hi i'm allister / rhubarb [either name is fine]. this is a blog for me to reblog and post my own liom related terms ^_^
i'm 22 and my pronouns are he/it/yip. i'm a trans man with some other shit going on. host of a system, some of them will have terms in their own collection tags.
i do not have a DNI and will not directly put discourse on this blog for my own sanity. i'm anti-radqueer, pro-harmless transIDs and alternatives, and do not care about shipping discourse [read: i'm proship] or system discourse [read: i'm pro-endo.] my terms will be free for anyone to use regardless of stances
if you notice you are blocked by me that is probably because i fit your DNI banner and preemptively blocked you
There's an argument to be made that humans, being animals and existing in an abusive and high-stress society, are experiencing a form of zoochosis in the form of increased rates of depression, anxiety, psychosis, self aggression, etc. Zoochosis is said to be the nonhuman animal equivalent to mental illness, and most often comes in the form of stereotypy - repetitive behaviors that serve no apparent purpose. Those held captive in zoos are at the highest risk, but domesticated animals also experience it.
As an extremely mentally ill alterhuman, I can relate. I've spent most of my life in neglect, confined to my desk in my bedroom for over a decade. As a teenager and young adult I would move from my desk to my bed, to my desk to my bed, back and forth searching for comfort and stimulation. I began to experience increased psychosis, delusion paranoia and hallucinations, living the same 3x4ft day over and over for years.
Eventually I did leave that environment, but the effects stay with me to this day - just like animals with zoochosis sometimes never recover from a lifetime of confinement.
I relate so much to the experience, in fact, that I've decided to start using the term to describe my own mental health struggles, as a traumatized psychotic alterhuman.
And now I encourage other alterhumans to do the same!
Zoochosis, as used by myself and others, refers to mental illness and maladaption of any form as caused by societal stressors, unsuitable environment, neglect - any reasoning one can think that would negatively impact their mental health or preexisting psychological condition. Zoochosis is, adjacently or similarly, the alterhuman equivalent or alternative to orthohuman mental illness.
Here is the PNG of the symbol. The flag is complimentary to the symbol, but the symbol of zoochosis itself is the focus - similarly to how symbols for psychosis, autism, and general neurodivergency are primary while their associated flags are secondary.
When used on a flag, the paw overlaying the stripes would invert the colors. The spirals on the brain and within the paw overlaying the brain represent mental illness and psychosis, and the imperfect nature of the symbol overall is meant to convey feelings of unease, discontent, etc. The flag was an afterthought - mostly meant to be dreamlike and difficult to look at. To me, a dissociative atmosphere and harsh sensory input are representative of psychosis.
Feel free to make variations on the symbol and flag as much as you see fit! If the flag doesn't speak to you or you'd prefer a cleaner look to the symbol or a different shaped paw or a different footprint entirely, feel more than free to make your own! Though as the "coiner" / re-interpreter of the term and creator of the symbol, I'd like for the paw with the spiral overlaying the brain to be the main symbol for zoochosis used in this way.
Beneath the cut you'll find a blank flag and all of the symbol pieces! Have fun!
MEDIATOR: a person who always feels obligated or put in a position to resolve or diffuse arguments, be the go between and be rational during conflict. this could be due to previous friend groups, family dynamics, moral ocd, feeling “above” conflict due to npd or other reasons, low emotional response resulting in rationality during conflict, etc
my take on a flag for delayed sleep phase disorder, also known as delayed sleep phase syndrome (DSPS). long explanation below the cut.
sea urchin icon[link]
when making this I had very little to draw off of since there's not much research done into this disorder, to the point some people doubt it should even be labelled one, but I'm very happy with it.
the colours themselves don't have specific meanings attached to them, but are meant to replicate that of the ocean and the sand found at the bottom of it. this is because dealing with the symptoms of dspd often feel like being stuck at the bottom of the ocean, idly staring up at the people above you with no way of reaching them.
I know we already have the whole "night owl" attachment, but I personally prefer sea urchins since they're slow and have no brains — a way I personally relate to when having to wake up at a normal time. but also because I liked the fact that they could be blue and yellow.
though, it's largely just because I like marine life and wanted a way to include it in the flag, haha. you could also choose to view the blues as the night sky and the murky yellows as slept through days, I don't mind.
