I hate when people “defend” black female characters by saying shit like ‘she’s more than just a love interest!’ Or ‘she’s too good for him!’ This is just blatant misogynoir disguised as ‘activism’ because most of the time ya’ll say this just to push her away so you can pair her boyfriend/love interest with someone else who isn’t black.

watching the 1st lego movie then linking it to the spiderverse movies and seeing how they write women so similarly (derogatory) is an eye opening experience, like wow. they genuinely can't write women at all without turning them into merely a narrative tool that simultaneously fulfills their nerd fantasies, like you can tell that these female characters are just there to form a romantic relationship with the male lead and if they’re not then they’re most likely going to be a gag character at best.
