one is singing a softer note (adele) and one is singing a louder note (taylor). i noticed something was off instantly cause adele isn’t in a high vocal range. i know this despite note being a manical fan who misogynisticly tears down other female artists to prop her up. anyway… adele is a baritone. taylor is more of a soprana. ergo, adele by her own vocal registar cannot physically hit a higher note without damaging her vocal chords. so i looked up an adele performance. here it is:
you’ll note that adele also has done that same technique when singing a loud note (marked by f on a music sheet, y’all) (the absent of the arch is because taylor’s is more upbeat versus adele’s slow song) (also on the side you can see her doing the SAME THING taylor does because she’s singing LOUDER in those caps versus her singing softly)
anyway not to get technical but adele never hits a “higher” note. she hits lower notes naturally because her voice is lower than taylor’s. taylor is higher ranger, adele is in a lower ranger. (deeper voices usually sound nicer with adele’s type of music anyway whereas higher ranges are more commonly required in pop music - biggest indicator that you’re comparing apples to oranges)
i’m seeing wannabe vocal teachers commenting on how taylor “gives too much hitting high notes” but there’s no such thing. it’s something made up to seem like you know what you’re talking about.
also usually when people stand still when they sing it’s because they have difficultly holding notes while moving. (this isn’t shade @ adele before you come at me: it’s just stating that some singers have difficulty moving while singing and it in no way means they aren’t a good artist).
wannabe vocal teachers also point out that adele is “skilled enough” to anchor herself to hit the note - bullshit. the arch is purely aesthetic. while adele’s music is lowkey and doesn’t require much moving, taylor’s a different beast.
it’s like when you go to a rock concert and the vocalist isn’t headbanging or going off. a critical part of the aesthetic is missing. adele’s music doesn’t lend itself to the arch taylor does here - when singing the “yeah” part of i knew you were trouble (which is supposed to be LOUD not HIGH which is why her mouth is formed like that)
it’s also aesthetic. it’s comparing adele doing what is probably a lowkey acoustic song to taylor swift doing a pure pop song. in other words: literal apples to oranges. here’s a video of her doing the same song acoustic which, as you’ll note, doesn’t include the arch:
you’ll also notice the key part of the “yeah” part isn’t that it’s HIGH - it’s that it’s LOUD. so she’s opening up her mouth to really project the “YEAH” cause it’s a LOUD sound - not a high sound. the note that comes immediately after is higher but softer. so not only are you making false comparisons, you’re also claiming it’s because it’s a high note. it’s not. it’s a LOUD note.
also the performance cap of adele is like 5 years old and taylor’s is only 3 years old. so you’re also sliding in a different amount of vocal experience as well. which overall, this entire comparison is garbage
