i think it's beautiful that throughout the walk ray chose love and compassion for his fellow walkers.

he had love inside of him the whole time. he didn't have to try and save curley, he didn't have to give olson any rations, he didn't have to try and talk to barkovitch. he could have just walked. the body and mind were willing. the emotions that stebbins said would get him in the end? they did, of course. not because he was too fragile, but because the love inside of him was so strong he was willing to give pete a chance to share it with everyone
