Cause he’s Deng-rano!

Like Giacomo Casanova, the writer, poet and libertine Cyrano de Bergerac (Hercule-Savinien de Cyrano de Bergerac, 1619-1655) is today more remembered for his personal life that for his literary works (especially: L’autre monde: Histoire comiqué des Estats et empires de la Lune & Histoire comiqué des Estats et empires du Soleil, 1657, 1662 [Comical History of the States and Empires of the Moon and the Sun]).

The reason of this is mainly due to the work of his compatriot playwright Edmond Rostand and his play Cyrano de Bergerac (1897), that was successful immediately and is today the work more important of Rostand. The play divided in V acts and inspired precisely in the life of Bergerac, talk about the love of Cyrano for his cousin Roxane, who is in love at the same time of the cadet Christian de Neuvilette.

Cyrano, who have a big talent for make poems and is a good duelist, have a BIG problem: his nose.

That I am proud, possessing such appendice.

‘Tis well know, a big nose is indicative

Of a soul affable, and kind, and courteous,

Leberal, brave, just like myself, and such

As you can never dare to dream yourself”

The witty way with which Cyrano defends his nose is just a playful mode for hide the insecurity that the character feels about his physical appearance. This, plus a misunderstood between Cyrano and Roxane, results in Cyrano and Christian (who is handsome like Cyrano is witty) united forces to make Roxane fall more in love. The design is successful. Even if she was in love of Christian for his appearance, Roxane love absolutely the soul of that Christian that wrote for she such precious love letters. Nevertheless, Cyrano and Christian, like soldiers, must go to the war with Spain, where…

The play was staging on 28 December 1897 and since then has touched the public with the dramatic, funny and tragic of this seemingly unrequited loves. Of course, the character most loved is Cyrano and the versions of this play have shown great effort for display all the charm and witty of him.

And Cyrano: The Musical is a proof. It was created by Koen van Dijk and Ad van Dijk in Dutch, in 1992. After a year, Broadway make the English version, directed for Eddy Habbema. The version in Korean started his planning on 2016 for the company CJ Musical.

The 23 April, for SNS Musical Cyrano announced the cast that would represent for this endearing story. The actors that performances Cyrano are Ryu Junghan, Hong Kwangho and Kim Dongwan.

This last, singer and actor, Shinhwa’s member, Dongwan, a witty guy for a witty poet, had announced previously his participation in the musical through his personal account of Facebook (Dongwan Kim).

The musical started the 7th July 2017 and his last performance will be the 10th October 2017 in the LG Arts Center. Thanks to this musical, Shinhwa Changjo have been able to see Dongwan (lovingly nicknamed Deng-rado) in various interviews in Vlive (Naver)

Anyway, the truth is that not matter the number of versions of this play of the works inspired in the life of Bergerac, we only can see him a little of his real him in his novels and plays. But I’m sure that he would be pride of be portrayed by this talented and witty guy.

Since 1977, around may 18, is celebrated the International Museum Day. The day is for remember the cultural and social importance of this institution. The activities are organized for the International Council of Museums (ICOM) and actually about 120 countries participate in the celebration. The job of the museum is the conservation of artistics, cultural, historical or scientific objects that are important for the history of manking. Plus, the museum have the task of promotion this preserved works through exhibitions permanent or temporary with the help of anothers museums. Is important emphasize that this objects are valuable fragments of the human identity in the different areas of knowledge. The museums have too a remarkable relationship with the past that created the present that we know. Our Baby Bird’s impressive talent that has been improving with the help of his Shinhwa members’ continuous training. Daebak!

Cause he’s not this but that!

La trahison des images (The Threachery of Images or The Treason of Images) is a painting by the Belgian surrealist painter René Magritte, created around 1928-1929. The description of the work is very “simple”: it can be seen the image of a pipe with the inscription “ceci n’est pas une pipe” (“this is not a pipe”).

The explanation of this contradiction is given by the same Magritte:

“The famous pipe. How people reproached me for it! And yet, could you stuff my pipe? No, it’s just a representation, is it not? So if I had written on my picture ‘This is a pipe’. I’d have been lying.” (From: Wikipedia)

Then the representation can’t be taken for the real thing. The painting and the reality are two things very different. This idea is a manifest against realism of XIX century. And this is not all. The initiation of the thesis can be traceable in the Allegory of the Cave by Plato and his theory of Forms or Ideas that holds the reality just can be represent by forms (ideas). It is the reason which Plato expelled the poets of his ideal republic. But past is not the only way that this can be found. The phrase of the philosopher and mathematician Alfred Korzybski (“The map is not the territory”) and the theory of simulation and hyperreality by French philosopher Jean Baudrillard are another example, in different areas of knowledge, of this position where A is not A, not matter how similar they are.

