Sorry to reblog your thoughts, but they ´re very similar to mine. I ´ve finished the book yesterday and I have mixed feelings. Probably because I had read tons of fanfic where Haymitch gets his own kind of HEA, loves again (Effie, Johanna,…) and now this… like, yeah, with both prequels, I knew they ´d end up sadly and on a pesimistic note, I didn ´t have any expectations, but I guess I didn ´t think some of fanon ideas would shatter like a glass… do you think SC reads fanfiction and she decided to spite us with SOTR?

Bernard Hill was a legend. He infused Theoden with so much warmth and strength. His kindness to Merry, his love for Eowyn, his grief for his son, his guilt over his failures of king, yet his aura of power, his commanding presence, and his undeniable might as a warrior, made Theoden a compelling and beautiful character.
