So I may or may not be making a Deltarune Verse for Salem, along with a Darkner design (that'll come later), but I have some ideas that I can share rn!

Ramblings below the cut:

~ In this verse, Salem is a Darkner that exists in his own dark world on the second floor of the town library. His purpose is an archive keeper: he protects the records of all the dark worlds that have appeared over the years, no matter how brief their existences were. Every time a fountain is closed, a book detailing that world and its events appears on the shelf. How else would they know the light world exists and the prophecy without some sort of way to refer back to it? Someone's gotta keep track of that history.

~ Salem is specifically an object Darkner. He's a child's skunk plushie that was left behind in the library by accident, and became the adopted "mascot" of the library

~ The dark world is structured like a labyrinth; the walls consist of bookshelves that twist and wind into various alcoves to confuse and mislead enemies who would seek to ruin the archives. Enemies are themed around moths, mice, beetles, and even various scribbles that Lightners would doodle in the book margins.

~ His signature weapon is a large quill pen that he wields like a sword. The feather blade cuts cleanly through pests, and the quill tip can be used to splash ink drop projectiles or write words of encouragement into the air for healing

~ Salem resides at the heart of the labyrinth, known as the Inner Sanctum. It's where he makes his home amongst the books (considering making it like a blanket fort or something; a little cozy nook just for him with pillows and a little stove for tea & cocoa) and the path that leads deeper towards the fountain. Not entirely sure what the main boss would be, but thinking about making Salem a secret boss? Still toying with that idea
