His executioner suit is used as a reference. There are some thoughts about his father, Gregorio. Due to the Jedi Order system, they cannot be related. But they could share a common culture; for example, as with Barriss Offee and Luminara Unduli. Gregorio and Gyro could also be healers. Considering that Jedi aren't accustomed to forming attachments, Gregorio could very well have been raising his Padawan to cast aside sentimentality and renounce any attachments.

And I think Gyro wasn't comfortable with the Jedi Order at the time of the prequels—they were peacekeepers, but also soldiers, carrying out the orders of the Senate. Perhaps he left the Order before Order 66.(Probably, but I haven't figured out when the local SBR is happening yet. Presumably after the order??? )

I was struggling to figure what was bothering me about Deltarune so much because I just couldn't get into it nearly as much as Undertale and then I realized....

The Spare/Kill mechanic sucks. Like. A lot.

Technically it's a peaceful vs violent mechanic but that's too many letters.

To start, the requirement that you have to recruit a certain number of a darkner species to essentially "spare" them makes every darkner feel even more flat (put a pin in that for later). While I'm not trying to act like each monster species in Undertale was incredibly fleshed out and unique, they're still treated as individual people (f.e, flowey calling you out if you kill them in the ruins) instead of what Deltarune treats Darkners as, which is a streamer reaction device.

Pulling out the pin I just asked you to put in (sorry I thought that would stay there for longer) While Monsters in Undertale definitely have their comedic moments, majority of the Darkners feel like they exist to try and make a new viral meme to "feed the fandom" rather than characters that we should care about. Despite main villians having an entire Undertale's length of time to be fleshed out, they're memes with motivations shoved in at the end. In a game that wants to emphasize the darkner's humanity, it actively strips it from them by not letting any of them go three lines without inserting a quirky internet meme.

Ironically, the boss that everyone cares about the least, King, is one of if not the only main villain with an interesting motivation. Queen wants to: Make lightners happy. Tenna wants to: Make lightners happy. The Titan has no motivation at all, and Flowery wants to... make lightners happy. Huh. The game starts with a villain that despises lightners and does not abide by their wants and needs, and feels like he exists as a subversion of the other bosses, except he's the one who comes first and slowly gets dumbed down as well.

The Spare/Kill mechanic in Deltarune actually has a really interesting "illusion of choice" idea that fits with the game's idea of "your choices don't matter" and supports the idea that the weird route is the only way to divert from a choice-less world, but because of how flat every single character feels, that does not hit nearly as hard because it feels impossible to truly care about the outcome of these characters. Deltarune's character writing has always felt a bit iffy to me (Ralsei) but the Darkners especially just kinda... suck.

I definitely explained this poorly, my apologies, but TL:DR Deltarune is to Undertale what Arcane season 2 is to season 1. Take that as you will.
