One of the most underrated parts of TGR: Laila randomly walking into Jeremy’s room at the Wilshire house and just says “I rode a motorcycle here.” No “hi,” no “nice to see you” nope. I rode a fucking motorcycle. Be grateful. And you know what? I respect that.

Remember during the winter banquet when Riko told Neil that he had bought off a doctor at Easthaven and Neil was so consumed with anger he punched Riko in the mouth, then in the eye, then got knocked into a table and brought Riko to the floor where he KEPT THROWING PUNCHES, the held on “as hard as he could” to Riko once people started pulling them away from each other and when they were finally separated, STILL fought against the crowd to try and go at him again, AND THEN, after Wymack literally hauled Neil off his feet, Neil was trembling so hard he thought the room was shaking and didn’t take his eyes off Riko until they were seated outside the court on opposite sides of the room?

And this was before andreil even kissed btw.

!!! I appreciate this observation. Because let’s think about it. Obviously, by this point Andrew is becoming someone important to Neil, although he doesn’t quite realize it yet. But Neil’s reaction is not just telling of how strongly Neil is feeling about Andrew, but also telling of how strongly Neil is feeling for people other than himself. From the start of the foxhole court, we are shown Neil has little empathy for other people and doesn’t seem to care much about what happens to them so long as it doesn’t affect him. One moment this is apparent is in book one when he hopes Allison is able to essentially “get over” Seth’s death and pull herself together for the game. And we can’t forget how Neil is supposedly good at instigating fights, but not actually fighting them. He also says he is trying to portray Neil as somewhat of a pushover who doesn’t cave to violence. So this scene where he breaks that persona and reacts with so much violence he has to be physically hauled across the stadium is really a show of just how much Neil has come to care about his teammates. Because I think he would have reacted this way if it had been any of the other foxes in that position. Neil had no reason to go at Riko with such intensity, there was no gain and in fact likely he would (and did) suffer because of it. He did it anyway.

Neil being a demisexual and how obvious it is by how he uses simple terms when meeting people like just saying their hair and eye color. He doesn't even bother describing people he doesn't find important. Meanwhile the difference between meeting Andrew for the first time vs him having fallen in love with him has Neil waxing poetry about Andrew and it's so funny. Miser i don't swing was down bad by the second book.

First time meeting Andrew: "Andrew Minyard didn't look like much in person, blonde and five feet even."

After falling in love with Andrew: "Andrew looked as he always had, and Neil knew his face as well as he knew every iteration of his own. Despite that, something seemed different. Maybe it was the sunlight streaming through the window, making Andrew’s pale hair shine brighter and his hazel eyes seem almost gold. Whatever it was, it was disorienting. A wordless question buzzed under Neil’s skin, leaving him restless and out-of-sorts."
