I’m just writing a post about this, because I don’t want to spend all my time here dealing with drama instead of having fun, since I already have little free time.
Recently people accused me of posting AI-generated art and then decided my art is AI generated even after I told them it’s not.
I don’t use AI for art, writing, or anything creative, because it doesn’t make sense. I don’t understand the point of it, since drawing and writing are hobbies. I do not sell my art, I do not take commissions (because that would turn something fun into something stressful), I do not gain anything from it if not the fun of making my own food.
I will not engage with such accusations any longer, because I have better things to do with my time. I will keep posting my art on my blog whenever I feel like. If you choose to believe me, thank you. If you choose to believe those who say it’s AI, you’re free to not engage with it and to decide whether or not you want to engage with the rest of my posts. If you cause trouble on my blog I will simply block you. If you are looking for someone to argue with about this, here is my wife’s blog: @patricia-von-arundel. She enjoys fighting and hates AI, so have fun. I get bored.
Yes, I know I could post videos and such (spoiler alert, those can be manufactured too), but that would take more of my time and effort. In addition, like singing in public, letting people watch me draw tends to give me anxiety. I let my wife and a friend see a few times, people I knew for years and had a strong relationship with, and it was still a nightmare. Maybe in the future I’ll feel better about it or there will be phases of the process I will find out I’m more comfortable recording. As things are now, I don’t see a reason to put myself through the extra stress for something that should be fun. This is not my job, not something I get paid to do, and therefore I don’t need anyone’s approval or interest. If my art gets 3 notes I’ll still have had fun doing it. So I don’t have to do anything for anyone else’s comfort.
The big issue with AI in creative environments is that you cannot really tell. Were there times I suspected? Sure. The reason I never accused anyone is that there is no real way to tell. The tools that claim to be able to identify AI labeled art from the early 2000s as AI. The fact that many labeled Frankenstein’s opening paragraphs as AI is pretty well known as a joke. In addition to that, AI trained on real art. How likely would it be for that art to be flagged as AI? Some styles are more susceptible than others, anime styles in particular, but reliability is generally low because you know what all those AI-identifying softwares are? They’re AI. Oh, and one more thing. A lot of artists who learned to do art from other art (isn’t that everyone?) learned from what they found online. In the last few years, they might have unknowingly learned from AI.
All that said, let’s all have fun, enjoy our fandoms, chats, indulgent tropes, et al. I’m always happy to enjoy, support, and share everyone’s work.
