“You’re not supposed to be back here.”
-She was hesitant, but he hoped the friendly, encouraging look on his face was enough to assure her he wasn’t going to laugh and point at her, or condemn her, whatever she could do. So she should go on-
Aight. -He took a few steps back, giving her the asked for space, and waited….and he watched her pop the popcorn, in her hand-
Wow, lass, tha’s ah feat! -He said with a grin, stepping forward. Without even asking, he took a few pieces of the popcorn and tossed it into his mouth-
Heat, o’ wot dae ye project? -He was looking at her hand as he said it- Tha’s nifty, really. Wow.
[Right, nothing to worry about here, Gabi. If there were anything, you know how to take care of troublesome people. ...Not leprechauns, but hey. That’s what the internet is for. Do you even know what he is yet? I don’t remember this has been in my drafts for yonks man]
I mean, I can use it for more than just Popcorn- [have to make that clear, in case he thought she could just make popcorn. ...Actually, she might prefer that. But I digress.]
In a way... I send off waves of radiation. Like, microwave and otherwise. But I usually try to keep it to low things, ‘cause otherwise I could...kill everyone in a ten mile radius. Probably. Or just everyone. [everyone but the cockroaches]
“But my dear,” He said, still in the same tone, a little bit of a lecturing father added to it. “You can hide. There is nothing on the outside the reveals what you can do.” His eyes go up to her hair, her wig, he knows, but that is normal enough. “If they knew what you were, do you think they would let you lie?”
He stopped, before continuing. “You have your burdens, your guilt, your own secrets, yes. Don’t you owe it to yourself, and to those lost, to grow stronger? To take your place as yourself, something not damaging, not destructive, but beautiful, and empowering?”
“That’s only if they find o-- ...out.....” Well hold on, his words-- or at least his wording-- made her thing of another part of herself. Her sexuality, right? She’d never been one to hide that about herself, even if a glance in her direction one could say that she was “straight passing”, and her appearance, she didn’t “look jewish” (but what does that even mean? just thinking about things people have said when they found out more about her made her angry), but those were both big parts of her. She wouldn’t hide them. So that got her to thinking: why is my mutation any different?
“Yeah...yeah, that doesn’t sound too bad to me.”

like for a starter?????
A family. Wasn’t that the appeal? Knowing you’re not alone, knowing you had something with someone else that no one in the world could understand except the cursed, rare, few? Being at the start of something, so big, so raw and powerful, and she knew that. He had her there.
But ay, there’s the rub.
“They wouldn’t hesitate to kill you, would they?” His voice was level, calm, and cold.
And it’s a rough rub, like the opposite direction with some velvet or a cat’s tongue, or the itchy side of Velcro.
“I’m still alive, though...I mean, no one can really pin any deaths on me, but both my parents died of cancer and there’s no history of it in my family, and I’ve made people sick-- it’s not hard to connect the dots, but most humans have been super okay to me.”
Hey- Erik, did you hear about the TV repairman who got married?
Hmm? No, I have not.
-He doesn’t say anything to that, but just smiles a bit. She means well, at least-
[She really does, she’s just as gay as he is but like- single. Where is her Charles Xavier? Well her Charlize Xavier.]
That’s awesome though, really. You’ve got a date picked out? Need a band? I know a guy. [the guy is her, but all she plays is bass guitar BUT she can DJ probably like, she figures, how hard could it be? Right? Right.]
Hey- Erik, did you hear about the TV repairman who got married?
Hmm? No, I have not.
Everything about it will be. Weird. Difficult. Heartbreaking. And yet….-A deep breath, and he looks away, finger playing with the ring- I love him.
[...alright, that gets a little smile.]
Aw, gay.
Hey- Erik, did you hear about the TV repairman who got married?
Hmm? No, I have not.
Yes. -He sees her hesitation—her judgement, yet he is used to it. He doesn’t care- Professor Xavier. Charles.
And that’s not gonna be weird or anything?
That made him raise an eyebrow.
He had her practically, if she was divulging her biggest worry. Her biggest weakness.
Erik smiled, and there was a softness to to it.
“I met a young man once who had the same problem. He was in prison, and he put himself in solitary to protect others. He couldn’t control it. I helped him.” He paused. “I had the help of a friend to do it. It takes friends. A team. We can offer you that. We can help. It’s just your decision that if you want that help or not.”
Gabi had never been one to hide what she was thinking, especially not if it was to someone she could finally actually talk to.
Which was really something.
And really something awesome.
“I do-” She almost thought she answered that too quickly, but it was true. “I do want help, and like...” ugh. “And like, friends. I want all that...”
The only bit she was caught up on was the whole death to humans all power to mutants thing, which didn’t really sit well with her. “I wouldn’t have to kill anyone, would I?”
Hey- Erik, did you hear about the TV repairman who got married?
Hmm? No, I have not.
Yes. I’m engaged. -He holds his hand up to show off his ring, but that’s all he says about it-
So is it to, uh, [She lowers her voice, because it’s probably like..their enemy, you know? Who she’s still never met, what is up with that?] Y’know....... The professor?

Hey- Erik, did you hear about the TV repairman who got married?

That must not translate well. Is it supposed to be funny? In English? -Completely deadpan-
[…face falls] Reception. Like a wedding reception? Or like a TV signal, like reception?
Is this a joke because I’m engaged?
You're engaged? Hey! Man, I thought we were a brotherhood and you don't tell me when you get engaged?! The fuck dude!

[...face falls] Reception. Like a wedding reception? Or like a TV signal, like reception?
Hey- Erik, did you hear about the TV repairman who got married?

Well, apparently, the reception was great.
-He is just….going to stare-
[waiting for it]
[stupid li'l smile on her face]
...Get it? Reception?
The first step was done. He had interested her. Intrigued her to the point to where she wanted to know more. Erik, though, didn’t want to be a false shepherd. He wanted those he recruited to his side to know just what they were getting in to.
She still had a lot of thinking to do. A lot of acceptance, in honesty.
Let her walk amongst the humans once more. See how they treated her. Then she could come seek the brotherhood of fellow mutants.
Erik held his hand out, and the movement in his pocket soon produced a sleek metallic case. Funny, that mutants carried business cards. But he opened it, and handed one to her.
"Think about it. And if you decide you want to know more, come here."
It was just an address.
With his powers, he clicked the case closed.
"You wouldn’t have to hide with us, Gabi. You wouldn’t have to live alone. We could take care of you. We take care of our own."
She took the business card from the other, looking it over- front and back. It was just an address, nothing more.
Sure, so that was how he got them to his side...that air of mystery or some such bullshit. She hated herself that it was working so well. Still...a place with others like her, it wasn't unappealing at all. What had humans really done for her, if she thought about it? Died, usually...but mutants weren't immune to things, either. Least not most, she theorized.
"Just.." Just out with it, girl. Tell him what you think.
"I'm worried that if I go with you, started living with people again, well. I might ruin your whole thing by...killing everyone. I don't have the best handle on how to control this shit yet."
