(sobbing on the floor) i'm amazing digital worthless
i just feel like i lack an amazing digital purpose
just finished watching Her (2013) dir. Spike Jonze
initial thoughts: the cinematography and shot composition is gorgeous, i wanna live in this movie set lmao. very cute computer/software interface designs also. i think there's some interesting commentary in there about how use of LLM technology alienates people from their own emotions, and how we (members of modern capitalist society with Internet access) outsource more of our own emotions than we might realize, even without LLMs specifically. i picked up on some mild to moderate incel/"male loneliness epidemic" particles while watching but i'm willing to overlook that for the sake of engaging with the general alienation theme. i also appreciated how Amy and Theo have a strong close friendship throughout the movie and they don't get together, i was worried they would fall in love at the end.
i'm waiting to figure out exactly how to articulate it but there is something that stands out to me about Theo and Isabela as foils. the way they are both humans trying and failing to keep up with something fundamentally nonhuman... ouh
anyway a friend recommended it to me two weeks ago, and while i'm glad she got me to watch it i think i walked away with an interpretation that was very different from the one she seemed to have

Ignore the part where he gets naked that's not part of it.