Fortunately, Jun Jin “is” a celebrity, a beautiful person and not only, he’s too the smile and dream of a lot of people around the world.

'' Sechskies selected as the best first generation group '' what do you think about it? I am quite pissed off actually

Honestly, I didn’t know about this LOLLL until you told me (I don’t follow allkpoop you see >.>) It says it’s chosen through a poll voted by netizens (which I didn’t even know..), so it depends on the demographics. Like say if Sechskiesfanswere super hardcore on the voting while not a lot of our fandom knew about it then the results are obvious. Either that or it’s cuz Sechskies just reunited and came back again so definitely a lot of attention would be on them. Since it’s a poll solely based on netizen voting and not conducted on a fair sample size of the general public, or even by industry professionals, I don’t really care much about it to be honest hahaha ><

Well, let’s think about this. SHINHWA has mostly older fans, since they’re off and on in their comeback schedule. I’d imagine they’d have some new fans occasionally but, BTS is much more popular right now. Plus they’re ageing, and appearances matter in this industry and most kpop fans these days are teens or young adults.

g.o.d is has aged too, kind of, but they’re in the same boat as SHINHWA. Less intl fans I’d bet as well, their music style hasn’t really kept up with the times. Put it this way, I have a very hard time finding other g.o.d fans.

SES did come back, but I felt like they were swept way under the rug. Might be wrong, but there is a decent bit of sexism concerning female groups. Especially since they’re moms. I can’t imagine that they gained many new fans.

H.O.T… Well. Especially with Heejun’s recent marriage there’s some scandal. I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s not many of us that are new fans. And they’ve aged… A lot. Some would say badly, but. I’ll always love my boys.

Sechkies have a more upbeat style I think than the others, and have really played up fan service. They also signed with YG, So I imagine they got a lot of fans that way. They also have aged the best besides SES in my opinion, the curse of the Vampire looks good on them. Given that Seunghyun and Jiwon still look disgustingly youthful, I’m not surprised that they have a decent amount of new fans.

Given that allkpop is by netizens, and that it’s mostly international fans that use it, I can easily see Sechkies being voted to the top. Do I agree with it? No, despite my love for them.

I want to put a disclaimer that I am not trying to diss any of the aforementioned groups. I’m not sure if other groups were on the polls, but I know these are more or less in the media currently. I don’t really pay much attention to SHINHWA but I am favorably biased to all the others, so that may conflict with how I see things.

I understand that you may not know much about Shinhwa, so I’m going to fill you in on that.

If your definition of “older fans” is 30s, 40s, then no, Shinhwa’s fans are mostly in their 20s. They do comeback almost once every year to accommodate to our work/school lives, in the years when they don’t, each of them still has their solo activities. Yes, we do have new fans every now and then. I’m not sure why you mentioned BTS here but let’s move on. “Plus they’re ageing, and appearances matter in this industry”, that I have to disagree with. Shinhwa’s visuals are definitely up there, and we are talking about the whole group. Call me biased but they’ve aged better than most groups, literally like fine wine. A picture is worth a thousand words:

On music, Shinhwa’s always coming back with jams and trying out new genres, new styles for every comeback. Unlike most 1st gen groups, they don’t milk nostalgia. And they definitely did not “reunite” like those groups, they’ve been in the game for 19 years, coming 20 years soon and more to come. To keep up in the industry as an idol group for that long of a time is truly a feat. So, no, they aren’t on the same boat as any of the groups you mentioned.

I can’t say for the other groups because I’m not a fan of theirs. But one thing I would like to mention is, a lot of fans don’t stan a group based on their looks, sure some might, but it isn’t looks that make a fan stay in a fandom, it’s their group dynamics/interaction, it’s their music, it’s their characters that make a fan choose to stay.

And FYI, it was a poll by DCInside, a Korean community site, not Allkpop (I mentioned Allkpop cuz they reported the article). So the voters would be Knetizens, not international fans. I still stand by what I answered. It wouldn’t be accurate to pick the best first generation group through an online poll voted by netizens, as it would be a popularity contest instead.

And lastly, it’s Sunghoon, Kang Sunghoon, not Seunghyun.
