Brows furrow as icy blues narrow in succession, lips pursing into a fine line across his face. He didn’t have time for jokes or for passive personal jests – not when real danger loomed ever so near or at least was a constant worry in the back of the captain’s mind and his job required much more than softness. Trial and error had become his teacher over the years and with it came the irreversible stubborn and blunt attitude, along with impatience for anything daring to take up that little time.

It had just been his luck that he’d been paired up with someone talkative and just as intrusive as an overly watchful neighbor – Her actions just as loud and as bold as her hair color.

A smirk came across her face as he answered her. God only knew how much she loved guys with the attitude. Her superiority complex, however, would not let this slide down easily. Her curiosity is too big and she is willing to do anything to see what hides behind this big man.
