The magic system in The Owl House and Witch Hat Atelier is so similar with the whole glyphs thing. I couldn't stop thinking about it when I started the anime. I looked it up, and apparently, the authors didn't take inspiration from each other, but it's still super interesting. What an amazing time to be a fan of both anime and cartoons :D

Once again, the way you draw the sygils affects the potency of the spell. I was going to mention the fact that they need to be neat, but Luz and lowkey, everyone in the Owl House universe just have amazing coordination, and their sygils never come out wonky lmao.
I noticed similarities in the magic systems between both shows, and now I can't stop noticing and comparing other things as well. Including these scenes of Luz and Coco figuring out how magic works and drawing their first spells :D

Who was Qifrey talking to here? Because Olruggio didn't know who she was at all when they met. Mr Nolnoa seemed very surprised to see her despite having heard about her, so I don't think he was the one to approve the request. Alaira has only heard about Qifrey having a new apprentice, so obviously, she wasn't directly told about it either. So I think it's safe to assume that the person hasn't been introduced yet and that for them to have the authority to approve or decline making someone an apprentice, they're probably in a higher rank than all the adults we've met so far. Is there some type of secret group that's going after the brimmed caps?

Genuinely, what's up with the hate for Coco? She literally doesn't have any ill intentions towards any of them, specifically not Agott, but she's treating her like crap. And to mention that she turned her mom into stone like it's her fault is super weird. I get it that witches are keeping magic a secret so it doesn't fall in the wrong hands, but that's exactly why that happened to Coco. They're acting like magic is this talent you're born with when it's literally drawing on paper, and anyone can do it. Of people were more educated about it the accident wouldn't have happened.
Yo, how powerful is Qifrey? Cus, I thought he was just going to be their teacher/mentor, but it lowkey looks like he's much more powerful than he seems. Because either there are no consequences for an individual to not report something to the knights moralis OR Qifrey is so powerful the consequences of disobeying him are worse than whatever the knights could do OR I'm reading too much into it and his friends just trust him.

This whole scene reminded me of Harry Potter with the wands and stuff, and my initial question was if pens in this universe work like wands in HP but later in the episode they referred to the pens as wands so that question is answered. Does the pen also pick the witch or wizard, tho? Maybe they'll answer it in the next episode.
