hi i'm a black user in the mogai community, i first would like to clarify i did NOT coin ichord nor do i know the coiner but there's something that's been bothering me

dandine and ichord are the exact same term, ichord coined BEFORE dandine and it feels really weird to me how dandine has more notes than ichord, specially since ichord was coined by a black coiner, a non-black user coins the exact same term a black user did and prn get more recognition

now, i'm not claiming redacted-coiner is racist and i understand prn is way more known in the community, i also do not know if wequot cares but it does feel a bit weird to me, it feels like black coiners barely get recognized, even when not coining black exclusive terms

we noticed this as well. we'd like to think that some of it comes from redacted-coiner having been in the community longer {at least on the specific blogs relevant} and thus being known by more people, but we highly doubt that's the only reason, and it does bother us how few longer-term community members are Black. in our view it's indicative of the casual and normalized anti-Blackness in MOGAI {and on Tumblr} over the years, and of how relatively recently the MOGAI community on Tumblr has, on a wider scale, been engaging in conversations about race and racism

we've observed that there's been a lot more Black community members in the years following vampitism's work establishing blkmogai {blog and tag}, and it makes us really happy to see!!! there's nonetheless the pain of... it shouldn't have had to take that. it shouldn't have had to take a Black coiner going "hey, this is a problem" for non-Black MOGAIers to pay attention to it. i suppose i'm just describing white privilege in different words but. i forgot how i was going to end this thought </3

we try to queueskip terms and flags by Black MOGAIers more often when we can, whether or not they're Black-related, but that doesn't solve the fundamental issue of people not valuing Black art and labour to the same extent they do white {and additionally non-Black but still racialized} art and labour. i'm glad you sent this ask, even if all it does is get more people thinking consciously about it, and i hope it does encourage non-Black MOGAIers to think about how they do and don't interact with Black MOGAIers

hello mogaiblr and adjacent communities! lately i've been thinking about mogai and semantics -- is everyone *actually* on the same page about common terminology in the community, especially when some of it never got its own coining post? are there unspoken rules about the most practical ways to use a given term?

i made a survey to hopefully start answering these questions! there are *no wrong answers*, and i greatly encourage discussing the questions with others if you're stuck!!

it will close in 2 weeks on may 4th, so get your answers in!

This is a survey to find out how participants or watchers of the MOGAI, LIOM, and QAI communities define certain terminology and categories!
