the number of mods I have to update every time the game so much as opens. the bad news is that it doesn't really help me confirm any kind of timeline for when I will have changes made to the challenge.

Quick question! Are the sims allowed to move during their lives unless prompted or stated otherwise? Like if there's a given world you have to stay in it, but mainly wondering about gen 3? Do they have to live in an apartment the full gen?

Good question, anon! I'd say they don't have to stay put. If a generation specifies a world, stay in that world. However, if it specifies a living situation, you may move them out / around the neighborhood as it feels appropriate for your particular story.

For instance, you may feel it's good for the story to have a single gen 3 heir stay in the apartment if they don't reconciliate with their partner(s), or you may feel like they would move to a new apartment or home once the baby is born. Totally up to you! In a similar vein, the gen 1 heir would probably stay in the same tiny home that they "built" for their entire generation, since they put the effort into building that home for themselves.

Hello! I'm about to restart the Whimsy Legacy (I got to Gen 7 last year but then hit a slump and I'm super bad at getting back to saves lol) and I was wondering if you have any idea how early the generations will be in the challenge? I don't mind missing small changes to current ones but I wouldn't want to run over full generations yet! It's okay if not, I love the challenge! 😌

Thank you so much for playing and enjoying the legacy so much, that makes me so happy! (Probably better for a new save anyhow, with TS4's track record of corrupting saves 😂)

My guess is that most of the new generations will appear toward the latter end of the legacy, with more minor updates earlier - such as goals, but not ones that would change the generation in any significant way. You could probably even pick back up at Gen 8 and still be fine by the time I get around to updating! Ideally, it'll be this summer, now that school is nearly over.

Let me know if you have any ideas or things you'd like to see, and I'll try to find a way to work them in!

Hi anon! I'm so sorry for this answer, but likely not. I just don't have time for making a new template, not for several months. I might have time in July or early August, but I just haven't been playing the Sims enough lately to really sink my time back into it enough to make updates to the UI template for new platforms. I'm so sorry!

Hi!! I just read through your entire extended whimsy legacy (even thought I should have been studying for finals-) and I LOVE it!! You are /such/ a good storyteller!! As someone who really enjoys telling stories myself it had my wheels turning through every single generation. Do you know when you'll update it to include the newest packs? Only asking out of curiosity haha :)))

Hiya!! I'm currently on gen 8 of the whimsy expanded challenge, almost moving on to gen 9 and I was wondering when/if you are going to update it for the new expansions and stuff? I'm worried I'm gonna get ahead and then there'll be new generations that are before where I am 😯😯😯 I'm really enjoying it so far though ❤️❤️❤️

Hello! I am SO sorry it took so long to reply - I've been so busy with school lately.

I am hoping to do some big updates this summer! I got to play through some of the Life & Death expansion, and once I get the others, I'll add those to the list of updates. But it may still be a while... I am so swamped with schoolwork, I barely have time to breathe lately.

Those are just abbreviations of the titles for each generation! I abbreviate them to make it easier for me to Ctrl-F and find them later. 😂

Hi there! I am trying to download your TS4 UI Mockups, but it just shows me a single page that is the introductions

Are you opening the file with Photoshop? If you use a different software, you may only see a flattened image and not the layers. Right now, I only have a version of the mockups for Photoshop. I'm sorry!

ICE MUST have a warrant to search/enter any property. they will lie and manipulate you to allow them on the premises but if they arent holding a valid document in their hands they cannot legally do anything

They may say something like "our warrant is in the truck," tough shit, have them bring it to you, DO NOT FOLLOW THEM ANYWHERE. Do not leave your property if confronted.

If you are taken, say nothing until a lawyer is present. The exception is if there are bystanders present/filming, then you should shout your name and whats happening

If you are witnessing a raid in your community, wait to warn others via phone as the cops may be monitoring nearby communications and may use that to select their next targets. Warn by code or word of mouth

escape if the opportunity presents itself, but dont be stupid.

im sorry if this is dumb but i cannot find anything about it on the internet: how do you replace an image in photoshop? thanks in advance!!

Hi anon! It's not dumb, but I think I need a little more clarity on what you mean by 'replace an image!'

If you are trying to change out the photo of a sim, you can just add the new image into the file on a new layer. You can also right-click an existing smart image layer and choose to 'Replace Contents.'

I typically use clipping layers to shape an image, which attaches the selected layer onto the layer underneath it. Right-click the layer, then choose 'Create Clipping Mask.'

It should make your layer look like this.

This will make your image clip into the shape of the circle, like so.

If you are asking about how to replace the various icons - likes & dislikes, aspirations, traits, moodlets, etc. - you can find those on L'Universims. (Note: Site is in French.)

try to play chess in the park, sim got abducted by aliens

came back feeling woozy

cat ran away

turns out the sim is pregnant via aliens

she called her boyfriend over to tell him the news

she doesn't realize she's pregnant (bc aliens ofc)

walks across the street to play chess again

BOYFRIEND GETS ELECTROCUTED AND DIES

cat comes back

never a dull moment i guess
