some people think writers are so eloquent and good with words, but the reality is that we can sit there with our fingers on the keyboard going, “what’s the word for non-sunlight lighting? Like, fake lighting?” and for ten minutes, all our brain will supply is “unofficial”, and we know that’s not the right word, but it’s the only word we can come up with…until finally it’s like our face got smashed into a brick wall and we remember the word we want is “artificial”.

so andrea gibson died early this morning, and man.... this one really hurts. to think they will never write something new.

andrea was an amazing poet - and still is an amazing poet, since their words will continue to touch & save people long after they've gone. I met them after one of their shows to have them sign a poster. my friend before me in line gave this very long heartfelt speech about what andrea's poems meant to her. I couldn't think of anything to say when it was my turn, so I said (apologetically), "I don't have anything profound to say, I just love you."

I know I couldn't handle having kids but if I was left in charge of some, I'd take them to the park to feed ducks. Not bread though, you shouldn't feed that to ducks. We're feeding them lettuce. Let the ducks going apeshit over lettuce show the kids that lettuce is actually awesome. When they go home, their parents are baffled by the fact that the kids are now willingly eating salad. In the most horribly animalistic fucked up way possible.

I find it interesting how many people are currently walking through their lives having no clue that they inspired one of my poems. There is currently a grown woman who from miles and miles away, inspired some queer, nonbinary teen to write a fantastic poem, all because she made a tumblr post several years ago. There is currently a young man in the room next to me who from a few feet away has inspired a closeted teen to write a hateful poem, all because he had a few too many personal conversations in my vicinity.
