Sirius always had a similar feeling when he was with Marlene. It was like jumping off a cliff into a great lake; for a moment you’re terrified and then, just as you hit the water, you feel safe and ready to do it all over again. He sucks on her bottom lip as his hands explore her body; he pauses for a bit just to look into her eyes. Merlin, she was beautiful. Sirius sometimes believed that everyone else was graced to be in his presence, that pureblood ego he hated still demanding to be acknowledged. But, with Marlene, he felt gracious to be accepted by her, a girl who welcomed very few into her life. “You’re a lucky girl, you know that? It’s not often I abandon a party.” He couldn’t control it, there was that famous arrogance.
“Black! McKinnon! At it again, I see. Don’t think you weren’t seen leaving the Great Hall.”
“Ah, fuck off, Wynch. Why don’t you go and find a girl to run off with? Oh, that’s right, you look like a troll.”
Mervyn Wynch was a particularly annoying Slytherin prefect. He’d seemed to have it out for Sirius, although he couldn’t blame him for it, he was the subject of some pretty nasty pranks, thanks to he and James, over the years.
“Better be lucky you’re not in my House, Black. I’d take 100 points from the both of you. But, be assured, your Head of House will hear about this.”
“Oh, I’m sure.” Sirius gives the tall Slytherin a sarcastic bow, and takes Marlene’s hand to lead them back to the Great Hall. “I think Wynch has a thing for you. How is it he is always the one catching us? No worries, we’ll resume later?” Sirius pulls the flask of rum out of his robes and takes a drink. “Sure you don’t want any?” He offers her the flask, hoping that he hadn’t completely ruined the evening.
Marlene laughed, pulling away from the kiss for a moment, dark eyed, to narrow her eyes at him. “Can’t you keep your mouth shut for one minute?” she said, teasing, but they were interrupted just as she leant in to kiss him again.
The shrill tones of Mervyn Wynch disrupted them and made Marlene groan as she hid her face from the Slytherin Prefect, pressing her forehead into Sirius’s neck. “No, please,” she mumbled, but it was much too late. She’d met Wynch a couple of times as kids, and he had been just as much of a goody-goody then, too. She tried to turn her laugh at Sirius’s comment into a cough, and then gave in and grinned directly at their enemy.
“You know,” she said to Sirius, in a loud whisper as they passed, “I think even the trolls might pass on him. No one likes a sneak.” The thought of their head of house hearing made Marlene grin even wider - she’d like to see Wynch dare to inform McGonagall that some of her students were making out in the corridor. She herself would rather die than suffer the embarrassment of mentioning kissing in front of the dour Scot, and she suspected Wynch was much the same. She gave him a delicate wave as they rounded the corner, then rolled her eyes massively in Sirius’s direction.
“What an idiot,” she said, succinctly, taking the flask. “Maybe it’s you he fancies - he definitely follows you around enough.” She took a sip and winced once more. She’d forgotten his terrible taste in drinks. “Oh, well.” She flashed him a significant look over the rim. “Later.”
She hadn’t dropped his hand and she linked their fingers together more comfortably, leaning back against the table and surveying the room as if it were their kingdom. The younger students were drifting away to bed, meaning that things were getting quite a lot more rowdy - it was pretty funny.
